If the rumors about this contract are true then this is Mitch walking in to his lunch date with Donovan an hour ago.

Probably safe to say no basketball coach in history has ever made that, right? Does any coach in any sport in the world make that? WOW

If true, Wow! At the very least it will end up being a huge financial burden on UConn to keep him.

That's the side benefit here.. we're going to make Uconn really pinch their budget to keep him. They are not a school that really can afford to be paying that. The least we can do is make it so Uconn will struggle to pay him every year.. and the second he has a 1st weekend exit again, it's REALLY going to sting.

Your bro-in-law and wife are friends? Keep an eye on that.
My brother in law had lunch last season after Hurley’s first title and point blank told me Hurley would take the UK job if offered. He just texted my wife an hour ago saying Hurley will be the next KY Coach. I don’t know if he has talked to Hurley recently or just guessing.
Gotcha. Seems like pretty solid information then. Thanks.

12.5 million per year seems a little low to try get a New England man to leave a New England School after winning back to back titles. I feel like it should be 15 million per year with a 5 million bonus per Final Four. I would assume UConn will be able to offer some what close to 10 million like in the 7.5-10 million range so 12.5 isn't going to seem that big of a difference if they can offer 10 million. Also what's the point of offering the super long deals? The coach can apparently leave whenever they want to but if they have bad performance we can't fire them. Might as well do 3-5 year contracts so the coach stays hungry to do well for the next contract.
Hurley made 5 million last year, got a bonus for winning the title which took it to $6.5. Last time he got a raise (after the 1st title), they had to go before the Conn. government to get it approved. $7.5-10 base salary would NOT get approved. Barely got $5 million, you think they double it ? UCONN athletic budget is operating in the red as we speak, no way it can afford more. The Big East just doesn't have the football $$ to offer those kind of contracts.

This kind of offer is why being a blue blood still matters. Blue bloods just simply care more. We will do whatever is necessary to make sure we remain elite. We'll pay more for coaches. We'll pay more for facilities. And we'll cough up more $$$ for NIL.

Lol if that is the offer and he doesn't accept......

I would bet after 2 back to back titles.. Uconn is going to at least get him a few more million, some of it in incentives.. I think it's going to come down to 12.5 million at UK, as opposed to 8-9 mil at Uconn. And that could be enough for him to stay.

For that Amount of coin, what are the expectations? What happens the first time he’s knocked out in the first weekend of the tourney or loses to Arkansas in the first round of the SEC tourney? Or heaven forbid loses 10 games?
Who really cares as long as it “appears” that he cares about winning the game thats in front of him…

And not waiting until March

Brother in law and Hurley
Maybe Hurley wasn't being serious at lunch when he said he would take the UK job. Also winning a second title could change things. Plus if you friend hasn't talked to Hurley since he could just be assuming. Also Hurley could be leaking false info that he's going to UK to try to get a raise from UConn.

The big difference is that in New England, the only people that care about college sports are degenerate gamblers. There are too many professional franchises there. His ego wants to be on a bigger stage. High School state championship have a bigger turn out when returning home than they did after a National Championship. He wants to be somewhere that his legacy actually means something to people other than staff and current students.

No is is worth that much money !
I tend to agree, but a Hurley/Kentucky combo could legitimately make the rest of college basketball fill its collective pants.

Hurley is a smug turd who can back up his arrogance. There's no doubt Kentucky is the greatest program/stage in college basketball and Hurley is currently college's best coach.

If UK was offering 12.5 million per year and they wanted to keep him I think they would find a way to get him a small rise. Probably not super close to 10 million but maybe 7.5 or 8 million.

All true I’m just giving BBN my little tidbit of info I have. Hope we land Hurley though
