You're right, you don't get it. Recruiting ain't over yet for one thing, and for another, is it not possible for players to improve. Sheesh. UK has gotten the #1 class and folks ain't happy. Ever wonder why this job at UK ages coaches so much. This is part of it

We've had the No.1 or No.2 class for 7 years, but only 1 National Championship.

Yes clearly we need you to advise Cal on his recruiting. His 4 final fours and national title pale in comparison to other coaches the last seven years.

In the seven years Cal has been here, we have four Final Fours and 1 Championship. Louisville has 1 Championship, Villanova has 1 Championship, Duke has 2 Championships, and U Conn. has two Championships.

After seeing the Trae Young tweet and the Vandy tweet if anyone has doubts that Young is coming to UK....well, ...shame on you...

I agree that there is a concern, obviously. But it just comes across as bitchy. When someone hands you a brand new Chevy, you dont say, "Why aren't you giving me a Cadillac". At least enjoy the new recruit for a day before bitching about questioning Cal's recruiting. I'm gonna go real far out on a very thin limb here and guess Cal knows far more about what's going on with any recruiting situation at any sec than any single person here. We have hands down the best recruiter in NCAA history and folks here are bitching literally a few moments after signing another five star kid. There isn't a single person here that knows recruiting better than John Calipari. It displays a certain ignorance and entitlement.

Is this season already over? Man that nap I took felt good for a reason I guess. UK has been playing basketball over 100 YEARS. Titles are hard to come by.
Besides Rupp, name me another coach who had better success at UK?

We still need guards. Valid discussion. But a couple of posters are openly upset about us snagging Vanderbilt.

It's both weird and completely normal at the same time. Welcome to the Rafters.
If you are talking about me you are wrong. But I do realize it probably came off that way . Look it might turn out that Vanderbilt is my favorite player . And I hope I have to eat the biggest plate of crow ever made . I'll GLADLY do it . But it doesn't look to me like the pieces are going to fit . Of course if we sign Young were good to go .

Question about Vanderbilt for those who know a lot more about him than I do...

I see he is ranked 20 on 247 (didn't look at other rankings), is he considered a OAD?

I know, it's hard to say until he puts on a uniform, but is he generally considered a OAD or 2-3 year guy?

We've had a lot guys in the past around 20-ish who came back (Lamb, Lee, Ulis, SKJ most likely).

It's suppose to weak class, so maybe some of these guys will come back for 2018-19.

lol, I realize now how bad my original post sounded . I was just REALLY hoping for Knox . I thought he was by far the most important recruit left for us . Even more than Bamba because of SKJ and Richards . I think Young is out of the picture. Anyway, yeah I yelped . Cause the rock hit me , and it hurt . lol . Peace brother "

Funny, because to me Knox is a PF. Doesn't handle well enough to play SF. He also isn't a great shooter by any means. Seems to be a big misconception.

Best I can recall he was ranked top 10 before he got hurt.

As far as OAD? No idea.

Unless he goes to Duke (probably) , I think he is a prototype three . He does all of the things you mention good. His midrange game is elite .

Huge get for UK. I love Vanderbilt's game. He seems to be one of those types of kids who can disrupt everything an opponent is trying to do.

As for Knox...

I'm all for Knox playing the two guard for UK next year. Would it kill spacing? Probably. But who cares? Landing as many of these elite guys as possible is what really matters, while at the same time keeping them out of the hands of the other real contenders. College ball will be down next year anyway. Having a plethora of legit NBA talent, even if in a lopsidedly huge lineup, is the type of thing that could set UK apart, especially when one figures the defense potential.

Also, I still think UK has a solid chance with Young.

Its not going to be that extreme and it hasn't been since he's been here.
No, obviously not.

But the real question is, is Cal a basketball equivalent of Les Miles, or someone like that (even Nick Saban before he hired Kiffin)? A guy fighting the dominant trends, in other words (losing that fight in Miles' case, winning, for the most part, in Saban's) ? It's just that I see a UK roster for next year where there will be 7 guys who would play the 4 or 5 at 90% (at least) of D1 schools. And yes, that includes Washington and Vanderbilt, both of whom I like a lot, but more as slightly undersized (though in this era, not really), skilled 4's than oversized 3's. And this clearly isn't the first time Cal's gone jumbo. He's continually been stockpiling size while missing on true wing players.

And I should probably add that I think basketball math can be very different than real math, because of the team nature of the game. There can be times when 2+2=5. There can be times when 2+2= 3. Are both John Wall and De'Aaron Fox spectacular talents? Clearly. Would I want them playing together? Ehh...Clearly a case where 2+2 would likely equal 3.

Gonna call it right now....Washington and Vanderbilt give UK the best pair of forwards Cal has had at UK. Basketball is all about creating match up problems and these 2 together will be a match up nightmare for opponents. Do need to go get a wing shooter and shot blocker now (Bamba and ??)

Rick Richards ringing any bells for ya? He's a pretty good shot blocker actually. We have that skill set locked up already. Need to go get some shooters/scorers to finish this class. Not many shooters out there except Young but I'm actually hoping for a grad transfer for two at guard for next year. I think it takes a mixture of experience levels to cut down the nets. We've been close with just freshman but we havent done it yet. I think you need older PROVEN players to play alongside the freshman. I'm sorry but Derek and Dom are not Darius Miller. They're not going to contribute consistently every game and they're not going to play big in big games consistently. Until we will it with such a team team, this will be my logic. Now, I'd love to have Young and Knox commit to this class and have a crazy loaded class but I don't think that will happen and we possibly won't get either now. So, I'm hoping a couple grad transfer will see their value here with this loaded class coming in. A proven high percentage grad shooter would be amazing for this group. And I'll take a sharp shooting SF grad transfer too. That would be my ideal class. Oh, along with Bamba too!

Cal's inability to get athletic wings has been more detrimental than shooting. Sign him up.

Do you realize that there fewer of that mold than any other in every single class? And by a large margin too. There just aren't that many players who fit that mold, maybe 2-3 elite scoring SF in each class on the average. That's just not enough to go around and each player's circumstance dictates what schools he is truly considering. Sure, alot of these players list UK but alot of them have no intention at all of going to UK and just want the UK brand on their recruitment. Whether they play for an Adidas program or whether they live on the West Coast, or whether the school coincidentally hires their dad to be a coach at a certain school.....cough....cough... UW.....all determine what school or schools theyre truly considering. Balance in all of those variables and it's pretty damn hard to land a player like that and even if the circumstances are allowing for consideration, their are 3 or 4 other elite programs on the east coast that are there to challenge for the player. It's tough man. Fans don't realize this and just think Cal sucks at getting a certain type of player. I guess they think he can recruit EVERY other type of player with EVERY other skill set EXCEPT that one. And that he just can't recruit that type of player. Ha! It's just not logical and quite funny actually.

I think we could be looking at a mirror of 2012, with Vanderbilt in the MKG role, Washington as T-Jones, Bamba as AD, Green as Teague, and hopefully Young as Lamb.

Not quite as talented and certainly much greener to start the season, but similar makeup.

Obviously need a couple more things to happen to pull this off.

Where is your Darius Miller? Big key to the title there!

Vanderbilt is ELITE!!! Great handle, great passer, unreal athlete, defensive stopper, shot blocker, high motor. He will help us win! He has a decent looking shot even though his percentages aren't great. Plus, he's boys with Trae Young! Give us Young and Bamba and watch out!!!

I guess this is only a slight disagreement. I think he is good enough at all of those things to be an elite college PF, but not an elite college SF.

I know someone says this every year, but if we get Bamba and Young, I do think it will be our best class ever. Maybe the best class ever.

With Young and Bamba, we have our "board wish list" pretty much completed:

Shooters- Green and Young.

Shotblocker- Bamba.

True SF- Vanderbilt.

Bruiser inside- Richards.

Inside/outside threat- Washington.

Experienced depth- SKJ and Humphries.

Ballhandlers- Green, Young, and Alexander.

Rebounders- Vanderbilt, Washington, SKJ, Bamba, Richards, and Hump.

What does that leave? Senior leader? Maybe Cal signs a grad transfer?
