One of my keys to this season is that BT finally come around to being e player which most of us expected coming out of high school. My aspirations on her was being a Kitley who played at VT, forgive me if I misspelled her name. Still have high hopes for her, ( it seems as though her conditioning is not up to par) imagine what a lineup it would be with her at the center and CT at the power forward.

Good win. Let us get ready for the next one. I think RK is getting her form and rhythm back now. She needed a game like this to get her confidence and swag back. Also, all the hard work that she has put in since the knee surgery is starting to payoff and she needed to see this too. Go Heels! I think TQ needs to play more as well.

UNC WBB vs FSU WBB

Layups: 13 makes out of 17 = 76.5% Really good ! Impressive !

1 double where we missed a layup and put it back in. I like it best when we just make them and
we are getting better.

FT's 9 out of 9 Absolutely Great !

Unforced TO's 7 I recall 2 3 seconds, 1 palm, 1 Travel. take those out and it would be great.
Zero would be the wish but sometime trying to force the action you get a few. 3 for the game would be a workable number

UNC vs GT

Lay up %- 12 made out of 26 attempts. 46.2% Plus: 9 Blocks if Announcers are correct.

Way below standard. The 6'1 shotblocker Turnage I guess had a very negative effect on making shots

Unforced Turnovers: 9 To High. I think 3 or 4 should be a bad days total.

Thankfully we played good defense and Toomey got 15 rebounds

We cannot expect to win many games shooting this bad even with gutsy defense.

Some Final thoughts:

Ciera Toomey with 15 rebounds probably took the lead for most Rebounds in a single game this season.
Congratulations to Ciera ! It was needed !

Elina Aarnisalo and Taliyah Henderson gave our team a big lift off the bench. EA is a part time starter 6th Woman this season but TH got extra minutes and increased playing time for this game and played well for us. I think both are future stars.

JMO but we need to limit the one hand pass attempts. It is not sound fundamental Basketball and lead's to turnovers we don't need to make.

If we had shot better this game would not have been so ugly. Got to hope we do not have to win shooting this poorly but it was a credit to the team they were able to gut it out and get the much needed victory without their A game.

Henderson likely getting a bit more PT due to Hull being out with injury.

We have Harris, Queiroz, Henderson and Hull all eating from the same plate to a certain extent. Yes some minutes here are at the 5 and some are at the 3, but that just brings in the two other women at each of those positions as well (Toomey/Thomas and Nivar/Brooks), making the log jam worse, not better.

It has been a mystery on why this team with good shooters do not shot better in games, this goes back to last year team as well. Would it be the combination of the lineups that are being used by the coach, or could it be a confident issues with the players?

Laila Hull 6'1 is a really good shooter from the arc with a beautiful shot. We could have used her last night.

Taliyah Henderson 6'2 leads the team in 3pt shooting percentage.

Maybe LH on the left and TH on the right and Reniya Kelly at PG would be a great 3 pt shooting lineup or put TH at the 4/corner and Lanie Grant or Elina Aarnisalo on the wing. Add in Ciera Toomey and that potentially would be a great outside shooting team. Zone buster's.

I will say to my eyes TH and IN hustle harder to make plays than anyone on the team, not to say some others don't hustle but Nivar and Henderson jump off the screen TQ does also. JMO.

I think the game plan is to attack our guards hard on the perimeter to try to turn us over. Even hanging back after a rebound to try for steals.

Bad shooting night no doubt, but UNC is still 4th in the conference in FG% and 3rd in 3pt FG% as well as 3pt FGs made. We were in 1st place on 3's made and rate, but have slumped recently.

By comparison, we were 14th in FG% last season and 9th in 3pt %. This team scores 7 more points per game and has jumped from 50th in offensive efficiency to 31st. Not great but significantly better.

FT% both years was was/is dead last. The per game delta this season between our league worst 66% and NDs league best 79% is 1.9 PPG (we average 14 attempts per game and make 13% less of those)

Agree that Toomey, Henderson, Hull, Aarnisalo and Kelly might be our best offensive group as of right now.

But Harris, Nivar and Grant are probably our 3 most consistent defenders (Kelly is still getting back into form)

Agree on the hustle.

And yes outside of Kelly we lack great ball handlers. Aarnisalo is a little bit of a paradox: she is really, really good at driving and creating her own shot, but not great breaking press, dribbling out the clock, or just perimeter ball handling in general.

I listened to Muffet McGraw on the ACC network after the game, and she stated that our team needs consistency. She said we need better scoring. She stated that CB and staff must instill to the players on our team that there is a standard that this team must play to each game on the offensive end, no excuses. She also stated that the defensive is really good, but the problem is going to come when we play teams that are just like us on the defensive end, for example, Duke and NC State, when scoring is going to be needed and having droughts like against GT is not going to cut it. I agree with her totally. CB and staff need to show them film and reiterate the standard that is expected on the offensive end. She might have to mix up the starting line up a bit. We cannot afford to come out of the gate slow; especially when we are playing the top tier teams in the conference. The panel of MM, KG, KRC, also stated that UNC is better than what the record is saying and that they need to start playing up the standard. We should be in the top 4 in the conference right now. I am in agreement with them.

We would have been Top 10 if we had closed out the 2 overtime games, Painful loses. That's the deal, there is no going back. Those loses are there for this season.

All we can do is keep getting better and keep stacking wins.

Jriv I like the idea of playing up to the Standard: which is mostly making shots and limiting foolish Turnovers for this years team. I have heard Coach CB say the same.

3397 I agree with everything you posted in your last two posts. I really think EA and LG not being physically strong dribblers hurts us in the halfcourt. Teams are going to try to rough up/pressure them. EA is great on the drive but not so great setting up the offense. She should maybe try to drive it to the basket more when pressured and either score herself or dish off to a Pre-set person for a open shot. Probably why we see the 3 guard look often at times.

No doubt Nivar is our best defender. I think Henderson has the physical skills and the motor to be similar but younger.

Just a shout out I thought Toomey played defense well, played hard and worked hard(15 Reb's) in last night's game. I hope she is coming of age.

The Syracuse game is another huge must win game as basically all of the remaining games will be.

Go Tar Heel WBB !

As much as I like CB, I have a hard time not seeing Hull get on the floor especially when the team is struggling. I do like the fact that Henderson seem to be getting more mins and frankly I think she should be getting more mins that Brooks as long as she can stay out of foul trouble, I've become very conflicted on Brooks potential. She started out shooting from beyond the arc really at a high rate and now that her shot has all but dried up I don't see at this point that she is skilled enough to do anything else.

Conclusion: I think CB is going to have more trust in some of these other players, RK has be an absolute beast the 3 game prior to the GT game but I don't know how many 2-14 games we can allow her to have and still win.

It's a good thing we have depth. The catch is we are a better team when R Kelly is on her game at PG especially if other teams are pressuring out half court offense.

You are absolutely correct about we can't stand many 2-14 games.

On Nyla Brooks, I think her shot has gotten flatter with not enough arc. If you take a rim and slow motion the ball in on a flat arc vs a higher arc you quickly see the flat arc has a much less percentage chance of going thru the rim. I think LH, TH, EA, LG and CT all have nice arc's on their shots. R Kelly has a border line arc at times and I think some days depending on her knee her bounce is a little higher or lower and it affects the arc on her shot high being good days. FT's since you do not jump are less affected.

That is why I think NB should go back and look at some film of early season when her shot was going in.

On Laila Hull and Taliyah Henderson they are both tall, athletic and have pretty shooting motions. Their size gives them an advantage defensively assuming they move their feet and are in the correct positions plus bring high energy. I think both need more court time.

If you play good defense and hold your own rebounding and winning loose balls it is all about getting good shots and shooting the ball well

LH has been hurt the last two games; otherwise, she would have played. Also, I think one of the assistant coaches should take NB into the film room and show her what issues she is having with her shot the last two games by using film when she was making them. Apparently she is doing something wrong and film can correct that if CB would just tell one of the assistant coaches to take that responsibility on. CB cannot do everything and I get this. That is why you have assistant coaches. Also, NB is just a freshmen. You cannot expect her to know what to do right now; however, I just find out that Caleb Wilson does this by himself and his is a freshman. When they lost to both Cal and Stanford last week on the road, it was said that he took it upon himself to watch the film on the way back to see what he was doing wrong and what adjustments he will need to make. No coach had to tell him to do this. This young men is advance in years mentally as well. This is why he will be a one and done player and he will be in the top 5 of this years NBA draft. This speaks volumes about him mentally. It has been said that CW knows this will be his only year at UNC and he wants to make this year a memorable year as well. He is doing all he can to help this team win and to put UNC men back up to the standard.

tarboy from the reports that I have read, Noelle B is suppose to be a good rebounder on both ends of the floor. Here is what CB said about Noelle which should answer your question tarboy.
North Carolina women's basketball keeps getting better, as head coach Courtney Banghart announced the signing of four-star prospect Noelle Bofia to don Carolina Blue in 2026-27.

"In Noelle, we are adding impactful length and athleticism to our front court," said Banghart. "An elite rebounder and shot blocker, Noelle will add immense value to our interior

Thomas led the team last season in rebounds per minute played (and blocks too) hopefully she gets back to that level of form next season if not this one; I have not given up on her yet.

she does still need to finish shots on offense though. Has not shown that skill yet at UNC

Kjcooper - Boot camp style conditioning and agility drills would really help BT. We see these big girls on other team like Beers and Crooks doing well. BT is taller and could do the same. Whatever held BT out early season took its toll on her conditioning. She could be entirely different with a good summer next season, maybe this season. She is 100% from the 3 pt arc. 1 for 1 !

No doubt BT could be the difference on whether this team can be a Top 10 or 5 next season, depending on whether they can keep their roster intact. Normally, CB does a tremendous job on this.

That was a huge set back on BT getting hurt during the summer. I agree once the season is over, she will need to do some physically training, agility drills (maybe ballet lessons), and some cross-country training, etc. I hope she understands that Noelle is there now and if she wants to play next season, she will need to make some changes.

13 made out of 20 attempts. 65%
We are doing a better job of making layups..

All ACC games: 142 out of 227 - 62.5%

10 Turnovers for the game 1 unforced several bonehead T/O's
However we took good care of the ball and could not have won without doing so.
It was a great win on their court.

Thanks for the stats. We must improve our layup percentage. I would like to see us at least at 80%. I realize that no one is perfect. But if you are under the basket, which is a higher percentage to make them, you have to make them. I think moving forward, we need to start inside then out, not jacking a lot of 3's. I would like to see NB drive more to the basket. She is tall enough to be able to do that. If you miss the first three point attempt, then move in and try you midrange game. NH and EA have a good midrange game.

I don't think that the FT% had been updated when you posted this last Thursday? We are now at 67% which is 15th in the conference.

(We are up to 73% in conference games only, good for 11th, indicating a significant recent upward trend)
