Impressive streak but that is where it ends.... You gotta be able to win several big games against the big boys for me to think that this team is serious.
They can only play the teams in their conference and the non conference teams who agreed to play them which wasn't many. Most teams don't wanna risk non conference losses against a team that won 25 games last season in this p---y day and age and they're def not gonna travel. they'd maybe only agree to play them if they were home. That's how it works

Let the debate get in

UMASS 87
Miami OH 83

A quarterfinals loss in the MAC tournament

I have been saying all along I thought Akron was going to win the MAC tournament but I thought it be with them beating Miami OH in the finals.

So this means we have a bid stolen because there is no possible way you can leave out a 31-0 regular season Miami OH team.

Losing to UMASS though opens the door for the committee to put them in Dayton. I hope not.

So Miami OH vs Auburn going to be quite the debate the next 4 days

I certainly hope they're still in, I think 31-0 in the regular season is worth getting in even with that schedule. And the reporting that they tried to schedule good teams doesn't hurt. More deserving than teams like Indiana and Auburn at least, both with losing records in conference.

It is hilarious they lost to the lowest seed in their tournament, after all the attention they got lately. I would still love to get them in a 6/11 matchup.

So that adds a Quad 4 loss to their resume. They are currently:

Quad 1 : 0-0
Quad 2 : 2-0
Quad 3 : 11-0
Quad 4 : 15-1

Now the loss is on the cusp so it could turn into a Quad 3 loss after tonight but may drop back down depending on what UMass does tomorrow.

If the tournament committee really strips the names off of teams like they say they do then does Miami get in?

Strength of schedule 290 and even at 28-0 they are 82nd ranked on Kenpom. Not impressive at all.
You’re probably one of those guys that would like to see a power conference in over Miami. IMO that is rewarding losing. I don’t care who you play to go undefeated is very difficult and I would rather reward winning than some team that’s struggled all season like and Auburn or Ohio state

Yes, we’ve blown out every low level opponent we played this year. Here are the teams we played similar to Miami competition and some of these teams are 100 higher than their average team played. We beat these teams by an average of 36 per game. So yes we would be undefeated easily.View attachment 1198405View attachment 1198407
Why would you comp uk and Miami Ohio? Senseless stuff. Just say they had a great season going undefeated is difficult no matter the schedule and Miami Ohio is on level with the teams they play. They’ve shown they are the best mid major and deserve to be in the tournament with 1 loss.

I don't know.. Are they one of the 64 best teams? Maybe not. But they went 31-1 or whatever. I'd rather see them in it than some 15-15 Oklahoma type of team. In my book, a team that goes undefeated until their conference tournament, deserves to be in.

Also it makes the sport so much better. The opening weekend of the tournament might be headed for the cemetery if all it is chalk with minimal upsets and/or Cinderellas. Be careful what you wish for, teams like Miami of Ohio are what make March Madness great.

There are a dozen or more mid major teams better. Belmont who won’t get in because they lost in conference, St Mary’s , St Louis, Utah state, Santa Clara, VCU, South Florida, New Mexico, San Diego State, Tulsa, Akron, Mcneese, Yale, Grand Canyon, maybe even High Point.

Going undefeated with a historically bad SOS doesn’t make you “the best” 12 one possession and OT wins is luck. I’ll take a 27-4 team who played a SOS in the 100s versus a 350 SOS 31-0. To each their own I guess.

I agree they deserve to be in over an Auburn type resume. But not over a Mizzou type resume or any of the above mentioned teams who don’t end up winning their conference tourney.

Maybe you just let them play it out in a play in game vs Auburn. I would take the team that was undefeated all season u til the conference tournament then if I’m pope I pay attention to see if there are players to poach

A 1 loss mid major who was undefeated in the regular season idc about whether they have a quad 1. They should be in instead of rewarding some 14-15 loss team like an Oklahoma. Gotta reward winning

Too bad Oklahoma or auburn didn't get to play the same dog crap schedule. But I agree they will be in and promptly get beat down

Bet large on auburn
First you would need to see the spread but who knows: these mid major teams can make a run by nailing 3s. I wouldn’t touch that game. But it doesn’t change the fact that leaving a 1 loss Miami out in favor of teams with lots of losses is rewarding losing. I say just end the ncaa tourney and make it a tourney only against the power conferences. No auto bids just 32 power conference teams. Just let the mega conferences have it. Let the mid majors have their own tournament. I mean if you don’t put in a 1 loss sub 1 ncaa team then the tournament should have zero auto qualifiers for mid majors. I mean why should a team that gets hot in their conference tournament but a team that did it all year doesn’t. The 32 best teams from power conferences.

The bubble teams freaking suck. Auburn has 50 losses this year.

Put Miami in

I think for sure that turns into a quad 3 loss they were at 204 NET it needs to be 200 or better. After beating Miami it should shoot up.

I really was hoping Akron would beat Miami in the MAC final that been easy a quad 2 loss not a big deal and they made it to the finals they would not even be talked about for Dayton.

Now who knows I do know they HAVE GOT TO BE IN...Joey brackets moved them to Dayton I don't think that should happen but I have no idea on that part.

Miami OH vs Auburn would be poetic in this case in Dayton the fans would for sure would like a home game for Miami OH.

They should be in, but in an 11 seed play-in game.

The record is impressive. The metrics aren’t and it’s not like they won every conference game by 30.

I don't think they make it now. If you don't have good wins, you better win them all or your conference championship for a shot at The Big Dance.

Buh bye.

Crazy to think a 31-1 team, regardless of how bad their schedule is, might not make the tournament.

It really has to be Miami OH vs Auburn now in Dayton and here is why

No at large team has ever had a SOS below 250 in the NET/RPI and got an at large bid (Miami OH came into today at 340 SOS)
vs
No at large team has ever had 16 losses and got an at large bid (or been 1 game above .500 and got an at large bid) (Auburn 17-16)

The biggest surprise from this was learning that UMass is now in the MAC.

There’s no keeping track in today’s era of wacky conference realignment roulette.

Akron played the role of Kentucky just now with 4 mins left they were up 13 let Buffalo go on a 12-0 run and Buffalo had the ball with under 1 min left but they missed and Akron up 3 with 10 secs left had their 90% Free throw shooter at the line their best player Johnson and he bricked the FT and Buffalo got a 3 point shot missed and got the ball back with 1 second left and missed again.

Akron survives

Love how everyone talks about how terrible Auburn is. People seem to forget they beat us.
