3397 Thanks for the post on FT's. I did leave that out. We are getting better at FT's.

9 out of 14 64.3% last night but under terrible duress JMO.

How you shoot FT's in general seems to be a lot about if your best FT shooters get fouled.
We have lots of good shooters but until lately did not show it in games from the line.

If only Lanie and Reniya went to the line we no doubt would lead the ACC.

I am glad we are moving up the FT team standings in the ACC. I predicted in my pre-season predictions
that we would be better than last season. Not sure how that is working out LOL..

Jriv, I like us taking three's but basically the only two that are making 3's lately are Lanie and Reniya.

Outside of those two recently good shooters I think we should avoid taking many unforced 3's.
I think Ciera is our next 3 best shooter from 3 right now and I would give her some leash from up
top but if they are not going in early don't force it.

As for Nyla Brooks she needs to learn to pull up on her drives when she first gets open. She usually drives
into traffic. I feel like with her size she could have a great pull up jumper from 10 ft or so and it would be hard to guard and wide open.

I am hoping NB and TH will get their 3pt shots going again starting with Clemson. They are both good shooters, they just need to make a few to relax and play with confidence.

Laila Hull who is just getting back into the rotation would be a good one to take some 3's if needed. JMO.

Thanks for sharing Tarboy. CB is playing LG too many minutes the past few games. She needs to cut it down from 39 minutes to at least 35 minutes. Too many minutes can put wear and tire on a person's body which in turn, increases the potential for an injury to occur. That was what happened with AU when she got hurt. EA needs to play more because she does provide scoring and she can penetrate in the lane like IN. Great win, LG and NH played great. Go Heels!

Layups vs Clemson Feb 5, 2026

15 made out of 23 attempts 65.2 %

157 made out of 259 attempts 62.8 % for all games graded.

Free Throws 5 out of 6 83.3% Good/Very Good

Unforced turnovers 3 Very Good

3 double's where we missed a layup but got the rebound but we still failed to score

Lanie Grant is playing great. She is making shots, playing good defense, directing traffic on the court
her play recently has been critical to our Quad 1 wins.

Nyla Harris is really stepping up her game. She has been dominant in the low post
17 and 10 last night for a DBL/DBL

Indya Nivar continues her great play. She has great speed and athletic abilities and makes great
plays when needed.

Reniya Kelly was obviously not 100% last night. We need her back at full strength for us to be our best.

Elina Aarnisalo did a respectable job subbing in for RK late last night.

Taissa Queiroz 6 rebounds and solid defense in 18 min of playing time. I told you guys pre-season
she was a strong rebounder. Congrats to her for playing a good game.

It was another Quad 1 win! One we had to have! Got to keep stacking those wins Lady Tar Heels !

Pretty sure this was not a Quad 1 win? The announcers said that at least twice last night ("quad 1 win for either team.") but I don think that was accurate. For a home game it has to be top 25 in NET. Clemson is #40, which is possibly a WAB and definitely a Quad 2 home game.

  • Quadrant 1 (Highest Value): Home 1-25, Neutral 1-35, Away 1-45
  • Quadrant 2: Home 26-55, Neutral 36-65, Away 46-80
  • Quadrant 3: Home 56-90, Neutral 66-105, Away 81-130
  • Quadrant 4: Home 91+, Neutral 106+, Away 131+
Our next two games are @ #120 WF and vs #183 SMU. Both are Quad 3/4 games. UNC has been has only 1 Quad 3 loss in the last 5 years: the devastating defeat on senior day last year versus #73 UVA with Kelly and Ustby both out injured. (last Quad 3 loss before that was vs 9 seed WF in the 20-21 ACCT, WF was ranked in the 80's) both of these teams appear to be significantly worse on paper.

So assuming we can win the next two, we can head into Durham with an 8 game winning streak. That would tie the longest conference winning streak in the Banghart era (we also won 8 in a row in 22-23 but the overall conf record was 11-7 that year.) the longest win streak in the Banghart era was a 13-0 start to the 2021-22 season, but that was 10 non-conference games against almost all cupcakes.

3397, They said it was a quad 1 win on TV so it must be true hahaha. TV is never wrong.
I did not think it was likely correct when I heard it but wasn't up on the facts of the matter as you.

I guess we are glad it was an important ACC win even if it is now a Quad 2 win.

Just in conversation Louisville has to play Syracuse and ND, NCSU has to play Syracuse, dook has to play us twice, NCSU and go to Clemson .

Keep stacking wins Ladies and get tuned up for the first game with dook.

Nice summary tarboy, miss doing this since the transfer to On 3. Everyone did some good things today which contributed to the win, BT even played better. Glaring weakness for BT is her FT shooting has not improved since last season, and she does not have any lift off the floor. Last season Toby F. of Duke was constantly blocking her shot near the basket. Her confident level is very low at this stage in her career, with the injuries which she has incurred. Nothing would be better than for her to have a breakout game against Duke on the interior.

I love BT's rolling hook over her left shoulder. I think she would benefit by 4" standstill box jumps where you
hop up on a box. Just a little elevation from standstill would make her rebounding and her blocking shots so much better. I don't know maybe she just cannot jump. She has good form on her outside shots but her FT's today were rushed looking. She has good hands but her legs have not made much progress so far. JMO

Thanks kj on the box score. I think it adds something to this site.

LAYUPS VS WAKE FOREST

14 Made out of 21 attempts 66.6%

3 unforced turnovers

1 missed layup rebounded and put back in

Free Throws 11 made out of 17 64.7%

Al lot about FT percentage has to do with who goes to the line.
If it were a close game and Lanie, Reniya and Nyla Harris shoot most
of the FT's we will shoot a higher percentage

SMU up next, Thursday Night at 7PM: Keep staking Wins !

Well it appears Kara Lawson has found some success with her lineup, would have never thought they would have won 15 games in a row. We all realize that the women's league is down somewhat this year, does anyone see a potential lost for Duke this year other than Carolina?

Layups made vs SMU 25 out of 35 attempts 71.4% Excellent !

Layups made for the season 196/306 64.1 %

Unforced T/O's 4

DBL rebounds 1 two missed layups and then a turnover.

Some thoughts:

1- Taliyah Henderson showed tonight why myself and others have been saying she is going
to be a future star. Probably next season. I love her game.

2-Lanie Grant keeps getting better. She is a great shooter from the arc but she is becoming
more and more athletic. Did you notice her speed on a couple of those full court drives?
Lanie is also strong on box outs and two handed rebounds at the peak of her jump.

3- I noticed Indya Nivar playing PG when Elina Aarnisalo took a breather. She did a good job
I still hope Reniya can return at 199% vs the dookies

4- So happy to see Laila Hull showing that beautiful shooting motion from outside. You can
see her teammates always looking for her. They know how good she can shoot.

5 Ciera Toomey is becoming a shot blocker. I think she is just scratching the surface of realizing
how tall and athletic she can be. She also had 9 rebounds and is an excellent passer from the high
post

6- BEAT dook!

7- FT's 6/7 85.7% FG% 38/66 57.6% 3PT% 12/26 46.2%

Thank you Viking 131. I try.

One thought I left out : I think Liza Astakhova (SP) is going to be a good player for us.
She is learning and adapting right now but she has size, she can shoot, she is strong, she has good hands.
I am looking forward to seeing her game grow as a Tar Heel. Also factor her in as what she can be and
think about how great of a class of freshmen Coach CB has got.

Thanks for the wonderful stats and information Tarboy. If they can continue to move the ball on the offensive end just like that did against SMU. This team will be hard to beat. We did not need a lot of one on one. Just good ball movement and everyone continuously moving on the offensive end. It seems like L. Hull is back in rhythm and in form after missing a couple of games. I think Liza should play more now. I think she is starting to adjust to the college game. She is tall on the perimeter, can rebound, shoot, etc. I would play her at least 5 minutes a game moving forward.

Random Thoughts:

I have never seen a game that one team shot 0/none/nada Free Throws..

Has gambling reached the Womens game? I pray not.

This team really missed Reniya Kelly. With her @ 100% I think we win. Even with stupid Ref's

I thought dooks game plan was to rough us up, push from behind on rebounds

That is what Duke does at home. Let is see how the referees called the game when NC State plays them on Thursday. Will NC State shoot any FT's. Will NC State get calls on Thursday at Duke? This will be very interesting to see in the box score.

I love Laila's shooting ability and Taliyah's game. I hope they both get to play solid minutes vs VT.

Another thought: Nyla Brooks is developing nicely. She is a good rebounder in addition to shooting the
ball. Plus she is developing at defense.

Taissa is showing some of that great rebounding I saw from her high school film. She can really play.

We have a great Freshman can with Nyla B, Taliyah, Taissa and do not sleep on Liza Astakhova/

Did anyone else notice Noelle Bofia in the hand shake line after the game. She is tall and looks
strong.

Noelle is 6 foot 4 inches tall. She is a power forward and she is the number 1 player coming out of Arizona. Go Heels!

I think UNC WBB should be in third place by virtue of having defeated Syracuse in the regular season. WE OWN THE TIEBREAKER.

Pulled layup stats from the box score here:

will be interested to see how it compares to your analysis because there is subjectivity as to what is a layup.

collectively there were 21 missed layups in the game
