I just heard from a Uconn and Conneticut born and raised friend (have several up my way), that the CT governor said the state will match whatever is needed to make Hurley stay.

Not sure if that's just poltical speak, but it seems that's what is being said around CT.
No shot lmao. The state government is ponying up for a basketball coach? How will the taxpayers feel about that one?

Of course this is real, but there’s no escaping the fact that pastor Scott left Mitch tucked in bed all alone last night and left him at the midnight hour.

Unless the two old friends were working together to create some media smoke. MB had to already know Drew was never coming here.

Prob giving him too much credit here.

If this works out, I’d love see a behind the scene doc or a 30 for 30 on all this.

Timing is way off here. Doesn't UConn have their celebration event this Sat? No way he does anything before or immediately after this, right?
Yes he could. We just won’t know about it until then. And his answer could be no.

I think we all should just get a life. This reminds me of the Saturday Night Live Star Trek episode with William Shatner. In his immortal words….”a thing I started as a lark has now been turned into a colassal waste of time.” You there…have you ever kissed a girl? We will be rewarded in short order with a championship level coach and life will go on. Just sayin…

Yeah that's not a good sign when the candidate won't even meet with you lol. The agent is just meeting to try to get him a raise at UCONN.
Agents meet without their clients all the time. It’s to see if the offer is serious. Hurley would be like 2 hours away at most.

He's a reputable source. A very fair Uconn fan.

And I imagine most tax payers are loving Hurley right about now, don't you? I don't thin that's going to be a problem. But I also don't know how all this works, and Im not saying its going to happen or that the Governor isn't blowing smoke.

But I do believe that the Governor said this. CT has more money than KY. Has more Millionaires and Billionaires. I'm sure they can find this money if needed.

Guess we'll see if their money is where their mouth is.

Hurley's sports and speaking engagement agencies have offices in NYC, just 25-30 min drive from LGA airport in Queens, where the Craft private jet N72UK flew this morning and is still parked.
Can you provide a video clip of said plane coming to a stop in front of some trees?

Imagine you were the coach at UK and had just wok back to back titles. And next year you could be the HC at Duke for 12.5 million per year or at UK for 8 million per year. Which are you choosing? I'm choosing UK and I'm not even thinking about it. However if Duke is offering 15 million per year plus 5 million for every Final Four I have to seriously consider that.

OK look at it like this. IF UCONN gave him a raise, it would NOT be 8-10 million. MAYBE 6-6.5 up from 5 (still a 20-22% raise with a budget already leaking oil and needed GOVERMENT to approve the 5 million, not school board the STATE). So you can make 12.5 million at one school, 6 million at the other. Which one would YOU take ? A couple million you are right, might not be enough to tip the scales. But DOUBLE what you make ? Be a fool not to.

Hurley made 5 million last year, got a bonus for winning the title which took it to $6.5. Last time he got a raise (after the 1st title), they had to go before the Conn. government to get it approved. $7.5-10 base salary would NOT get approved. Barely got $5 million, you think they double it ? UCONN athletic budget is operating in the red as we speak, no way it can afford more. The Big East just doesn't have the football $$ to offer those kind of contracts.
Man I hope you're right - but you can also think of it along these lines...

Can UCONN afford NOT to match the offer? UCONN had an 18% increase in college applications after the won the 2023 title - over 57,000 applicants. UCONN is expecting over 60,000 applicants for the upcoming school year. Take Hurley and the titles away, how much can that hurt the university?

I was right. I wouldn't have laughed at the offer too.

Like I've said multiple times, Hurley made it clear already, it was never an option and isn't leaving his situation where he's won back to back titles, and his wife and fam are beyond happy,. He'll leverage it for more pay and more NIL.

Money can’t buy happiness. All the money in the world isn’t going to get Hurley to KY if his heart and soul is at UConn. Didn’t we just find that out with Scott Drew.

Yeah I agree with you. It's really not that hard of a sell. When the UCONN men's/women's basketball is elite, that HAS to be really good for the Connecticut economy. Want the economy to stay high - keep winning. And UCONN seems to love their basketball

My brother in law had lunch last season after Hurley’s first title and point blank told me Hurley would take the UK job if offered. He just texted my wife an hour ago saying Hurley will be the next KY Coach. I don’t know if he has talked to Hurley recently or just guessing.

They had lunch last season after Title 1 and Hurley told him he would take the KY job then if offered

If your brother-in-law is a UK fan, we expect him to get busy!! :)

Well there we have it.

Off to Oats and Donovan.

(Hurley is an idiot...FYI...this was crazy money at the best college basketball program in the country...)
Oats isn't an option. Only Donovan is left in tier 1 and we can't put all our eggs in that basket so now we are going to hear names like Shaka, Beard, Sean Miller. I think we will wait on Donovan we just have to move forward with a plan if he says no
