so what does he have to do to win the Job?

I think a waaay more interesting hypothetical would be what if Nunzio wins out the rest of the season including a blowout win over Michigan State.

Now that would actually give Hobbs something to think about for a sec.

Interim coaches are almost never kept on as head coach.
Yes of course. There just has to be some level of achievement where you say " wait a minute, i think we found something here". And as the old saying goes, 1 in the hand is worth 2 in the bush... at that point Nunzio is in the hand so to speak.

For me its 6-2 with a strong bowl game. I dont think thats ever going to happen(but I'd love to wrong about it)

It amazing to me that there are people on this board who poopoo ANYONE who is not currently a D1 coach. Nunzio Campanile is from a family of offensive geniuses, He, his father and his brothers have been innovators of a downhill offensive attack. I would not be suprised to see Coach Campanile make adjustments to optimize Rutgers chances. It does'nt mean we will win games but give us a better chance. It would be something else if he is able to inspire this team to play above their level of talent. Good coaches can do that!

And one could argue that USC perhaps should have kept Orgeron on as the HC

Yeah I was literally about to post this before. Ed Orgeron crushed it the last 8 games of the season, won the locker room, won over recruits, along with the fanbase. definitely gave the USC AD a tough decision to make

I overheard at Subway that it's between a Capuchin monkey and a Chipit (Chihuahua & Pitbull mix). Should be a good fight.

First, I don't even want to think about how a Chipit was conceived but regardless, the Chipit, if it catches the Capuchin...it's all over...two bites. No monkey.

I mean, didn't Dabo come out of nowhere?

Dabo was never a coordinator, let alone a HC, before his current job.
Doesn’t his resume sort of go Alabama positional coachbfor a number of years, positional coach at Clemson to AHC to Interim HC to HC.
If being an assistant at Bama/Clemson is the same as HS HC, asst RU coach...then I guess Nunzio=Dabo

Not as good as MegaMillions.

But if he beats Liberty, Illinois, Indiana AND Maryland, something not even RutgersAl was contemplating 48 hours ago, you have to think about it.

If Nunzio beats those 4 and pulls off an upset win against PSU or MSU then that's a bowl game and you give Nunzio serious consideration because he has proven he can recruit,he is a jersey guy with alot of connections,he wants to be here,he would have done it in half a season compared to ashs 3.5, you can probably start him off at an affordable salary so the rest can be allocated to other staff. That's only if it happens which.....probably have a better shot at the lottery

How has he proven he can recruit? Didn't he come to RU from coaching HS 19 months ago? Did he work for another P5 team before coaching HS?

I'm not trying to knock the guy or give you crap. I don't know much of anything about him or his background. So I just want to understand the statement that he's proven he can recruit.

If he was a coach at some other P5 program in the past and was a killer recruiter, that would certainly add to his viability as a coach at RU.

If you go to rivals and check out our commits so far from this and last year itll show you who they were recruited by. It might say N/A for some but if you follow recruiting(not saying you dont) you'll know which RU coaches were in charge of recruiting those players. Like felter it says N/A but in an article it had said Nunzio was recruiting him. Alot of those guys say Nunzio is the recruiter. Not saying hes the top in the nation but it tells me he does a better job than most of the staff

Okay. I can believe that. But I don't know that it equates his being able to out-recruit the mid-tier Big Ten East programs. And recruiting starts with assistants. I think it's fair to wonder about Nunzio's ability to recruit experienced P5-quality assistants to RU as they'll be the ones doing most of the initial recruiting.

Hobbs should be getting people crunching the numbers to see which candidates have demonstrated a positive trend in out-recruiting their conference peers. Numbers can lie, but not when the person crunching and analyzing them has no agenda other than accuracy because his job depends on it.

Agreed, so like if Jalen Berger narrows it down to PSU and RU and nunzio was his main recruiter and he ends up picking PSU then it definitely hurts to be out recruited by conference rivals. Have to win those battles. Like flipping young from MSU last year was a win.

At this point, we have to worry about out-recruiting Boston College and Temple. Ugh.

There is a lot of work to do for the next coach. Unless Urban Meyer!

I'm gonna cling to my little Urban fantasy for as long as I can. I mean, if people are going to form loving attachments to potential coaches, I'm gonna chose the guy with national championships.
