The point is that Florida did take a chance just as UK took a chance on Pope. If he had been fired after 2 years, there would be no title. Posters want Pope fired after 2 years of better performance. Pope is who is always has been, according to many on this board but somehow Golden boy wasn't even after 5 years of mediocrity. I honestly don't get that logic.
I didn’t say I want anyone fired yet. Two years is just too early unless they are crazy like BCG. I get what you mean now.

Actually, we do that here. Tubby had a NC and then an E8. For the next 8 years all he could manage was 2 more E8's. Billy had off the court issues. Cal was given 5 years of poor performance before he was finally gently pushed out the door. I get your concern. I really do.
Calipari was a mega brand name. You don’t run them off because of a few years down. We went a lot longer with him than we’d usually go. Tubby had a title a final four 4 elite 8’s and 5 SEC titles out of 8 years and then he had a few down and a final four drought and he was gone.

No we don’t ever allow a coach without any success like Pope to hang around for years and years before we move. We have never done that.

I did and he had a FANTASTIC 3rd year at Florida. I am hoping that Pope has a fantastic 3rd year at UK! :):):)
Golden had a clear trajectory that went up and stayed up. Pope as a 13 year coaching history. Golden is like 14 years younger than Pope lol. He took SF to their fist tournament since the 90’s. He went to Florida and immediately improved their team and went up to a championship beating excellent teams on the way. He’s now another top seed after losing his top player and has less resources than Pope. He also owns Pope badly and controlled and dominated him, not even giving him a 5 second lead.

Now he’s likely possibly headed to another final four which I hope not. All being far, far young then pope.

Pope has a 13 year history that is low-mid and he’s never come close to good success with no titles conference or national, no top recruits signed, a average-bad winning %, and a slew of major blowouts. He’s also at Kentucky, Golden is doing that at Florida.

Why are you debating this?

Tubby never went back to the final four after his first season. Not to nit pick, just that your post sort of reads like you think he had a 2nd final four after the 1998 championship.

Tubby went Natti, E8, 32, 16, 16, E8, 32, E8, 32, 32.

Tubby was a good coach but after the 2005 team fell short of the FF it was finally obvious his ceiling was an E8 and his floor was the 2nd round.

I definitely agree with your final point. I understand a 3rd year but if it’s more of the same i’ll be frustrated if the atheltic department doesn’t make a move next off season.

I’d do it this off season tbh. Popes been a head coach for 11 years. Basketball people can tell.

There's no more controversy with oats as with cal. Be nice if we'd beat them to the punch and hire him
I agree but people think he's shady because of the Miller and Holloway incidents. Barnhart wouldn't hire Cal when tubby left because of UMass and Derrick Rose. The second time around they finally made the correct hire. Hopefully history repeats itself.

I worry we’re going to “eat last” among the blue bloods. UNC picks up an elite coach this hear, then Kansas does next year while we piddle around determining Pope should get a 4th year or not. Where does that leave us beyond picking the leftovers?
We may be better off waiting a year or the guy who hired Pope will be hiring his replacement. That’s terrifying.

My friend. Tubby Smith resigned after the 2006-07 season. Derrick Rose didn’t play at Memphis until the 2007-08 season. Where did you get your chronology of events from? Because it is incorrect.

Yes you're right my timeline is mixed up I apologize. People initially thought he was dirty because UMass had it's ff vacated. Rose test scores just added fuel to the fire.

Good for them. They actually have standards unlike us. Hubert aint capable of winning a title. I know he went to the championship game his first year but he had Roy’s players. And I don’t care what anybody says, you can bet Roy Williams was helping to coach that team too. Kinda like Jim Calhoun and Kevin Ollie.
I think giving Roy any credit for that season is disingenuous especially considering Roy went 32-30 his last 2 seasons.

It’s embarrassing we have fans trying to say Todd golden isn’t a good coach because they want to somehow compare him to our coach. Makes no sense to me. I don’t like how he acts but he can coach.
He’s a good coach. The next Pitino?! I doubt that very seriously. Quite comical statement if we’re being honest.

Serious question: Why would they hire family now? The reason they did it before was to keep the academic fraud ongoing. In fact, Dean Smyth specifically told Doherty not to touch the academic support program.

When cheating is institutionalized like it was at UNC, they pretty much had to hire family. Now, with NIL and the transfer portal, there is no need to do that anymore.

Why'd they do it before? Why does duke?

They were never getting in trouble. I really don't understand why those two hire in the family. There is some reason.

This has been beat to death. There is no comparison in the two. I don’t know where this keeps from from. No comparison.
He did preface it as before last season. Before last season Golden was 97-65 (59.9 %) overall and 40-29 (58%) in two seasons at Florida. He has had a great two years since with great rosters since but it is yet to be seen what he does going forward.
