He got fired. What I mean is that the BOT wanted him to retire. He didn’t want to retire so he was forced out. They came up with that sweet deal paid by UK for Mitch to walk away. After the public along with the governor got involved, that deal was rescinded by UK. In the end he got paid anyway. Not by UK, but by Joe Craft and his conglomerate of boosters.
Mitch did a lot of good, but he lost a lost of respect in his last few years.

He absolutely got fired. The pr spin was this retirement. No one gets paid for retirement like this. That's why the academic no show position had to be paid for by Athletics.

The irony was just yesterday morning I corrected people that claimed he now wasn't going to get paid. Just a few hours later, it came out.

He was always getting paid. For or reasons they shifted it to "private" funds, which is just champions blue llc. Of course that is now the athletics department.

The whole thing stinks and is full of self dealing from many angles. Its a disaster and everyone involved in letting this happen should be fired.

Who cares?

Not coming from state coffers or NIL/athletic funds.

Dude put in 24 years. Made the athletic department a lot of money.

There’s Deans and other bureaucratic bloat positions who don’t do **** that will retire and make off with that much.

I don’t think someone caring about this makes them wrong or in anyway implies anything negative about them, personally

I didn’t say it did.

We paid a kid 800,000 for 3 games and to throw money around on social media…

The AD who put in work for 24 years can’t get a little retirement package?!

The article even says that position is still going to be filled which means that money is still going to get spent on someone!

It was essentially a consulting position which the Uni and athletic dept both spend for regardless.

“A little retirement package”. 🤣

The dude was paid handsomely for 24 years. Just freaking retire.

We just hired a dude from a major university and from a major conference. If we need MB to hold his hand then we hired the wrong guy.

There’s absolutely no need for this position. What is wrong with some of you?

It’s a retirement package that some can very reasonably argue is more than most receive

There is no need for a lot of positions.

The article even says that it’s still going to be filled.

So all that bellyaching from the Gov and fans has lead to two checks getting cut. One to MB and one to whoever fills the roll.

I’m not arguing it was a good idea or necessary. I’m merely saying the reaction was as if big institutions, public or private, have never done such a thing.

It’s actually very common.

For the Gov to howl is ridiculous considering all the wasteful spending the state house does.

Fans act like they’ve never seen someone retire/get fired and not hang around and get paid in some made up special position.

It’s a retirement package that some can very reasonably argue is more than most receive

Most don’t work in major D1 collegiate athletics and haul in what that hauls in.

Love it or hate it that JMI deal was worth half a billion! Pretty big haul.

There are 45-50ish P4 ADs. Maybe about half of em oversee sustainable mega money making machines. MB was one of those.

I would bet most with any kind of tenure and resume similar to MB will get a nice retirement. Some will probably even hang around the program in some capacity.

It’s the same nonsense the C-suite class and the wannabe’s spout.

“We could never attract a great leadership unless we offer them so much and then pay them even more when they perform poorly”

As Carlin said, it’s a big club and you ain’t in it.

Anyone thinking an employee who works for an PUBLIC UNIVERSITY should be getting this kind of golden parachute is just looking for a pair of boots to lick.

The dollars used to pay Mitch are absolutely coming out of the NIL coffers. The money did not just materialize from no where.

Mitch probably has dirt on Eli. That’s the only way this makes sense.

What a corrupt school. I’m an alum and I’m ashamed. They’ll never receive a single dime from me and I’ll do everything in my power to steer my children to other schools should they choose to continue their education after high school.

Justification: Others have done it and the gov waste money. Okey doke.

As far as getting a “nice retirement”. He’s made millions over the years. Why are we calling a made up no value position a nice retirement?

very fair point, and I would probably agree with you. I find this post of yours much better than “who cares?”

This is why I will always and forever have the pic I do on my profile.

The athletic department at UK is not a public entity. Has not been for years. Acting like coaching contracts and AD contracts should be scaled to a public university is simply based upon very old outdated information.
