You're talking about a bunch of thug blacks that's who plays basketball. So people should either accept it or don't watch but that's what your dealing with it's not just Nate oats at Alabama. Claiming some moral high ground is just stupid because anyone involved is painted with the same brush
@jedwar Perma ban pls.

Why are you debating this?
I could ask you the same question.

But, to answer your question: (Admittedly, this isn't a logical or fact filled answer because all the logic and facts in the world have already been discussed over and over.)

My close friend's son was once labeled as "not smart enough." That "not smart enough" kid went on to graduate with a degree from a prestigious private university. Now, he has a Ph.D. I have a similar story in my own life.

When I read on this board that Pope is "what he is and that will never change," it does hit me in a personal way. My work in life isn't to help people discover what they can't do but discover what they can do. I see a lot of positives in Pope's coaching. Our team was totally prepared for being down 3 with 3 seconds to go. That is good coaching! Santa Clara wasn't prepared at all. That is bad coaching!

I want to see what Pope can do next year. If he doesn't do well then yeah, it might be time for him to do something different. I find it interesting that all the vile and hate that is spewed on this board toward Pope and anyone who even partially supports him tells me a lot. But, that is a subject for another day.

Golden had a clear trajectory that went up and stayed up. Pope as a 13 year coaching history. Golden is like 14 years younger than Pope lol. He took SF to their fist tournament since the 90’s. He went to Florida and immediately improved their team and went up to a championship beating excellent teams on the way. He’s now another top seed after losing his top player and has less resources than Pope. He also owns Pope badly and controlled and dominated him, not even giving him a 5 second lead.

Now he’s likely possibly headed to another final four which I hope not. All being far, far young then pope.

Pope has a 13 year history that is low-mid and he’s never come close to good success with no titles conference or national, no top recruits signed, a average-bad winning %, and a slew of major blowouts. He’s also at Kentucky, Golden is doing that at Florida.

Why are you debating this?
Golden had won 24,11,24,16,24 at a 59.9% rate. That is not exactly a clear trajectory to greatness.

This is Pope's 11th season. Saying it is his 13th is clearly being dishonest. You are way too invested in this to not know better.

I agree but people think he's shady because of the Miller and Holloway incidents. Barnhart wouldn't hire Cal when tubby left because of UMass and Derrick Rose. The second time around they finally made the correct hire. Hopefully history repeats itself.
Are you ignoring that the school president said Mitch wanted to hire Cal and he blocked it or are you just unaware?

The names I'm seeing for the NC job are depressing. Still blows my mind that Cal walked away, saved UK 40 mil, and Mitch went with Pope, quickly.
Reality for Kentucky fans is going to get so much harder in the coming years as UNC and Kansas get new elite coaches while we wonder if we’ll even get a bye in the SEC tournament. I think many of us are going to stop watching college basketball altogether as it becomes too hard to watch as our premier status evaporates and our all-time wins and other stats are conquered by other blue bloods.

We’re living a nightmare and half our fanbase is fine with it. We’re like the turkey that knows we’re about to be killed as the other turkeys blindly push us toward the slaughter house.

Pete Thamel just said there will be a meeting next week to determin Hubert's future. Then he said there will be a new coaching staff next year at UNC.

I washoping they would give him another year
Please North Carolina don't fire Hubert. I love them sucking every year.

You just said in another thread that Kentucky wouldn’t be able to get a good coach if they got rid of Pope. Why do you think UNC will be able to get rid of Hubert Davis and end up “better” if Kentucky wouldn’t? And Davis has a much more impressive record at UNC than Pope, mind you.

Golden would crush it at UNC.

JB
He doesn’t look like a coach that would be at North Carolina*. He is a good coach but some of the top players might not want to play for that little perv. He had some good players at Florida and they stayed, that’s not going to happen much going forward.

Good for them. They actually have standards unlike us. Hubert aint capable of winning a title. I know he went to the championship game his first year but he had Roy’s players. And I don’t care what anybody says, you can bet Roy Williams was helping to coach that team too. Kinda like Jim Calhoun and Kevin Ollie.
What a bunch of whiny drama queens on here. Crying while UK is still right in the thick if the tourney can't you at least wait until we are eliminated before you start running your defeatist BS

He’s a decent coach, but he’s not some super great coach like yall act like he is. How far they make it last year without Clayton? Not very. They lose second round without him. Clayton literally willed that team to victory so many time in that tournament! Next Pitino?! Lmao not even close.
True. Like I stated earlier, he’s got hella leadership and experience on this team. Brought back his core players , let’s see what he does next year👌

This is bad news for UK for sure. Carolina will instantly be improved with a new coach and they likely get the “best available” coach which certainly would have been one of our candidates to replace Pope

Posters n this thread will love watching that coach win unc a 7th title. If their hero Pope stays here enough they may pass us before he's gone.

UNC is not UK for sure. They’re not going to spend the better part of a decade making excuses for a coach that can no longer get it done like we did for Tubby and Cal.

We’ll hold onto Pope longer than we should too. That’s UK sports in a nutshell over the last 25 years. Probably held onto Stoops too long too. The average fans want it worse than the real decision makers.

How bad will this look on UK and MB if UNC goes out and make a massive hire of someone like Tommy Lloyd, Billy Donovan, etc?

Also, historically I thought UNC coaches were not always top paid coaches. They will have to pay any top notch coach.

If they fire him, the replacement will be an interesting data point for one of the ongoing debates here about how much “blue blood” status still matters. Personally, I won’t be surprised if it ends up being someone like Josh Schertz or Brian Hodgson instead of just taking their pick of coaches from current Final Four contenders, but I’ll own it if I’m wrong.

Hubert was a data point in the already on going trend. Basketball and football.

Mighty UNC post Roy could hire anyone. It was set up perfectly for a hot, young, rising star.
They got an alumn with no experience.

Duke…former alumn. Scheyer looks pretty good and maybe he was their guy all along. However, I feel like if any top tier elite coach with an FF or title wanted the gig, they would have it.

UK will surely get their #1! We barely got Pope! Imagine if he didn’t play here! Who would we have?!

How many superstars has Florida football hired post Meyer?!

All the high conviction “elite programs get first choice elite coach…” folks go ahead and hit the poly market with how long you think JS last. Then parlay it with whether or not you think chompers will get their #1 superstar after they run JS off for winning 9ish per…

Michigan football. Moore and now a retired Mountain West coach.

Bama didn’t get their first choice. Lanning wanted no part of that.
