The really funny thing is that you actually think what the "fans" think has any bearing on his coaching or retention. It doesn't. As for his pay, (here we go again), is it your expectation that we're going to go to a system of paying coaches based on their record on a yearly basis? I mean that would be great, but it aint happening, and Iowa's coach is paid pretty much EXACTLY where his team sits in the conference standing, middle of the pack, (and probably underpaid) based on the contracts of his peers.
If the fans don't care to the point of not buying tickets, it could affect his retention. He was on at least the edge of the hot seat prior to 2015. University sent out questionnaires because season ticket sales were down. Lickliter and Fran are both gone due to empty seats.
But the fans ARE buying tickets so he ISN'T on the hot seat

In basketball sure. Whens the last time you saw Kinnick 1/2 empty? Kirk may not be winning titles but we generally have a good team, and lets be honest. Saturday at Kinnick is an event. Tailgaiting. Most of the season the weathers pretty good to great. I could still see us getting in the CFP one of these years, but I highly doubt we'll tank, so Kinnick will still be the place to be on a Saturday afternoon. Basketball has weather to deal with , not to mention games at crappy time mid week, and even Sunday late. Pretty hard to make those week day games when your driving across Iowa. Plus the mens coaches have to deal with the monster that has become womens basketball. I'm sure they've lost some season ticket holders and casual fans to the ladies.

Yep. I acknowledged that fans are still buying tickets. KF will leave when he wants to.

Agree. I was just pointing out there were reasons that mens basketball took the hit, That Kirk, (or whomever the football coach is) will never have to deal with.
