Used to do gin buckets pretty regularly Wynn. Never did it with more than 5 people, never didn’t black out within 30 mins. Buddy from Pittsburgh introduced us to it. Good times. GOOD TIMES.
After my night of aperol I was wanting a switch. I’m not going to drink aperol spritzes multiple nights in a row I’m not a psychopath. Anyway it’s summer and I’m looking for something new and rum seems to have come up a time or two. I’m pretty clueless about rum so I dig around in my liquor cabinet to see what I had - had a Ron Zacapa 23 dark rum that was nicely decorated by a Guatemalan child and some RM Jhum white rum.
I don’t have mint or ginger beer so couldn’t do a mojito or dark and stormy so looked up some rum drinks and came upon the “simple daiquiri”.I’m not talking the put in a blender with ice smoothie dredge but an actual daiquiri the way it was intended: white rum, simple syrup, lime juice.
To make the simple syrup is quite easy, just 1 cup of sugar to 1 cup of water, bring to a boil until sugar is dissolved. I like to let the water boil a little longer so the syrup is a little thicker and sweeter. Squeeze fresh lime, can’t use the concentrate in a squeezer or it tastes like ***.
3 parts rum
1 part simple syrup
1 part FRESH lime juice
This is intended to just be a 3 oz drink so put in a shaker with ice till it’s frigid and pour neat.
Was refreshing. Not a favorite and still playing around with proportions but a nice, easy to make change up.
