Mack going the Satterfield route of being a whiny biatch!! LOVE IT!!! Thanks for the tears guy!!!
So what’s the value of him saying it. Defense w
I don't know what he said that isn't true.
We don't run a lot of sets, do we?
I honestly think many get more enjoyment out of complaining about something than the big win itself.
But what was his point. Cal could have said well they are a program in disgrace with all the wrong doing they have been punished for. That would be the truth just no need for it.

It's a read and react offense. It allows players to make basketball plays. Sets are overrated
I agree. He does however run schemes and attacks weak spots. He has put Ashton in the middle of a zone that has great results. Yesterday he Isolated Sestina a couple of times and Nick as well. The open threes were not by accident. Right players in the right places.

Quit lurkin you little nuthugger hahahaha

You continue the UL legacy of losers doing loser things: (multiple user names....how sad)

Strippers.

Using stolen football playbooks (Wake Forest nonetheless).

$100,000 to Brian Bowen who can't get a sniff in the NBA (money well spent?).

Coaches who like motorcycle rides with engaged coeds and doing the deed on restaurant tables.

The most corrupt AD and President of any university ever?

Did I mention strippers?

This ladies and gentlemen is the University of Louisville.

What Coach Mack said is not a secret. Anyone who knows anything about basketball can see we do not run many different sets. This is something that many fans find annoying but it works for Coach Cal so really who are we to question it but it is what it is.

What bothered me with UL coaches remarks was his lack of acknowledgement to why the things that happened to his team that normally does not happen did happen. Namely, Nwora missing his shots. He only got 10 and had to work his butt off to get them and why was their best player on the bench for their comeback? UK took him out of the game.

Missed free throws? What about the missed 3 pointers? What about the bad pass late in the game? What about the cheap fouls on our guys, namely Maxey and Nick?

Just own it and move on Coach Mack. You got a good team but so does UK.
My question after yesterday that coaches like Coach Mack might want to ask, "what is our ceiling"? A UK team trying to find its identity just beat your FF team coach. UL has issues like any other team; UK exposed them yesterday. OSU showed us some and we found a way to correct some in a week, mainly playing with foul issues and finding a way to score.

Our offense is a lot like UKs offense with Lynn at QB. We dont do a lot differently. You know what we're going to do. You can either stop it or you cant. Sometimes it can be ugly AF when it isnt working. But when it is working the simplicity of it just leads to beautiful domination.

Ive been a complainer about Cal's offense, but my complaint isnt explicitly about sets. I would absolutely like to see more inbounds plays under the basket on offense...if we can draw up an easy 2 pts then friggin do it. And sure, having a few sets sprinkled in (which he does from time to time) wouldnt hurt.

No, my thing is his offensive strategy works fine once guys have been around long enough to execute it. It absolutely works when you can out talent your opponent. The guys that go that we lament leaving, given another year in the system can really make it go. Look at PJ last year.

But it is what it is. The OAD rule is thankfully ending. Once we see a roster thats able to run the offense from the get go itll look a helluva lot better in the early season.

That’s what Cal’s been calling it “random offense.”
Another myth to dispel. The big thing on this board is Cal doesn't scout the opponents. he has been quoted to say, he worries about his team not the other team. Do you believe everything Cal says in public? You believe he just throws the guys out their and lets them play pick up. Nick Richards said the scouting report said U6 runs 75% of their offense through Nwora. is Nick lying and you believe Cal's public statement, we don't scout other teams, we worry about our team? You know their is coach speak that is bs right?

Wow, you sure jumped to a lot of conclusions about me based on me basically quoting what Cal has stated 100 times this year. I’ve heard him say that this is the way the game is headed to more of a “random offense”.
Yes I understand coach speak. But I also know how to differentiate between it and what I see on the court. We run a few set plays here and there. We ran a good one yesterday out of a timeout that allowed Nick to score and quite honestly I was shocked. I’d like to see more of that.
As far as me believing Cal throws them out there and let’s them play pickup? I believe I see a lot of three guys standing in a stationary position while one guy pounds the dribble, Then you have one other guy running trying to lose his defender on a screen. Thats what I see.
I believe Cal’s philosophy on offense and defense is about being superior than your opponent individually on offense and defense. That’s why you see a lot of one on one dribble drives and all man to man defense. The problem is lately the guys he’s brought in can’t beat their guy. And on defense teams spread out his man defense and then beat the defender to the basket ( see Auburn last year).

Maybe it’s time to use more screens, and motion to free up a shooter that can’t create his own shot. Or mix in some defenses that help a guy that can’t
guard his guy on his own. Or a guy who can’t guard positions 1-5 switching on screens. This is why you have players that can’t get off the bench here and find any rhythm and end up transferring.
This is all I’m saying. I think it would be easier to start implementing this verses waiting for the perfect crop of NBA ready talented freshmen to
come in and dominate everyone individually.
Yet I still enjoy the heck out of a win like yesterday.

Just thought it was interesting that he said, "I'm gonna say this respectful" "They don't run many sets in offense". I thought that was a telling quote considering several on here say just that.
I saw several different plays ran. An awesome play to Nate on the block. Did a switch off of Nick which led to a great basket. Ran multiple plays for Tyrese. Several plays ran for quickly so I think for this time of the year with a young team if you actually watch the game you can see there were several really smart plays and a bunch of others.

You're talking to a wall when you talk to most of those people. The lack of understand of the actual game of basketball in this fanbase is astounding considering the longevity of tradition the program has.

Blame yourselves all you want Mack but if the two refs don't attack us when we go 12 up and get you back in the game it probably would not have been an overtime game. You got call after call in a flurry it seemed that got you back in it quickly.

We have some of the smartest fans in basketball period. We also have some of the smartest dumb fans in basketball. I’ll be the first to admit I don’t know every thing about the game. However, I know good basketball when I see it, because it looks like beautiful art. We played some good basketball yesterday. We played some UGLY basketball yesterday- so did UofL. It happens in hard nosed games sometimes. Sometimes it’s not about running sets. Sometimes you just have to give the ball to an play maker and say “get after it.” Other times it’s about drawing up a good play to score.

that’s what makes the game frustrating and unique. In theory, one guy can go bonkers and beat you on any given night, no matter how good you are. Other times, it’s a team effort. Last night for UK was kinda a hybrid. Maxey went off and we needed it. Then the refs and UofL teamed up against us. Our boys played tough as a team and responded. Brooks nearly won the game for us through solid teammate play. But then Nick “Big D” Richards decided it was over. So we had two guys just lay down the wood and the rest of our guys played awesome. Even EJ, who didn’t have a great game, had two key blocks to stop UofL when we needed them.

It was a good game by both teams- which is why Mack with his backhanded comment looks like an idiot. Sometimes you don’t need sets to win. Just say both teams pounded ball and UK was the better team today. Say I still like my team, and tip your hat to your opponent. It’s not hard. It’s called sportsmanship.

I think it means some of our fans look for anything to be offended by

I think I can be critical of something a coach says without being a “hater.” Calling a poster a “hater” is a cop out. Address the issue.

Mack admitted he was saying something potentially offensive by prefacing his comment.

I've been saying this for years. Anyone who knows anything about basketball can clearly see that Cal runs "action" to hopefully get mismatches against smaller or less talented players. Chris Mack said exactly that in his post-game comments. He even went out of his way to say it respectfully. It worked against UofL but, it hasn't been as effective.

Plus, it's getting harder and harder for Cal's offensive scheme to work because many teams are now switching everything. Meaning, they switch every screen instead of trying to fight through and possibly get a foul called. Even Cal favors this defensive approach.
That's why so many are saying Cal's offense has to evolve and adapt. Everyone else has.

What does that mean?
What I mean is: It was an innocuous comment. He was not insulting UK. So if you want to add to this thread and say: "what a jerk" you are just doing that because you like to go online and call people jerks, not because he actually did anything to deserve it.

Not sure he was a jerk, but he knew he was about to offend, even prefaced his comment with that recognition. Being critical of a comment a coach knows will be a hot take is kind of expected.

It's like when someone says "I don't want to sound like a racist, but..." Stop. Just stop right there. Anything that comes out of your mouth after that sort of preface is gonna be wrong. Adults should have learned this in high school.

you are exactly right. If he had not prefaced the statement, we would've all probably blown right past it.

I love Mack at UL. He is an abysmal failure in March and will continue to do so at the commuter school. Hope he gets a lifetime contract.
