Hmmm, poor defense is a pretty large statement. I don't think we're poor on D. We're awful at defensive rebounding but our guards have turned in some dirty performances. Bigs are just hit or miss game to game.

Anything beyond a Sweet 16 is house money, bub. I'll be elated. Might even be nice to lose an Elite Eight or Final Four game to a superior team. Something Cal has yet to do here.
I don't know how you can put a ceiling on anyone this year. It is a spectacularly mediocre field across the board. It's all about draw and luck - even more so than usual.
I mean, UK has - what - nearly 15 wins against the top 100? For a ****** team, that's pretty good!
Well, the top 100 is definitely ****** this year, but we can't really help that.
In the end, we'll have two of the best ten guards in the tourney. That's enough to win it all this year if things bounce the right way.

I never get the "house money" take on UK basketball. I'm never happy about anything but a Final 4. I suppose I'd be okay with 3 wins and an E8 appearance but I sure wouldn't be "house money" happy with it.
Exactly. If we get to the S16 or E8, and do so impressively...LOL at "house money" -- everyone will be jacked up and thinking we have as good of a shot as anyone, and rightfully so if you've watched CBB this year.

Think in my bracket pool I'll just write all seeds 1-9 in the Final Four with a footnote that it's "wide open" this year and sign "Smart Fan."

That '14 team just wasn't very good until it mattered. At this point in the season, they were worse than this one.
Had hat #1 (now retired) but preferred the version with "CATS" on it instead of "UK." I got that version signed by Ralph Beard (also a retired hat and on display).
There are probably 40 teams that you could tell me right now will be in the Final Four and I wouldn't be surprised about any of them. I just don't know how you could be.

After the two UConn debacles, the BJW in me feels like are due to "steal" one for once.
Other than the obvious reasons, winning #9 this season would be awesome because we would have a great chance of repeating, unlike in other recent years. If we win it in '11, Terrence Jones probably bolts and he was huge in '12. Win it in '14 and our super team from '15 doesn't come to fruition. Our team is going to be stacked next year regardless of what happens.

How can you make a "hard prediction," pre-bracket release, when absolutely no one stands out apart from anyone else? I mean, if you want to say someone's a favorite, I guess you go with Kansas. But, ****, it's Kansas.

That is right, he has zero losses in the Tournament to teams outside of the top 9 over the last 12 years. Yeah I get it laugh at him for Robert Morris, because that is easily the worst loss over the last 12 years of any coaches we have looked at. He is 10-9 against top 10 Kenpom teams in the tournament. Pretty crazy. Self is 5-6.

The day after we get the brackets I'm taking a ballpoint pen (blue of course) and writing in "UK" all the way to the final four. Then I'll do some research and write the rest of it in pencil.
