LOUD "music"

I get all that. They should look at it. How to make it more tolerable in some sections without detracting from the game day. It’s generally not loud at rutgers throughout the stadium compared to nfl and top college teams. That’s my point. Turn it down to where people close to the speakers stop bitching and can hear each other converse isn’t going to work out well imo. I won’t say any more. I don’t want to bash our game day experience.
Not sure it's a matter of "close to the speakers". We sit at midfield in the first few rows of the upper deck; halfway across the stadium from the speakers. And it was way too loud the first game.

I'm not at the game to have a party - that's what the tailgate is for. I'm at the game to enjoy watching the game, to enjoy the sport on the field, and to cheer on RUFB. My focus is the game. The nonstop overly loud canned music just distracts me from focusing on and enjoying the game.

I would like to know what NFL and top college teams stadiums you are referencing? I have been in 30 plus NCAA and NFL stadiums and have never experienced anything like this.

they may have a point but I'd rather have that than the high school atmosphere of a Delaware game.
It's not a binary choice between the "high school atmosphere of a Delaware game" and what we have now, which is a crappy nightclub w/a very low-resolution sound system, lousy song selection, mostly only partial songs, and a bad case of repeatititis.

There's a large middle ground between those two extremes. And that's what people want, some moderation.

dont disagree. however, my point in that post (admittedly not explicitly stated by me): I dont give a sh$t what some Delaware fan thinks.

Penn state and Philadelphia
So your frame of reference are 2 stadiums? I have been to both and neither do anything similar to what is being described here. Those stadiums are loud because they allow the fans to get into the game without much added piped in "music." Penn State utilizes their band to supply much of the in game entertainment.
And I will tell you when the Rutgers fans are allowed to get involved in a game there are not many places louder including the 2 stadiums you referred.

The best example of the music being blasted between every play is this IMO.

Think about this, the students did not once start the R U chant on their own during the UDel game. We had two cheesy microphone led R U chants but not one lead by the students. What happend to after we score and the band plays the fight song and then the students do Rrrrrr Uuuuuu.

They did not have the chance since the music started blaring as soon as possible.

I for one love watching the students dancing and jumping to different songs. BUT it does not need to be every moment between plays.

And yea, it was way too loud this game.

Those were two examples. I’ve been to far more and perhaps in different circumstances than what you’ve experienced. In any event we disagree. Have a nice evening.

Piping in noises and loud music to simulate a raucous crowd.

Also mic ing their band.
Thats what I thought you meant but wasn’t entirely sure. I also vaguely recall people mocking them for that. It does seem awful artificial and cheesy.

But if that’s really what folks really want, fine. Just not 100% of the time or at such high volume.

I find it odd that people would actually want the same exact portions of the same exact songs played super loud through a system better suited to announcements than hi fidelity audio. For me, it doesn’t pump me up at all. It grates on my nerves and makes me want to leave early.

The game is what pumps me up.

Really starting to feel like the game is secondary to the constant barrage of obnoxious "music." Play ends, music cranks up to ear-splitting level, teams set, music stops for a few merciful seconds. Would not even consider bringing kids to the game without noise cancelling headphones which is sad and was unthinkable in the past. For those who say this is for the students, watch the student section empty out at half time while the rest of us have to deal with the noise for the rest of the game. I'm not opposed to piped in music but the constancy of it is the problem. There's big gap between "sleepy" and what we have now.

I used to come home with a hoarse throat only after the really competitive games from screaming my head off during defensive series. Now I come home with a hoarse throat after blowouts against Temple and Delaware from having to yell to my friends & wife at the game just so they can hear me over the constant blare of the music. And this is not an exaggeration ! And honestly I dont even feel the need to yell as much while we are on Defense any more... it feels like the piped in music they play prior to the start of the opponents offensive snaps is so much louder than the natural crowd noise I could contribute to.

The loud, chopped up club music blasting at every possible instant is very...Sun Beltish. Watch a Georgia game or an LSU game, then watch Louisiana Lafayette. Guess which one has the canned 12 second mashups and air raid sirens blaring for four hours.
Hmmm.

Never thought of it that way but have to agree.

You’re right as this present gameday operation doesn’t really feel Keith Jacksoney either.

The music is staying, get over it, the kids love it, the games are for the kids and the players.

Again, let's move on to the next complaint, lord knows the posters on this board will find something to ***** about, if it is not the noise, it is the parking, the bathrooms, the concessions, the security, the traffic patterns, students not showing up, fans not showing up, standing up on third down, not standing up on third down, foul language by people in their section, what am I missing, fans arriving late, fans leaving early, etc., etc. You know what the AD does with your incessant complaining emails, sends you a form email back if you are lucky, and then deletes, deletes, deletes.

The games are for the "kids and the players"? Really?

So it's the "kids" who are keeping the athletic department afloat by spending millions of dollars per year on season tickets, parking, concessions and donations?

Have you been filling out the surveys they send season ticket holders on the game experience? If not, and you are a season ticket holder, then you need to shut up. If you have, then you have been out voted, and you need to accept the will of the majority. Either way, stop complaining, the music is staying, despite what you are reading on this board, most of us like it.

Never felt it was loud.... I don't go to every game, but I tend to sit in the corners next to the Student Section. I am 44 and I like the music(at least 75% of it) so it has never bothered me.

I'll pay more attention the next time I am at the stadium. I was at the Temple game and plan on going to at least 2 more.

A survey of current loyal customers of any business is going to have much higher than 50% satisfaction results. A survey of lost or infrequent customers will tell you what your problems are. At my former Fortune 50 employer any customer satisfaction results below 95% were studied.

This is my first post itt but I’ve been following it all along. The constant loud music is one of the two reasons I gave up my season tickets. And, yes, I did express that in the surveys and swhen my agent contacts me multiple times a year to renew.

This was definitely done a few years ago. I had to miss both home games so far, is the band no longer mic'ed? I do remember thinking in past years that the music was too loud, and I'm only 33.
This was definitely done at RU a few years ago with the building of the "Big Birtha" scoreboard.

In the past mic'ing the band was a sign you didn't have the band or the crowd to create a formidable home crowd atmosphere. BC was the first in the old Big East to do so and it was pathetic. They'd pipe in what sounded like a jet firing up on critical defensive downs and the 100 kids in the student section would pound the benches to make it seem like that was the source. It was comical and sad all at the same time. Every other fanbase visiting Boston commented on it.

Nowadays you pretty much have to mic the band to compete with all the other artificial noise being pumped in. It's the natural byproduct of having giant scoreboards with giant sound systems behind them.

It's been said ad nauseum ITT that everyone expects artificial atmosphere at this point. Everyone can also pretty much be sure it's going to be loud. The problem is the frequency. It's just not necessary after every single down.

Just look at the student section, full of young folks jumping up and down, dancing, cavorting, etc., to the music. Yeah, I think they like it.

I love loud music and I mostly like the music selections they play; I may be 59, but I've kept up with music and I strongly dislike marching band music, so I'm about 95% behind the music. I do think they could lower the volume just a tad and still have the same level of excitement, as it is hard to talk while the music is playing, but I never felt it was "dangerous" volume, probably because I still go to a lot of rock and roll shows.

Music around 100 dBs is a little less than most people experience at a rock concert or very loud sporting event (just the crowd), but it can still cause some hearing loss if exposed to it over an extended period (over 30 minutes, which usually means continuously, and the music is clearly not continuous). Given other entertainment options have as loud or louder conditions, my guess is that angle won't work, but it's worth a try - probably the best angle is the enjoyment angle.

Am I the only one who finds the sound of leaves rustling to be relaxing?

What's Big Birtha? When they first started mic'ing the band maybe about 5 years ago I did find it cheesy and embarrassing that they weren't loud enough on their own, but it did grow on me because at least I was able to hear them and it was still better than the artificial music. Hopefully someday they are big enough they won't need a microphone.
