Of course no one knows but he predictions are likely. Fans of course think a scenario where they get the player is likely (more of a using their heart hope than using their head though)

Knox is not out of the picture. He is a wing forward that can score. he can shoot outside or create his own shot. No one on this board knows what Knox is going to do. Many think they do. Knox is very very interested in UK.. Vanderbilt will not sway him.

Just read interview with Vanderbilt, said he's going to help recruit Bamba, Diallo and Young. No mention of Knox

Im very happy with this commit. Big get for the Cats, without a doubt. Kid is a top 25 guy, with huge upside and versatility, that any program would be thrilled to have. I would love to have Knox also but I dont think you wait it out and chance getting burned. Go Big Blue!

No, obviously not.

But the real question is, is Cal a basketball equivalent of Les Miles, or someone like that (even Nick Saban before he hired Kiffin)? A guy fighting the dominant trends, in other words (losing that fight in Miles' case, winning, for the most part, in Saban's) ? It's just that I see a UK roster for next year where there will be 7 guys who would play the 4 or 5 at 90% (at least) of D1 schools. And yes, that includes Washington and Vanderbilt, both of whom I like a lot, but more as slightly undersized (though in this era, not really), skilled 4's than oversized 3's. And this clearly isn't the first time Cal's gone jumbo. He's continually been stockpiling size while missing on true wing players.

And I should probably add that I think basketball math can be very different than real math, because of the team nature of the game. There can be times when 2+2=5. There can be times when 2+2= 3. Are both John Wall and De'Aaron Fox spectacular talents? Clearly. Would I want them playing together? Ehh...Clearly a case where 2+2 would likely equal 3.
Are you saying that Cal is trying to go big as a intended scheme or that Cal can't pass up a certain type of player when there may be a better team fit by recruiting down a tad . You may be saying neither

He probably doesn't want Knox. They're similar players and will be competing at the same position. I think this is the reason that he went ahead and committed. Not long ago it was thought he would wait until later to commit.

Rick Richards ringing any bells for ya? He's a pretty good shot blocker actually. We have that skill set locked up already. Need to go get some shooters/scorers to finish this class. Not many shooters out there except Young but I'm actually hoping for a grad transfer for two at guard for next year. I think it takes a mixture of experience levels to cut down the nets. We've been close with just freshman but we havent done it yet. I think you need older PROVEN players to play alongside the freshman. I'm sorry but Derek and Dom are not Darius Miller. They're not going to contribute consistently every game and they're not going to play big in big games consistently. Until we will it with such a team team, this will be my logic. Now, I'd love to have Young and Knox commit to this class and have a crazy loaded class but I don't think that will happen and we possibly won't get either now. So, I'm hoping a couple grad transfer will see their value here with this loaded class coming in. A proven high percentage grad shooter would be amazing for this group. And I'll take a sharp shooting SF grad transfer too. That would be my ideal class. Oh, along with Bamba too!
Actually, it doesn't. Who in the hell is Rick Richards?

All this talk about shooters and fans ignore the reason we have lost two games. DEFENSE. Three point shooting will come and go this team will not win it all until the defense is improved. Once you get in the tourney you gotta win a game are two when shots are not falling. I am actually encouraged that we are playing really well and have so far to go.

This too a T. Vanderbilt is a great pick up but Cal HAS to sign some shooters because right now none of the recruits can hit the Bree consistently. Green is a considered a below average shooter and the Canadian can't shoot at all as well as Vanderbilt. It should be a good defensive team but struggle in the half court big time.

The good thing is most will be back for year two (very likely all of them would be back for year two). There isn't anymore shooters who are also very good players left other than Knox as far as who Cal is recruiting so hopefully he can get two grad transfers who are 6'5 and above and can shoot
In what universe is Green not a good shooter? Guy shoots close to 50 percent

Both.

But the main thing is that in a game where a lot of coaches are obsessed with spacing, Cal seems to pay no attention to it. That's a personnel and a strategic thing. He wants to overpower everyone. And hey, there are a lot of times where that works. It is, however, bucking the trends, college and NBA.

All these posters who are making fun of the "we need shooters" crowd who always bring up Cal's Final 4 appearances as a reason to worship him....do you realize how many final 4's he would have won had he actually had 3 point shooters? The only team that had 3 point shooters was the freshman combo of knight and lamb. Laugh all u want and throw them final 4 appearances out there...but had he had 3 ball shooters (meaning more than one at a time) he would have at the very minimum 3 championships here!

Yep, and......

and had we Derek Anderson we would've won in '97

and had we had Jodie Meeks we would've won in '10

and had we had Duke's draw in 2010 and 2015, we would've won it both years.

and had we had Enes Kanter we would've won in '11.

and we not lost WCS to injury, we would've won it in 2014.

and had Dakari and Trey not gone pro, we would've won it last year.

and had Alex not gotten hurt, we would've won it in 2015.

and had we recruited more shooters, we would have 3 more championships.

Get the picture? It's all BS! That's just impossible to say, first off. Second, I'd like to know who you think we shouldve have gotten (realistically) that would've been the difference in us winning 3 more titles. Id love to hear that.
It's not as easy as you make it sound either. You act as though there are just elite shooters everywhere and we just ignored them to go after someone else. You don't into account that there are circumstances for these players and these teams that you are ignoring. Cal has recruited guys that could shoot and we've gotten some pretty damn good shooters. Alot of those players exceeded expectations and left after a year when it was thought they would be around for at least a couple years. Knight, Lamb, Dodson, Young, Aa Harrison, Booker, Ulis, Murray, Mulder, etc are all players that could shoot very well. So, it's not like we have just ignored the best shooting players in the classes. We are also in on arguably the best shooter in Young this year. But there are just many circumstances with these players that you are ignoring. Not to mention that the skill has taken a back seat for a while now and the flashy athletic types have become more plentiful, while the pure shooter is becoming a lost art. It's not like we can just go get whomever we want in recruiting, contrary to what many on here believe. I just would love to hear your theory on what needs to be done and who we shouldve and should be going after. Thanks.

Can dribble and pass but not shoot. What if they back off of him and double someone else. kind of like they do Briscoe. Then what? Is it too late to learn how to be a good shooter?

With Young and Bamba, we have our "board wish list" pretty much completed:

Shooters- Green and Young.

Shotblocker- Bamba.

True SF- Vanderbilt.

Bruiser inside- Richards.

Inside/outside threat- Washington.

Experienced depth- SKJ and Humphries.

Ballhandlers- Green, Young, and Alexander.

Rebounders- Vanderbilt, Washington, SKJ, Bamba, Richards, and Hump.

What does that leave? Senior leader? Maybe Cal signs a grad transfer?

Vanderbilt isn't a true 3 but everything else looks good. Guys like James Young or MKG are true 3's, Vanderbilt can handle and shoot decently for a 6 foot 8 guy but he should and would play the 4 for every other team except for our "position less" system.

If we don't sign a couple of good shooters they will put four defenders in the paint ( Green can hit enough to keep his man honest) , making driving and offensive rebounding very difficult.

I haven't been a member too long, but the amount of drama and bickering amongst grown *** men on a message board, who are fans of the same team and are all here because we care more than most, is certainly something. We have a lot to be happy about, this year and beyond. There are concerns too. And we should be able to voice both without people throwing up their arms and singling people out who we disagree with. Idk. We have a great community here that I'm happy to be apart of - let's embody that and have a dope Christmas. Go Cayts

Edit: A little late for this as I was catching up on the thread, but I still think it's relevant.

No, he would not either. He would play the SF at alot of places, depending on need. A "true" 3 is versatile and can do everything. That's funny you call Young a true 3 cause he couldn't dribble all that well, couldn't pass at all, or play a lick of defense. You're right about MKG though and Vanderbilt is a similar type player. You're solely looking at height but not skill set. Vanderbilt is an extremely versatile player. Only thing lacking is consistent outside shot but that can be worked on.

So many fans are gonna be disappointed next year if they really think Green is a shooter. He's another Briscoe. An unathletic pg that can't shoot from outside.

It doesn't have to be all one way or all another. Yes, get the type of players in this class is great but there absolutely has to be atleast 1 if not 2 good shooters mixed in. Next years team won't be able to hit anything but a layup or dunk as it stands.

There was 2 or 3 great shooters in this class and we missed on them.. So you get the best of the rest and roll with it.. It happens sometimes,, get over it..
Actually Young is probably the best shooter in this class of the top 40 players. And we are at worst tied for the lead for his services. The only other shooter of Uk caliber ( Cal ain't going to bring a just a shooter as he won't be able to defend) was Walker but walker wanted nothing to do with a bigtime school hence he spurned top 10 programs Zona, Nova and UK for freaking UM. But you are correct this class was very very short of elite guys who can shoot. Green is a damn good ( not great) shooter though so not all is lost.

Also Vanderbilt is a true SF so that other poster was just wrong on that.

There are still graduate transfers, junior college players, reclassifications, and decommits. Multiple other avenues for us to try and fill the gaping void of shooting on next year's roster. Far from over as it stands today.

He appears to be a better shooter than Briscoe and Briscoe is athletic, to say other wise is just stupid.

Those who can't do or teach, opine on message boards.

Yeah cause when the stats show they've hit 19% from 3 and under 50% of free throws for their JR. and Sr. year and summer leagues it means nothing .

What makes you think Cal would play a JC player or grad transfer over a non-shooter potential NBA draft pick?

Briscoe is athletic compared to your average 20 year male but by NBA standards he is very below average. He's 6'2 and has to really try to be able to dunk. He's got no hops and he's got below average speed, even for a college player.

What? You really need to go take a look at him. I'm starting to think you don't know much about him. For a kid 6'7, he's got excellent handles and great vision. You listed MKG as a typical SF, well Vanderbilt is a very similar player. He possesses all the intangibles that a SF needs. He's extremely versatile. Going by your comments, not sure you've looked much into him.

Wow how spoiled are we, complaining because we got the #22 player in his class
lol, little late to the party aren't we . Who's complaining ? Vanderbilt might end up being my favorite player . But I was also hoping for Knox . And yes I'd rather have a top 5 ranked player over a top 20 ranked player . I'd LOVE to have both .

Can you ever say a single nice or positive thing about any of our players? Or our program? Or our coach? Geez, not even Christmas brings out a grateful Zaytoven. Every single post that I've EVER read of yours in negative. Every single one of them. Don't you ever get tired of being a Debbie Downer? You'd think it would get exhausting.
