I'm stating it into a microphone. No racism here, never has been never will be.
If
Fair enough. The microphone defense holds water. I'll allow it.
Need a new microphone... Again thank you all for pointing that out. I grew up in a tenement building in Newark. And growing up I had more black friends than white friends.... No racism here boys, never was and never will. Again my apologies and thank you for pointing that out.

Is there anything you don’t trash. Who cares what ignited the team, what matters was the fire was lit and we got a road win.
What a clown you are. Does Duke need a freshman to get teed up to ignite their team, or Kansas, or Gonzaga. The fire in the belly should come from the coach and his upper class leadership.

Maybe so but you can't tell an official that his call was "bulls**t.
Is that so! The call was ********. That the ref called a technical was ********. All these officials these days have rabbit ears. Bulletin to Refs: you're not Gods. The players aren't robots. They have emotions & should be able to play with them unless they go over the top.
What did Nebby get about 30 free throws! Way to potentially change the outcome of a game Ref. Get over yourself.

Yeah that's so!!!!! :) :) :)

Again, the ref let him say a couple of things to him and only gave him the "T" when he cursed. If you curse when talking to an official it's going to be a "T". That was the right call.
On the other hand the foul call was bad and the call at the end was even worse. But you have to have some composure.

Coach K doesn't need a substitute freshman guard lighting the fire underneath his team, he and his captains do that

There have been games where Coach K has sat his entire starting line-up for walk-ons and freshman before he was recruiting one and dones so please stop.

Don't you love when a ref under the basket calls a foul from thirty feet away when the ref 10 feet from the play sees that there was no foul? And Geo was between the shooter and the ref who called the foul so he could not see if there was contact. Did he anticipate the foul? Did he call it because the shot was so awful, a line drive with no chance to go in?
Do these guys get graded on their performance?
Who reviews the officials?
Does the Big Ten ever refuse the use of incompetent officials?

I believe all conferences have evaluators of officials. The way they grade out can determine what their game assignments will be. What I don't know is if they grade each individual or the entire crew. Do they have set crews (like football) for the entire season?

And the refs know they are being evaluated. So it begs the question, are the bad calls and outcomes what the conference wants to see in certain situations (wink wink) ?

That call was worse than the Iowa call sending Harper to the line to win, which until yesterday was the worst end game call I ever remember seeing.

The T did work. Miller got pulled and we played better without him. I find the argument that giving the other team free fouls shots “lights a fire” to be absurd. Does anyone who actually played the game believe that having a teammate cost you shots motivated them?

Well, the team played much much better and more fired up after that. Was it causal or coincidental is up for message board debate.

We were down 6 when the T happened, having been outscored 8-7 over the prior 5 minutes and 20-17 through the first 14 minutes of the half. After the technical was shot, we were down 8.

From that point forward until the final whistle, we outscored them 18-8.

Was it caused by the T? No idea - but we played with much more of an edge after that point.

You must not have seen the end of the MSU / NW where the refs made 3 bad calls against NW in the last few seconds. That was even worse

True. Did not see that. As I said in another post, you have to wonder if the refs, who get evaluated, make calls exactly as the conferences want to get ‘better’ evaluations.

I’m generally not a conspiracy guy but does make you wonder

absent proof however I will defer to the Jordan rules theory (or Lebron) - ie that the more established/ famous/ “blue chip” teams/ players/ coaches just get the benefit of the doubt and the Northwesterns and Rutgers of the world just get shafted more often out of subconscious lack of respect

Is it subconscious bias to favor the home team ? No Isn’t subconscious bias. It’s the ‘art’ of referreeing. What we see as bad calls, the often league doesn’t.

Often the announcers whitewash/justify the ******** as if it’s a radio broadcast and viewers didnt see the truth. I know Bilas is a Duke guy but that’s irrelevant to this example.

Yesterday had the Duke game on and a Louisville kid got called for a foul on a Duke player’s shot. Tv replay showed no contact at all. Ok, not a good call. It happens. But Bilas said, “you can see xxxx player hit the shooter’s hand. “. Wtf ? We talk about cults, and the announcers are often just as wrapped up in the lie.

Who knows, but I’ll bet Ron was fired up when he heard Miller yell ********, because Ron was on the receiving end of at least two BS calls.

Later when Geo and Ron had that runout where Geo fed Ron with a cross-court assist with both on the move and Ron sinking that trey, I thought, wow, what a difference!

yes I think the home team getting the balance of the calls can be subconscious bias. absolutely

Refs are humans. No one likes thousands of people booing them. Conversely it’s a positive feeling to have your action (eg a foul call) result in a positive reaction from other humans. Thus the tendency for refs to sometimes make calls that favor the home team. I am not saying anything groundbreaking here btw.

you know there IS a reason why coaches ride the refs all game. THAT is the reason. You want the refs to fear (even subconsciously) making the wrong call against your team.

Not just fear making the wrong call, but just having an aversion to making any call that hurts the home team.... people don't like being yelled at or booed, and they'll subconsciously try to avoid it if possible.

I remember seeing a study about football, where officials were less likely to call PI against a team if they were standing on the offending team's sideline between the yard lines the coach can roam, but were more likely to call it on the opposite sideline or closer to either endzone.

And you're a full schollie D1 P5 player..? These players need to learn in practice about a hostile crowds and the best way to beat them is to beat their team. And then run into the tunnel and go enjoy the victory on the road with your teammates. Poor coaching and it shows poor character on the players part and is a black eye for the University. I guarantee you'll never see that happen on GS's team
Curious how you learn about hostile crowds in practice? I should probably reach out to Coach K.

If you know Coach K please do and share his winning insights with Pike. Pump in tons of noise and hostile insults in practice like the football team does, and have them be taught about it by their coaches or a sports psychologist on how to handle it...or preferably both....are you sure you have a Rutgers degree...pretty easy to figure out.

********! That was MINOR. The refs need to get tin ears. Notice on that horrible last call no one said boo including Baker nor Pikel. They knew that they would get T'd up again & that Nebby would have had a very good chance to win with 40 foul shots & the ball. Hellova way to run a railroad. You've hit a sore spot.

the guy who plays for the Bucks NBA. Sorry I was at Cavs game the other night and that dude got every call even though he travels every time he touches it. LOL
Do they still call travelling in the NBA ? I thought they changed that rule back when Michael Jordan was playing.
It's one of the many reasons that I pretty much have stopped watching NBA games.

I highly doubt lose sleep over being booed, and don’t subconsciously favor the home team. They flat out do, and know it. They know foul totals and if they forget they will see it on multiple scoreboards. Was it 10-2 in team fouls late in the first half ? Subconscious? If we know, they know

Not gonna argue. What i am saying is long established.

I’ll refer you to the RUchoppins post about the PI study in football. It speaks perfectly to what I am saying.

I point out facts...and I am delighted they pulled it off last night but the long term prognosis with Pike is what greatly concerns me
You are not balanced in any way shape or form. Thus my comment about you being a troll.

Plus you reek of an agenda. Yes you will respond two or three times and just tell me that you are a die-hard fan blah blah blah blah blah.... but your posts are out there for everyone to read. You are not a fan.

You can call yourself whatever you want. But a supporter of the team/program you are not.

You have a Personal Agenda. This is crystal clear.

Yeah, my personal agenda is for RU to have the very best coach possible....and that's obviously not Pike.
