This kid has grown so much this year as a basketball player. He’s obviously an incredible athlete but credit to him and the coaches for becoming a complete and composed basketball player and teammate.
Yeah, I'll admit I was 100% completely wrong about Young. Its truly amazing how far he has come during this season. The coaches know what they're doing.

Agreed. He has grown so much. And his athleticism is elite. Looking forward to seeing him play at this level for an entire season next year.

Was high on him when a lot put him down early. It was clear his potential, it was a matter of toning it down. He was going 100 mph when he needed to go the speed limit.

I think the fact we have 3 ex-point guards (Pike, Hobbs and AA Knight) this kid will flourish. With his speed and another year under these guys he will have a VERY profitable overseas career.

There were only a couple of us telling folks to be patient. I agree with you. You could see the talent. He just needed to brush off the rust and gain his confidence.

JY deserves huge praise. That dunk wasnt simply a huge play in a tightly contested game, it was him learning.

Early in the 2H he was blocked by haarms on a seemingly easy bucket where he could have elevated a bit more and thrown it down. Instead he missed the make and the ball careened off front rim. But he remembered that... and he made a play we will not soon forget when the moment counted most

Was always on the JY train from preseason and early when the ridiculous posts were flying in. Potential was obvious. His speed and quickness bring a different skill set than anyone on the roster and his on ball D is elite. The intangibles of non stop effort intensity and hustle are always there

The missed Perdue free throw at 2.7 allowed JY to go from goat to hero here. Not questioning his unquestionable contribution to where we are this season, but that miss bailed him and propelled his OT performance. He is not yet complete or composed but when he fells it, he can be deadly! Next year hopefully more control.

I did not like him much early on, he was like a freight train trying to go to places where there was no space....add in, the endless balls rolling off the rim, the
carrying the ball turnovers etc.....yes, we all saw that he was fast, but it did take quite a while to learn to play under more control

now he is a valuable contributor.....I probably would not have had the patience coach did,....which is why I don't coach

Letitrip2.....let’s be objective. JY defended well then after the shot stepped back and became a spectator failing to box out allowing the follow up shot. Brain freeze?

JY is a beast, anyone that thinks otherwise needs to wake up. With that being said we need to shoot FTs better

I was really mad at Jacob Young for playing good defense on Hunter to force the missed shot in regulation but then he stood there and let Hunter get the rebound and foul.

That was to close....luckily he missed one foul shot.

Jacob missed some free throws near the end of regulation.

We were really on the brink of another tough loss. Finally we caught a break. JY got better and better this year but needs to make those critical FTs.

Me too; he was my least favorite....... now I love the guy. What an athlete

I was high on Jacob before the season because of his off the charts quickness and athleticism. I did not like the way the Jacob played in November and December as he was not sharing the game at that point. I posted that he needed to change, and he did starting the Caldwell game, I believe.

He has grown as a player, as I had hoped, and this team is very different when Jacob is on. I am extremely happy for Jacob, Pike and this entire coaching staff.

What's amazing to me about young is it seems that he always uses his opposite hand that would make sense.

For example on that dunk ... he beats haarms and dunking with his left is safer (and he's a lefty!!)...yet he dunks with his right

He's been doing that all year (dunks or layups) and it makes me scratch my head. Don't get me wrong I love the guy...it's just the weirdest thing I've ever seen.

Thank for you posted that. Lol

my thoughts early on him was he just needed to get his game legs under him. Letting the game come to him is something all of our players have had to learn and do so well now. They also had to get used to each other. Love the way Geo and Harper are working together right now as our two best scorers. I also love Young’s intensity as he hates making any bad plays and wears it on his sleeve.

Thunderous dunk!

Thankfully that kid missed the FT or JY would have been shredded by the fan base

Worse yet, I was worried about him shredding himself if we'd lost because, IIRC, there was a similar scenario (at Iowa?) that didn't turn out well.

Same here. He obviously wasn't playing that well early on, but you could see his incredible athletic gifts (guy could be an incredible slot receiver/punt returner with his quickness, speed and wiggle) and knew if he could play under better control he'd be the X-factor. Fantastic coaching job to realize that vision. JY has the highest "range" of play of anyone on the team, IMO, meaning a very high ceiling when he's playing well and a pretty low floor when he's not. And I like seeing him playing closer to that ceiling lately.

Turning point if the entire season?

The Caldwell game.

Jacob finally matches his athletic ability with his basketball skills in that game, giving him confidence moving forward. His play after that game — especially during Geo’s absence — was the thing that brought this team to a new level.

I think JY picked the right staff when he was on the transfer market. He has clearly gotten better as the year went on. Also, he blocked that 3 pt attempt and that call was bs.
