They are in third place according to the ACC network. They flash this across the screen last night and UNC was in third place based on them beating Syracuse. UNC owns the tie breaker.

I graded the VT film and IMO we made 8/19 on layups 42.1%

We had 9 Unforced Turnovers / Wild passes,/ 3 seconds/, traveling etc.

In addition we had 7 dumb/ scratch your head type wild shots, dribbling into a trap etc.

My thoughts: We need to cut down on the one handed passes. 2 handed chest passes when possible please

EA needs to stop using her left hand to push off on her drives. The officials are looking for it.

I do not have an answer for our rebounding problems. Coach Smith always said box out your man with your butt in their belly. Can't hurt.

The Standard % for Layups IMO should be apprx 70%

It would be a good thing to be the 3rd seed in the ACC Tourney. Play LU before a rematch with dook.

Last year UNC was 7th in ACC games in rebounding margin at a mere +0.5, yet we had 3 very productive rebounders. This year our rebounding is much less remarkable, but somehow we jumped 4th in rebounding margin at a very respectable +6.3) My only explanation for that is we make more shots this year, creating less defensive rebounding opportunities (which favors the team on defense). But even then, this is very surprising to me.

None the less, here are my takes on this team's rebounding:

Lanie Grant knows how to box out, she actually takes it too far at times, earning fouls. it is pretty fun to watch her mix it up in the post. There was one play in the VT game where she just side armed the VT player out of the zone (clear foul, uncalled) and got the rebound. Two recent games where she backed defenders off the court, earning fouls. so while not a good rebounder at all, she at least creates space for others.

I have noticed many times where Toomey established the better position, but does not get the rebound because she continues to lean into the woman behind her and reach for the ball flatfooted instead of gathering her balance and jumping. She is much better at rebounding than last year though.

Harris is also pretty good at establishing position but has below average reach combined with not much vertical compared to other post players. But she knows how to use her strength so has good rebounding production.

Nether Harris nor Toomey are particularly good at establishing position early though. That was a skill Ustby had from day one and Gakdeng developed by her senior year.

Brooks has subpar hands and weak arms. She often does not corral rebounds and loose balls she is able to touch. This should improve over time.

Henderson has all the tools to be a good rebounder, but has not played enough to get much of a take on her rebounding skill. But what data we do have is unremarkable.

Thomas should be the best rebounder, but does not play much for a host of other reasons, and her rebounding rate is way down from last season . Taissa recently has made her mark though and I think the team rebounds better when she plays.

Rebounds per minutes played (we are 4th in the ACC in rebounding margin):
  1. Harris 0.30
  2. Toomey 0.28
  3. Queiroz 0.24
  4. Thomas 0.23
  5. Nivar 0.19
  6. Henderson 0.19
  7. Brooks 0.16
  8. Hull 0.15
  9. Aarnialo 0.11
  10. Kelly .0.08
  11. Grant 0.06
By comparison, last season (we were 7th in the ACC in rebounding margin) :
1. Thomas 0.32
2. Ustby 0.32
3. Gakdeng 0.30
4. Toomey 0.21
5. Nivar 0.18

Is this a good rebounding team? My eyes tell me no but the ACC stats say otherwise.

3397 my eyes say no also. I cannot help but notice Nyla B keeps getting lots of rebounds. Sixth sense, quick hands I don't know.
Nyla got 8 vs VT.

There were numerous occasion earlier this year on the ACC women's teams and conference being weaker this year than previous years. If you take notice of the standings as of today there are 8 or 9 teams who could possibly make the NCAAT as of today. No doubt the ACCT is going to be exciting this year, probably filled with numerous upsets. The upcoming game against Virginia is a must win game to stay in the top 4 with a double bye. If they can manage to win this game versus UVA, all bets are off against Duke visiting the last game of the regular season, this will be a payback game.

Yeah, the game against VA is a must win game. We have to play to our standards. CB and Staff are doing a tremendous job of building up out depth this year and allowing other players to play to gain valuable experience and confidence moving forward. Resting IN and NH was great. Letting the other players play today was great.

Layup's Percentage: `12/19 63.2%

I still think 70% on layups should be our standard but it looks more like 65% realistically.

We did have 3 doubles where we missed a layup but got the rebound for another possession.

We had 3 unforced turnovers

Ciera Toomey had 4 blocked shots

Laila Hull showed us all again what a beautiful 3 point shot she has draining 5/10 17 points

The team was pushing to set a new team game record making 14/37 from 3

The team is also making a run at the record for most made 3's in a season.

Virginia at UVA is a gigantic must win for this team

Just watched the Post Game Press Conference with Coach CB and Laila Hull.

Laila Hull was beyond excellent in responding to questions.. I was so proud to know she is
a UNC student athlete. Smart, pretty and bright is a great combination plus she can shoot the lights
out from the 3pt arc. So glad she had a great game. She can be a game changer for the Lady Tar Heels.

I would like to see the layup percentage higher than 70%. Layups should be easy to make. I know they are only human, but to missed put blank layups every game is unacceptable. When playing good teams every little thing counts. They determine the outcome of a game. CB and Staff should be doing layup drills in practice to help improve this percentage. I know Dean, Roy, and HD do have a layup drill that they do in practice. HD and Roy got it from Dean. CB should reach out and do the same drill.

That is wonderful for Toomey. Next year with Noelle, we are going to have two shot blockers. When was the last time that our women's team has two shot blockers. Congrats to Toomey and the season is not over yet. Go Heels!

Last year, the year before.

two years back Gakdeng was 3rd in the ACC in blocks (1.5 per game), Ustby was 7th (1.3)

Ustby is 8th all-time at UNC in blocks. ( 5 seasons skewed the stat) It may not be her best skill but she certainly was a shot blocker.

As athletic as Taliyah, Nyla B, Liza, Blanca and Taissa are we could be on track for some kind of
Team record next year. Excited for Ciera. She has a real knack for blocking shots.

If Blanca Thomas can get in shape over the off season, she could be added to this list, the talent is there, the only thing missing is the desire to improve.

Thomas lead the team last season in blocks per minute played. Not by a lot, but her rate matched Gakdeng.

No disrespect but this was mostly about this season, your point is valid based upon last season. The potentials are there to be more of a force in the paint, even surpassing Gakdeng next season.

It is really hard to win games where you are -7 on turnovers and -8 on offensive rebounds. That means 15 more shots or FT trips for your opponent.

and as you would expect, UVA took 15 more shots and 4 more FTs.

but if your shooting splits are 58%/67%/89% I guess you can win comfortably.

unc will pass ND today to become the best 3pt shooting team in the ACC.

best 3PT shooters.. Go Tar Heel WBB.

Thanks 3397. I will use the 10/18 on Layups. 55.5%

240/376 63,8% for all games recorded. Does not include Cancun games.

Our goal will always be 100% but I think 70% will be a fair high attainable goal.

65% would be close to what we are doing this season.

It appears to me that we will most likely have to play either UVA or VT in the 3rd round of the
ACC Tournament. They play each other Sunday. We get the winner.

The wuffies appear to have the 4 spot locked up. Syracuse now #5 plays BC Sunday so they will most likely
stay #5. It is then the Commonwealth Classic and we get the winner.

Clemson now sitting below UVA and above ND have to play Stanford on the road.

ND plays Louisville.

I really do not care about the stats as long as we win the freaking game. Stats are made to be skewed at times. Against Duke we got 0 Ft's because got 0 calls and we lost after beating them on many other stats. I hope we can get some freaking calls in our own gym this time. It would be a crying shame if this happens again in our own gym.

If we would have shot a couple of FT's against Duke, I think we would have beaten them at their place. I am still pissed about how we could not or the referees would not make any calls on them at Duke. That must have paid them under the table for them to not make at least one call. When you watch the Nothing But Net on the ACC network, I get tired of him they say Toby F this and Toby F that for Duke. You would think that the way they are talking that Toby F is the best player in college basketball. They also sings praises for Duke, NC State, ND, and Louisville so much that it is just plain sickening at times. It seems like it kills them or is very hard for them to say good things about UNC.

Jriv you are absolutely right. The nothing but net crowd obviously hates UNC and Coach CB.

They carry on about Toby F like she is JuJu or Caitlin Clark. My gosh it is unreal.

I hope we kick the dookie's butts.

I seriously think the officials in the last game were paid under the table.
