This thread is solid gold coming from fans of a school currently on probation for paying a recruit not to visit Ole Miss and buying a used Mustang. Not to mention the whole Pony deal. Self-awareness isn't a strong trait in this bunch.

While I agree that we should be doing certain things that are necessary to recruit well, I am not so sure I want to do things the same way Ole Miss does. They really buy into perception, and while good at that instant, it typically wears away. I prefer our 'what you see is what you get' method, it attracts guys that truly want to be at your school, and that has been proven with low attrition and minimal off-the-field incidents, at least under Mullen.
I'm not talking about a Will Redmond. You think he's the only commit your boosters have paid not to visit? Really? Come on man.
I don't care what Peaches says. It doesn't bother me at all. Remember, this is the person who wasn't man enough to pay a $50 bet. I find it hilarious, just like almost all Ole Miss fans. Sure, there's probably some fans on the Spirit who got real sandy vaginas. But the people on Twitter and elsewhere who went with The Network stuff think it is hilarious that he, and his band of gerbils, actually believe what he posted. He can say "rent free" all he wants, but the reality is he believed it when he typed it, and only said things like that when people from all over made fun of him.
That thread has over 59,000 views now. Even if your intentions are to make fun of him, all the hits and advertising his site are helping him, not hurting.
That's my point. You do exactly the same thing. Pay kids to commit, to take only an MSU official, to sign, etc etc.. Been doing it just as long and effectively as we have. Only difference is Starkville has very little appeal to highly rated OOS players. Spent significant time in both cities, and Starkville is OK, just a different scene than Oxford.
Some guy on rivals is even making shirts with #TheNetwork on them.
I didn't come to that opinion of Starkville until I spent an appreciable amount of time there. Hell, I'll be there this weekend. I'm also repeating the opinions of graduate students who have degrees from other universities who say it's boring comparatively (not just Ole Miss, but LSU, Indiana State, UNC, and others).
You're welcome to think Starkville is just as great as everywhere else, including Oxford. The opinions of people who aren't State fans (including more publications than i can remember) differs.
I now will never go back. Thank you for finally helping me see the light

That line of thinking is where the problem lies in this outrageous theory you and others believe. Nobody encourages fans to come to Oxford to "create a party atmosphere" for recruiting weekends. That's just how it is on regular weekends. I spent two years in Oxford and it's the same on recruiting weekends as it is the rest of the year minus home games (just more people). I've been out a lot in Starkville and the bars just aren't anything near what it is in Oxford. I've had a better time at Brewsky's in Hattiesburg than at any bar in Starkville.
This argument is so tired. 18-24 year olds attending a major university don't need the help of a seperate city to be entertained. Older adults that can't move on from college maybe and that's exactly what you sound like when you attempt to put down Mississippi State by calling Starkville boring. There's 10,000 vaginas needing attention and limitless alcohol to drink and marijuana to smoke. Or you can even do this thing called "learning". 17ing douchebag Ole Miss fans. Did you attend the University of Oxford? What exactly does Oxford offer that Starkville doesn't? About the same size so what do y'all have that we don't. Not a 17ing thing. You have some hills and some trees. Wow. Are you into pretty trees? Chandeliers and red solo cups? Trying to date rape sorority sluts? Selfies with Bob Nkemdiche's boner?

Dated July 7. 2013. Have we made it to July this year yet?
The NCAA essentially accepted the school's self-imposed penalties, including a reduction of two scholarships in 2012-13 and 2013-14; fewer official visits by recruits in 2012-13 and 2013-14; fewer off-campus recruiting opportunities by coaches in 2012-13; and no complimentary admissions for recruits during the Bulldogs' first two conference home games next season.
Anybody got a link to C34's original post that's caused all the upheaval?
