I made the decision to attend UK around 1986 at age 9. My first season watching all the games as a kid, and also first heartbreak in the Elite 8. Purely basketball related decision.

That was the fourth game against LSU

Sucked -

- The cost of UK wasn't all that surprising, given what we'd heard going into the process. What WAS surprising was how little they offered my kid in the way of an academic scholarship. She was a 4.0 student, GSP, all that stuff, and it actually would have been CHEAPER for her to go to some of the elite, out-of-state, private schools than it would have been for her to go to UK, one county away. That's the ridiculous part.

We had the "money talk" around this time a year ago, and she started approaching the search pretty methodically. Ended up at one of her top choices, debt-free.

- Big thanks to Max for his Smoke Justis recommendation a couple of months ago. It was the perfect place for Dad to post up and wait for the T. Swift show to end across the river, and I returned today to take my youngest out for my birthday lunch. Those smoked wings are unreal.

- I know Butter Pecan is an old man ice cream order, but that's my call 90 percent of the time. Respect my decision.

Nope. Each school is different.
UK offers a presidential scholarship for GSP that is competitive and there aren’t a lot of spots. That’s full tuition.

The other two levels for GSP are “selective” and kids get either $2500 or $5000 per year.

Yep have a nephew that is at Bama on a full ride in Engineering. Was a governors scholar, wanted to stay close to home. But UK wasn't giving dick.
My daughter is touring colleges now and I'm being told UK is working on losing all their smart in state kids. Hopefully it's being addressed. It makes no sense.

My understanding is that as a research school, a lot of money funneled there, so only A few high achievers plus minority/underprivileged get in on the s holly money.

UL used to give big bucks then started doling that out to more people in smaller increments.

How about schools like Murray, Morehead, NKU? Are they giving away money? What do they even cost?

The three years I spent at Chase were the most depressing in my life. Highland Heights can suck a dick.

Murray offered her a full ride. The only other in-state school she really looked at was Centre. And their scholarship offer was nice, she just wanted a bigger school.

There are something like 3 or 4 of her fellow GSP students who ended up at Bama, as well as a couple of top local students. Don't know if that's just a coincidence, a concerted effort by Bama to make in-roads in other states, or the @RibsAndWhiteBread Effect, but it's becoming a popular option.

I think NKY and NEKY should combine. Can do a day at Smoke Justis and a day at that Irish Bar just off the river in Maysville. TBH if we were actually to organize such a thing, away conference basketball games on Saturday afternoons would probably work well.

That’s the sort of thing you need to do in January and February, to get you through the day. Need to have something to look forward to. Kentucky Basketball is the only thing that has gotten me through a lot of winters.

Edit - Deone Walker for Heisman.

Double edit, as I listen to the crickets and enjoy this crisp weather, if ever so briefly.

I will not get mad at summer. I don’t mind the heat or the sun. I do have a lot of OCD over my plantings. I spend a lot of time making my place beautiful, and the coming stretch of weather will just be vicious. But we persist. And the best skills must shine.

My cana lillie’s are insane right now. I see people point and talk as they are walking down the Avenue.

There is some sort of cigarette boat convention in town. Have heard them running on the river constantly since Thursday. When I poured a bourbon at work at 4 on Friday and walked out on our balcony, there were all these cigarette boats parked in the Roebling District area. Park and Court were totally roped off. Was wild. What the hell would an offshore racer want with the Ohio River

Answer: hillbillies with money.

Saw this one boat with twin 425’s. That’s wild. I didn’t even know they made 425’s.

Really put me in my place, considering that I’ve been going back and forth on pulling the trigger on a new 16 foot Bass Tracker with a 50 Merc.

Guess I’m just a broke *** *****.

Quadruple edit - if anyone has a small bass boat they’d like to move, please let me know. Looking for aluminum and ideally 25, 15 or 9.9 horse.

I guess John Marshall Butler got to the 11th hole and realized he was about to play the masters.
Thought he was going to pull it out but he kinda fell apart.
Nice run though. Let's see what the future holds for him.

Should have stopped at the second hole. He got greedy.

Edit - guess I’m the only one up. Family fell asleep during family move night (Avatar 2 - it will do that).

Has anyone procured 15 HP outboard decals and put them on a 9.9? Reason I ask is that I’m on a small lake where anything over 9.9 is idle only. But I like riding wide open, even if that’s 13 mph. Five extra horses would be nice.

The engine block is a little bigger, but I don’t think with the proper decals any narc is going to notice. And if some loser game warden looked up my serial numbers, what is that? A 100 dollar ticket? F**k the game warden.

I am up with you, Duffy

I have a daughter starting her Soph yr & goes into nursing school in spring 24

The parking prices, penalties and meager options surprised me

Our hospital head of supply chain said last wk that UK is ranked 2nd nationally for best employer within higher education -

I also heard that UK cooks the books a bit with the posted claims of high national rankings attributing to hospital treatment centers etc

I know I LOVE it there - 5 months in and I am far happier and MUCH more engaged/motivated than Ive been in 10-15 yrs

I’m the weird guy who can’t go to sleep with marijuana. Gets me amped. Odd.

If I don’t drink, I may well be up to 5, reading newspapers. The more I live, the more I realize that alcohol really is a devil.

In any event, every window in the house is open. Low sixties and no humidity flowing.

Peace.

Gotta love those 3-4am still / paused hours out here --- that's unbeatable

Back to Clark Co this evening though - dead on 2 hour drive fm mom's

So - i also have to point out that my work envious is MUCH prettier & staffed with EXPONENTIALLY more beautiful ladies than Raytheon, Lockheed or Parker were -

University/Hospital funding is still a little hard to understand though --

I have four 6 rows up in the upper deck if you want those for free. You can have Missouri or Florida.

Shoot @WynnDuffy they’re up to at least 600HP boat motors last time I check with a cool price of around $80K/per. And these dudes will have 4-5 (quad/quin 600s if your cool)of them on their boat.

That’s why you’ll see these 25-35 year old smoke shows prancing around these boats, they know what these guys have.

-At the Cellar for brunch with pops and saw on the bottom line that Spain won the WWC, had not heard one thing about it since America was knocked out.

-Have been around Keno 1 million times but literally zero ideas how it works. I’m sure it’s simple by looking at the people playing it,
just never asked.
