Raise your hand if you had Aarnisalo as the first Tar Heel to log two 20+ point games this season…and it would take until the last game of the reg season.

Kelly, Brooks, and Harris each have one.

incredible balance on this team with Harris the leading scorer at 11.2 PPG.

EA is starting to feel comfortable running the offense. It took her awhile to figure out team chemistry, where certain players like to catch the ball, rhythm, etc. We are now seeing the results. Go Heels!

Layups by dook according to the box score: 11 of 26 for 42%. And my favorite was the bunny missed by Fournier with under a minute left that sealed their fate.

Harris outshot, outscored and out-rebounded Fournier last night. Fournier was not stopped but she was certainly contained.

We have contained or outright stopped Fournier in 4 of the 5 games we have played against her. The only exception was the game Ustby was out injured where we started 4 guards and only played two bigs for 9 min.

Her shooting in those 4 games combined: 7-30 (23%) for 26 points (6.5 ppg) She failed to score a field goal last season in the two games Ustby played.

In the one game last season without Ustby: 6 of 11 for 19 points

Fournier has been a menace on defense causing us harm as well though.

We missed a few bunnies today. Louisville shut our three point shooting down today. Their defense on preventing us from shooting 3's was outstanding. We had some unforced turnovers, especially when we threw the ball to high that NH need to be taller to catch those.

We made 11 layups out of 20 tries. 55% Just a few makes would have changed the outcome.

WE are now 263/417 for the season 63.1%

Unforced Turnovers- 11 (horrible) 4 in the first half 7 in the second half

Louisville chased the shooters off the 3 pt line or trapped the ball with a double team and took away our #1
offensive weapon the 3pt shot LU tried to double Lanie, Elina, Laila(when in game) and Nyla Harris.

The officials made LU's physical play pay dividends by not calling obvious fouls. I wonder if the championship game will be allowed to play as rough with no fouls called.

Looking back we I think we needed to shoot the 3 quick or drive the ball to the paint and shoot
or make a play from there.

I hope we get a fair seeding in the NCAA tournament and better officials than we see in the ACC.

Bottom line, Louisville women just wanted more than ours. They just outplayed and out toughed us. Our ladies knew what was at stake and they knew what they need to do. They just did not get it done yesterday, plain and simple. Louisville was the better team. Today, Duke did the same thing to them today. Their players outplayed and out toughed them. Congrats to Kara and Duke. At least one team from the triangle area represented today.

Thanks tarboy for posting these stats above. Someone posted yesterday that NB did not like a shot that see did not see. I take it is they were referring that she was shooting the ball too much. After looking at the stats above, LG and her stats are almost the same across the board. So my question is, What is the problem with NB taking shots? Did UNC not win. They needed every one of her shots in the first half. That is the reason why they had a 14 point lead going into halftime. I am starting to think we have haters on this board. I that is the case than I guess LG would fall into the same category of shooting the ball too much. That is a bunch of bull in my book.

Thanks Jriv, Happy to bring the boxscore to this board.

Lanie, Nyla B and Elina are the 3 that need to shoot. Plus Laila Hull.

Nyla Harris is really playing good. Nivar does so much for this team She runs PG most of the time.

I wonder if Lanie and Elina on the wings and Kate at PG is what we will see next season?

Elina with 8 rebounds Wow !

I hope the girls hit the gym yesterday and zeroed in their shots. We are going to have to play great
to beat an inspired MD team.

Was unable to watch the game today, but based upon team statistics what is going on with Toomey? She only played 12 minutes and took only one field goal, and Blanca Thomas did not play at all. Appears they play a good game, minus the 16 T/O which they need to cleanup. FT percentage was not bad if you take out Indya 5-9. Great win over an established program and a good coach.

On offense we chose to iso Harris in the post as the only big in the paint with Toomey in the corner or setting screens as a 3 pt threat. Maryland clearly had a game plan to limit our looks from three so most of our offense was dribble drives for layups or attempting to feed Harris. both were highly successful when we did not turn it over. So Toomey became an afterthought.

i think her half court defense was mostoy fine: her assignment accomplished very little.

the issue was rebounding. 2 rebounds in 12 min for your center while MD tallied 21 offensive rebounds for the game. Not good. They just got to the ball faster with more tenacity. And their bigs seemed content to only shoot 3s (they combined for 0-16) so may as well put in a perimeter defender who might be faster to the rebound.

FWIW I think we struggled when we went true small ball. That is when Louisville clawed back to tie it up. I wish Toomey was in whenever Harris was out.

I think Toomey will have to play more minutes against UCONN. Small ball is not going to work with Sarah Strong being in the inside. Remember AU could not stop her last year that was her first game as a freshman. Their guards can really shoot is as well. Fudd and company.

Good points. This will be Harris’s toughest assignment as a Heel.

I also worry about us getting the ball up court and running offense vs UConn. We are going to miss Kelly’s ability to handle pressure.

This has been mentioned as wishful thinking by some, but there may be a silver lining with us having to play UCONN in the sweet sixteen. (1.) Truly believe if UNCONN wins the National Championship this season that Geno will retire. (2.) With the possibility of him retiring after this season, where does that leave Sarah Strong without Azzi Fudd whom will be out of eligibility. (3.) Let's hope our women can keep the score close, it could provide Sarah Strong something to think about playing her last year of eligibility close to home so family and friends can watch her play. No doubt if we are able to maintain our current roster and adding her would have Championship written all over it. JMHO.
