This Cincinnati team is just special, man.

I don’t want to get ahead of myself, though. I’d like to check in with Twitter and see what sort of hatred and vitriol my buddy UKO is spewing at the Reds press secretary, bullpen catcher, AA affiliate pitching coach, and Spanish speaking radio color analyst before I confirm if it’s real, but I certainly feel like there’s something special in the air in Cincinnati.

The Cubs have stupid, little league looking uniforms, and that historic ballpark is a sh*t hole, filled with some of the douchiest "fans" in all of professional sports. The entire atmosphere of that organization is "douche" going all the way back to that illiterate drunk, Harry Carey and his self-aggrandizing pub crawls after home games; staggering around with that ridiculous GD banana daquiri of his, while eating up the sycophantic admiration of those douche fans.

I don’t share that same enthusiasm for this Cubs group. We’ll be sellers in a few weeks.

I don’t even know where to begin this rebuild as we dwell in .500 ball mediocrity.

I don’t know how Stroman would fair in GABP, but I sure wish the Reds are one of the teams calling for him.

Baseball is awesome right now:
  • The Braves, Marlins, Phillies and Reds are on fire
  • The Giants and Padres are coming around too
  • The Mets have a gazillion dollar payroll and they suck
  • Games take 2 and a half hours with a standard deviation of like 10 minutes.
  • Stolen bases are up
  • Some dude for the Marlins is hitting .400
  • The Rays and Orioles lead the AL East and have exciting teams
  • Ohtani and Trout might make the playoffs
  • The AL Central plus the A's apparently agreed to sit on a grenade to make all other teams / divisions look great
  • And lastly, Mookie Betts eats corn the long way

The interior of the sub:

They use a video game remote to pilot the thing.

I don't think there is ANY panic. I think it was a compromised hull and they probably died on Sunday.

Here's the kicker. Even if the sub surfaced and is floating around, they still might die, because there is no way to open the hatch from the inside. It takes someone removing the bolts from the outside.
They're never going to find that thing. If it lost power, with those currents, it could be 100 miles away. Complete needle in a haystack. And even if they DO find it down there, getting it back to the surface is unlikely.

-Audible books while in the sauna and cold tub really helps pass the time.

-This weekend I spent two days disassembling my cabinets and painting them white instead of that horrible 80s fake wood finish. It’s going to look way better.
Ripping out the bathrooms and putting new vanities, paint and fixtures in next.

Also, those stupid evergreen bushes, they gone soon.

-Spent damn near a grand between having to get a new garage door motor and an electrician checking some light fixtures power supply. Nice to know all that’s good now for a while though.

Homeownership!

Playing well and they don't quit...props for that, but you are way out over your skis with the accolades. That said, Bell's ignorance, their overall inexperience and lack of quality SP will catch up with them. They will be fortunate to finish no worse than 10 games below .500 come season end. If they finish .500 then Tony's on me next time you are here.

Also....your boy EDC has had 1 EBH in his last 41 AB's w/ 15 K's. That isn't going to cut it in the 4 hole.

You don't want to debate me on this, because you will be out of your league as you know, so I will just watch and see what happens.

UKO is The Paddock’s Toby Flenderson. A thief of Joy. Also, EDLC is struggling at the plate right now a tad. He’s still 21, making winning plays, and isn’t a fat UNC fan.

Righteous Gemstones is just fantastic. Unreal how it picked up at the end of S1 and hasn’t let up.

What was your first sign you made for a sporting event? Mine was Braves at Reds 1995. “Hey Dan and Keith, Put Me On Sportscenter!” My ignantass paid no regard to it being an NBC game.

If you’re a billionaire with all that money and vacations and stuff to buy and do, I can’t imagine taking a risk like that. Why? So you can say you saw the same thing I can see on the internet?

Just really dumb and the second you told me were sealing you in and it’s impossible for you to get out unless we’re there, yeah I’m out.

I went skydiving once and I was worth touch all when I did. I’m good in doing that again.

Poor Vern. Sadly I do know what I’m talking about. This piece milled roster is a sad effort for a large market team.

Not sure what is so exciting for you when we are clearly not a playoff team but have a rotation of 32-35 year olds, and the whole lineup will be gone from our team within 2 years, except Morel.

But this 8-2 run we have been on is fun, then you check and see we are still 4 games under .500 and that pace is not sustainable for this group.

Like I said we will be sellers in about 3 weeks. Our prospects have some promise so we will absolutely be looking to flip a few 30+ year olds for more.

On another bright note for the reds, they are expected to get Rhett Lowder with their #7 pick. Lowder is the ace for Wake Forest and rated the 2nd best pitcher behind Skenes of LSU.

I find it absurd that you would design something like this w/o any possible way to remove the hatch from the inside. Am I off base here? Doesn't that seem monumentally stupid?

Speaking of stupid. When I was just a tiny 5 year old clown, swimming at Spindletop, I thought I could "scuba dive" by using a half inflated beach ball for air. "I can breath the air in and out from this, and stay under as long as I want to." I think it says more about the lack of supervision by my Mom, than my judgement, that I stayed under long enough to get really dizzy/sick and vomit in the lap pool.

I’m good with never going more than 3 or 4 feet below the surface of any body of water for the rest of my life.
Yeah Ive been scuba diving before (not legally because I wasn’t certified just out with buddies) and they all wanted me to get certified so we could dive the Vanderburg which is a sunken military vessel right off KW.

Same friend told me how he was diving the Vandy one day and has video of it, where he and our buddy got lost in the ship and ended up in pitch black darkness with no flashlight. They had to just keep feeling their way through the boat for about 15 minutes til they finally found daylight again and could get out. Just watching the video makes you start to sweat and get clammy.

I said TOUCH THAT brother, not happening. On the video you could see both of them starting to breath rapidly as they began to panic a bit but played it cool enough to get out.

It’s all nonsense. These billionaires live in a fantasy world. Look no further than the total waste of time, money and energy revolving around Kelly Craft’s campaign.

Fine, toots. Run for Governor. Here’s the capital you’ll need.

Joe Craft looks at the camera.. She has no shot but marriage, Ha! Plus, ***he pulls down his shades***it’s a tax write off.

- One of my father in law's retirement gigs is ushering at Reds games. If you've been at GABP in the last decade or so, you've definitely chatted with him, because he's never met a stranger and he somehow knows every human who has ever lived in the greater Kenton-Boone County area. Great dude, loves baseball, loves his Reds.

And that man HATES Cubs fans. He has nicer things to say about visiting Steelers fans at Paycor.

- I've done the "tour a WWII battleship/submarine" thing, and that was more than enough for me. The heat, the claustrophobia, the crushing weight of the ocean? Absolutely NOT. I'm not sure you could pay me $250k to go to the bottom of the ocean in a sub. Same for cave diving. Those people are absolutely out of their minds.

Sadly, no you don't. You're one of the casual fans that Anth was referring to. The Cubs had to totally restructure the way they operated, from the farm system on up. When Epstein first arrived, the strategy was draft bats and acquire pitching in free agency and through trades. And it worked initially. It brought Chicago it's first World Series in over a century. Then the decline began.

The lineup was too reliant on home run hitters. The pitchers began to age. And some of the trades didn't pan out, namely the Jose Quintana for Dylan Cease and Eloy Jimenez trade they made with their cross town rivals. All the while, no pitching was being developed in the minors. An overhaul was needed.

So they traded away all the guys that were brought up through the system and helped bring the Cubs a World Series. This was key because all were due contract extensions, but all were also entering their 30s and on the decline. Even pti will tell you, handing out big contracts to guys in their 30s hardly ever pans out.

These moves helped replenish their farm system. They completely overhauled the pitching development throughout the farm system. They brought in Carter Hawkins from the Indians, an organization that specialized in developing their own pitchers.

Of course, Epstein has left at this point and Hoyer takes over. He states from the moment they trade all of their aging stars that this would be a reboot rather than a reset. It would be a dual process of restrengthening the farm system along with bringing in quality free agents each year.

The first year they add Stroman and Suzuki. They struggled most of the year but finished strong and finished around .500, when many expected much worse. This year they added Swanson, Bellinger, and Taillon. During this process, other guys have been able to play every day and emerge, namely Happ and Hoerner. Christopher Morel is starting to provide some power to the lineup. Michael Tauchman has been a pleasant surprise. Justin Steele has turned into an ace. Kyle Hendricks is back and rounding into form. Sure, we're still around .500, but we've had injuries and guys are finally getting healthy.

The last two drafts we've added a couple starting pitchers who are doing very well in the minors in Cade Horton and Jordan Wicks. Through the trades, we've added more quality pitching prospects in Ben Brown and Hayden Wesneski as well as promising position players like Pete Crow-Armstrong, Kevin Alcantara and Owen Cassie.

Are we there yet? No. But we're definitely on the right track. And we'll be in position to add more quality free agents next summer. We'll be in play for Ohtani, especially with Suzuki recruiting him. This transitioning has been a frustrating process, but it will begin to pay dividends in the coming years, if not this year. Just watch.

It makes me think of guys like Alex Honnold, bros know they’re probably going to die for their hobby/adrenaline rush because everyone else has before them but they keep doing it. It’s almost like they want to die honestly.

Squirrel suit bros as well. That would be the ultimate rush like you’re basically flying but they’re all testing the grim reaper’s patience.

Could you imagine the money Trout would’ve put down if you told him, “Hey Mike we have a Japanese pitcher coming in and he’s a better batter than you, wanna make a bet?”

He’d have probably put his entire salary down on that bet.
