We are exceptional at attracting highly regarded wideouts that never see the field. For any number of 853 reasons.
Why do you say that? Colorado is pretty deep at WR, and he couldn't even get on the field here, and our passing offense is lame. Plus, CU hasn't really gone after project-type guys from the portal; they have gone after all have been productive. I bet he ends up at somewhere like Iowa State.

This is going to become a norm for high school recruits, especially overrated ones. I don't mean overrated in negative manner but any 4 star from Nebraska is overrated because the competition is just so far below that of Georgia, California, or Texas. It would have made more sense for him to transfer to a top High school conference for a year or two and get used to playing against equal competition. A guy with his tools can have terrible technique and no understanding of football or even care about learning about it and still dominate, and his high school stats weren't record breaking as far as I remember.
A teenager with high expectations or who is being told and paid like they are great will find themselves in a room with 4th or 5th year seniors, grown *** men who are smarter, stronger, graduated from college and hungry to make the league. Guys who have played in 2-4 systems, know how to take care of their bodies and love football, considering they are still playing. These guys immediately become coach and qb favorites, even if they are incomplete players. The WR position is a precision position, as they all are. Our starters may be terrible at blocking but they mostly run the right routes and are physical with the ball. Malachi hasn't shown any WR skills yet, from crisp route running, to blocking, to elite ball skills. He is a big, fast kid who could stretch the defense but only if he could also block and run interior routes...otherwise teams will just double when he is in. This is an indictment on Rhule though, and his "development" plan. Just another nail in the his coffin that points to the fact he has no idea how to coach in this modern era. The last time he coached college there wasn't NIL, auto-transfers and he wasn't in a super conference with 10 really good teams.
I assume he isn't playing because he isn't as good as the guys that are, but maybe it is some other sinister reason, instead.
He really only played last year out of necessity. Heck, we were playing Doss, who is now a CB, and clearly, he isn't one of the guys DH identified as being able to help either. Also, it is probably not a great sign they traveled with Quinn Clark instead of him. It is clear MC has some talent, but it seems like something is missing right now.
He hasn't officially announced, but TOS is confirming he wasn't at practice and all signs point to him being gone. Portal doesn't open until Dec. 9.
Anyone willingly going into the portal this year that isn't a current and projected starter is taking a huge risk. Portal is going to be absolutely massive this year.
We'll never know if he was actually a bust or what not because our coach never freaking played him and I'll never understand it... I can't help but wonder if a better coach could have found a place for him on the field with a handful of plays every single game.
You can train a dog to hunt but it’s a lot easier when the dog is a hunter. Kid didn’t have the want to, if he goes anywhere and succeeds marginally il be glad for him, but I see another Zavier Betts.

This is what I expect also. The only way you don’t make it onto the field with those physical attributes is the lack of will to learn and craft. If another staff somehow gets that out of him it will be an indictment on ours.
