I've never understood what value Kenny Smith brings to a television broadcast. There are better analytical comments made by the average poster on an Internet message board. He is lifeless and dull. To be sure, as the OP remarks, it is obvious that Smith absolutely detests UK. At most, he has always given very begrudging positive comments about Kentucky and then only because UK has played so well, he has no choice. Don't understand why the networks keep him. I detest Dakich but at least he's entertaining. Smith is a human sleeping pill.

Me and a couple of buddies heard that crud too. He sounded upset as he said it...didn't think it was okay to openly root for or against a team in his position.

I said the same thing to my daughter watching with me. It's one thing for the commentators to analyze a game, give their thoughts on what each team needs to do...etc etc It's another for them to throw in personal comments like "unfortunately".

I'm pretty sure the TV execs at CBS are happy with the outcome...there'll be a heck of a lot more people tuned in for tomorrow's game than any other game in the entire tournament so far and it wouldn't have been that way had UCLA won last night.

If Kenny Smith says it, I believe it. I've base my entire life on his brilliance and wisdom.

That's why I live in a Van down by the River....

Charles Barkley actually called him out either last year or the year before , he said the reason you feel that way is because you hate Coach Cal, and that little lying bastard said half heartedly no I don't

I thought at this point it was common knowledge that Smith and Kellogg are anti-UK and Barkley loves Cal???
This was my understanding as well. You can tell it pains Smith so much to utter even half compliments about UK. It seems clear to me that Kellogg doesn't like UKs success but he at least will man up and give a decent compliment. And Chuck is great, loves Cal and always reps for the SEC.

"It looks like it's a Kentucky pace, unfortunately."

Heard this as well and thought the exact same thing! I would love nothing more than to end the run of the cheats and ruin k. Smith's night. What an overt hater. Love when Charles calls him out about his degree and never attending class
