If you don't think luck has anything to do with it, you haven't been paying attention. Wake the hell up, man. You can criticize Iowa for sure, but that doesn't mean you should overlook reality. Iowa got screwed by the officials over and over on obvious calls, and this thread provides the video evidence. Not to mention what do you call it when the potential game-winning 93-yard TD drive ends when the receiver slides out of bounds on a wet field by, maybe, half an inch? Half an inch the other way, and it's Iowa first and goal from the seven with under 2 minutes to play.
Suppose Iowa does get a td. They will go for 2 and probably not make it. Even if they did….do you really think the Hawks would stop USC from driving down the field and kicking a FG?

Thats hardly the point. They're being paid BY the B1G to call games for B1G teams now, not the Pac12. They should act like they aren't there to do a damn recruiting video for one of the left coast teams.
Then maybe a team outside the west coast should do something worth praising.

The three runs were over confidence by the staff tho i see their view

Iowa was averaging 4 yards a carry. It’s 4 down territory

They must have really believed that 3rd down run was gonna get more…then let MG run it

but what else can you do when your QB can’t throw the ball consistently

We need to stop trying to make "Wetjen the receiver" a thing, at least compared to showing that we're actually f***ing developing our other receivers.............
I like Wetjen ... but yeah ... I seem to recall USC and basically every other team we've played this year utilizing their TALL receivers. I even remember Daytona and Zee catching some jump balls.
We all know it's the UNION CARD thing. That's what happens when a dude has "stupid-safe" job security.

Another loss for a coach that hasn’t beaten any team with a pulse in 4 years. Ride into the sunset.
Yep. That was the deal after the Indiana game. There wouldn't be any excuses for coming up short. Either the players were gonna show that they still wanted Kirk to be the coach for the next few years by winning or Kirk shows that he can no longer win actual meaningful games at Iowa.

Unfortunately, the latter has proven to be the case, and we're beyond waiting season after season for them to figure it out and get over the hump.

Time for him to f*** off. I'll take the coaching carousel/roller coaster.

Yeah, I'm about to that point too. As of right now we'd prob be the 5th best open job.

He's an AA, and has been fun to watch. But, goodness, one could legitimately argue he was a prime factor in three losses this year. As others have pointed out, even JVs know you don't leave your feet to catch a ball in that situation. Some days he plays like he knows so little.

I mean, we are like 4 plays from being undefeated.

Yeah, RVZ is like 6’4”.
Howard is the next tallest.

I don’t know what we’re doing with our [piss-poor] attempt to have a passing game. Ugh..

Neat. And all that equals on to next year as far as accomplishing anything meaningful. And then it'll be the same sh** rinse and repeat next year as well, because we're so f***ing afraid of what might happen if we actually f*** around and win these games.

That's if we figure out the roster next year given what we'll be losing after this season. All new OL and if recent history is anything to go on, we might as well already concede next year as well, because that schedule doesn't get any easier than this year's.........

Man you are wrapped tight around the axle. I’m just saying we caught breaks in 2009 but not 2010. We’ve been in and could (should) have won all of them this season. Have not. I like where we’re at now and positioned for the future.

Okay, so when does that pay off?

Let me rephrase that. Which upcoming roster in the next few years, with this head coach, will finally pay off being forced to endure through all this close-but-no-cigar suffering?

It pays when it pays. That’s our lot along with Wisconsin and such. Aim for top 20, hope for top 15, crow about top 10, and go nuts if we’re in the convo for it all. We get the latter once every 10 to 20 years. This ain’t one of them, but that doesn’t mean next year cannot be. I wish it was but like I said we were a Birkle drop, a bad break against Indiana in the 4th, a drop on the 30 yard play setting up the field goal against Oregon, a lemon drop against usc, from being undefeated. But, we’re not.

The athletic ability of USC's receivers was mind boggeling to me, and their qb ut in an area where it had a chance to be caught. We are unfortunately way behind there. Just more what ifs for this season that has been gut wrenching from a fans standpoint.

So, just to be clear, WHO exactly said "that was the deal after the Indiana game". "No more excuses for coming up short". "Players were going to show they still wanted Kirk". I'm betting thats not the people paying his salary. As hard as it may be to take, have you ever considered that the coach is doing the best he can with the players he's able to obtain? Do you really think we have a roster that matches up with those teams? And yes, I know its his job to recruit the players as well. One of these years we'll get to judge the recruiting and development of a new coach. I hope for our sake, (and his) that he lands a bunch of 4-5 star skill players or this board will continue on its current path.

see the big problem is Ferentz only has to field another middle of the pack team, and Iowa fans say we were so close and he is happy and he banks another $7M.
The really funny thing is that you actually think what the "fans" think has any bearing on his coaching or retention. It doesn't. As for his pay, (here we go again), is it your expectation that we're going to go to a system of paying coaches based on their record on a yearly basis? I mean that would be great, but it aint happening, and Iowa's coach is paid pretty much EXACTLY where his team sits in the conference standing, middle of the pack, (and probably underpaid) based on the contracts of his peers.

How about "if if's and buts were candy and nuts, it would be Christmas every day!"?
How about the odds of you growing to be 7 feet are 0% but the odds of our success on the play where Oregon threaded the needle in the rain on a 30 yard strike against great coverage was extremely high? Frankly, this team has outperformed my expectations, in terms of how close the games have been, that I had at the beginning of the season. I thought we lost one too many studs on defense and the attrition finally caught up to us, but we have been playing really good football, for the most part. We could be undefeated, and could (should?) only have 1 or 2 losses, but that has been a product of squeezing out whatever talent our roster has. With that being said, at the beginning of the year if I W'd and L'd the schedule, we are where I thought we would be, based on the roster. I just thought we were going to lose by more to Oregon and USC. I thought we were going to lose a close one to ISU and Indiana is better than I thought and I expected to beat them. But, I did not think, at the beginning of the year, we had a chance against PSU. All in all, as Denny Green would say, we are who i thought we were.

Dennis Green and the Hawks Big Ten Championship chances are both dead
