Just received that Presidential alert on my cell phone.

Does this mean the government will record every thing I say and do now? I'd hate to have to ditch my vintage ride.

Kyle Tucker and "The Athletic" is a marriage made in sanctimonious heaven. Listening to that clown prattle on and on about his "talented colleagues" and all the "smart, funny and brave" writers at that website is enough to make you want to punch a dog. "Oh, how I love my new, fun and really cool gig!"

Good Lord he's insufferable.

Same Vern. The Hawk is my favorite player of all time. Tried to copy that batters box stance of his with the front leg way out...didn’t work well. But then again, I’m not even allowed to be a Cubs fan.

Just caught someone breaking into my car at work. Held him until police arrived. Was on another planet coming down off meth & "hiding from people on four wheelers".

Great start to the morning. I hate people.
Those railroad tracks is where a lot of junkies hang out. One got ran over by a train a few weeks back.

I mean, how much of their business is pro-bestiality? Seems like not a bad place to draw a line in the sand.

Brave lol

I feel like it's the opposite of brave. If you are a journalist, the brave thing to do is take a measured, reasonable approach in your reporting - look at all sides, check facts, and most importantly, don't report things that are BS or sensational. It's brave because you'll probably be out of a job if that's what you do.

To be fair to sports journalist I believe a lot of the click bait ******** probably really isn't their idea of fun. What bothers me is the sanctimonious BS they spew.

Good point. I guess if you're constantly fearful of losing your job, not getting paid well, and reporting on something that in the grand scheme of things isn't that important anyway, talking about how brave/awesome/powerful your co-workers "piece" is makes you feel better about yourself.

Tucker is a talented writer, but he can't keep a job due to the financial situations of his employers. Has to be stressful and therefore constantly offering/receiving support is probably needed.

I wish him and the other journos the best, but they’re an obnoxious bunch.

The fact that the FBI is basically doing investigations into UofL cheating and the Supreme Court nominee simultaneously is pretty astounding.

Between this, and the takedown The Chronicle of Higher Education did last week (sorry if that's already been posted here), I don't think any of us, circa 2013, would have come up with this scenario of how things would work out for them in our wildest dreams.

The architect of this success was the athletic director, Tom Jurich. After a brief career as an NFL kicker (he played one game and missed all three of his field-goal attempts)

lmao
Wa wa wa waiiiiiiit.....

TOMMA J A SAD TITTIE MAN was an effing kicker? You have got to be joking.

This whole time I assumed he was some mediocre o-lineman in college with a portly, but eager to please, girlfriend named Terrahhhlynn.

And that gaffot kicker turned into Brad Wesley running roughshod over the Louisville community?

That’s a sorry lot right there, folks.

The problem for all of these places (and likely the long term problem for the Athletic) is they are producing a commodity that in general, people don’t want. What I mean is, they write for each other and not the average Fan. KSR was started with one simple idea in mind....what does the average fan want to read? Period. And that’s what we do. We have gone from one full time employee to six in four years on web and another 12-15 employees on Radio/tv. And it’s simple...hire fans to work for average fans. That process (and a huge fan base like UK) can work.

Most newspapers and other journalist sites are writing for the highly educated journalist Fan. And the reality is that there aren’t enough of those in most fanbases to survive. Period. The NY Times/WSJ can thrive because they have become national publications and there are enough intelligent people who love great writing nationally to make it work. But in local markets there aren’t and outlets haven’t adjusted

The Herald is making changes (their front page looks more and more like KSR every day), but that is the problem. The Athletic is clearly trying to be The NY Times for sports....maybe it works. I am skeptical but it’s not my money so I wish them the best.

Good points, and interesting - but I wouldn't put WSJ and The Failing NYT in the same stratosphere of catering to intelligent readers.

I've noticed what you said about LHL/kentucky.com is true. I eagerly await their final circles around the drain, and love that KSR is probably hastening that.

The delivery system and news cycle has completely changed.

The New York Times can’t turn a dime.

For that matter, the NY Post and Daily News write for the ‘common’ fan and they both just fired all of their sports journalists. So bad, the local government floated the idea of a bailout.

Average guy wants to cut to the chase and read a 23-Word tweet rather than read a 3-page sanctimonial missive.

* CJ Fuller died. Only 22 years old.

* Giggle every time I hear “ The Failing New York Times.” :joy:

Marcus W be the official name now.

* Never had any doubt KSR focused their appeal on a broad audience. Painfully obvious, BTI.

* Quick exit for A’s. But of course.

* Reds currently talking to Joe Girardi, among others. I’d be very happy with a great managerial hire, but there isn’t a skipper on the planet that can overcome that pathetic rotation.

* Jury Duty day #2. Ugh.

I can’t imagine spending all that time working thru law school, busting my *** to pass the bar, and being buried in student loan debt, only to get a job making $27,000 a year to waddle into the courthouse every day in a Jos A Bank clearance suit to send someone to jail for weed. Enjoy your lot in life, jackass.

* Avy Scott could have done more, imo. Big fan, but her career didn’t have much staying power.

* drxman comes to town this weekend. Had fun explaining that situation to the lass.

“So, it’s his friends birthday. His name is ‘Jonboy,’ and he has a boat called ‘The Dirty Slut II.’”

* Bring Your Bible to School Day in the Commonwealth!!

Oh to be a fly on the wall when Dr Boat and his biggest Florida man crush JonBoy get back together. To see those guys relive their Crab Island conquests, 300 yard drives, & Night Of the Roxbury clubbing stories is going to be a great way for you and your girl to spend the weekend. "Its ok babe, I'm a Doctor."

NY, Boston, LA, Houston, Denver, Cleveland, Atlanta, Milwaukee

MLB fans will have to watch all of these small market teams since they didn’t give the Cubs a free pass.

Not a Yankees fan, actually far from it, but boy that GD Aaron Judge sure does have a beautiful batters box stance.

If i ever have grandchildren play baseball, i will definitely try to get them to use his stance. I just hope he is not playing for the Cubs when that day comes.

Well he’s grown up a little, got married, renamed the boat, and doesn’t play golf. We never really clubbed in Destin, was more of a harbor bar crawl scene. Aj’s, Kj’s, Red door, Electric Cowboy...

But yeah it’s gonna be fun.

-the problem with sports(all for that matter) media/"journalism" is that most modern writers/reporters are opining on subject matter that that have no expertise or experience with...and often presenting it as truth or at the very least an opinion of substance. Maybe its always been that way and I am just picking up on it now.

-the revelation that most "journalists" are fos/pretenders coupled with unprecedented access to unfiltered/undistilled info renders these folks impotent...relics.

-bloggers and their "hot takes" are what passes for journalism. Its noise...and their opinions are often no more informed/valid than the avg person on the street. When everyone is a journalist no one is a journalist.

Journalism used to be (rightly) treated like a trade. Now they think it's one of the core liberal arts like Classics or Literature.
