Magloire52, I just finished the Pete Dominick thing and it's one of the best political conversations I've listened to. 👏

Too bad you don't respect HVAC kingpins as much as you do coal miners.

Lots of uncle love around here lately. I have a good one in the hospital right now. Unvaxxed just like nearly everyone else I'm related to. Hope he makes it out and it's a wakeup call for the rest.

Usually don't mind it, but August 2021 has been a trash month around here, weather-wise. A damn cauldron. Combine that with everyone I know having some kind of illness and the dragging anticipation for football, and it's just been straight-up sucky.

I like the first month of the MLB season and the last month. Can't give a **** about the rest, even if I try.

Bunch of guys I play baseball with in Nashville just got to go up and play on the Field of Dreams this week. That one is moving up near the top of the bucket list.

If you really want 100 and humid, come on down here to south Louisiana. As a matter of fact, it’s usually “only” in the low 90s in the summer, so it may be too cool for you.

But give it a whirl anytime. I very strongly prefer hot over cold, and also know you people are completely FOS. August in particular is completely miserable.

Been in low to mid 90’s every day in Siesta Key since May and can’t get enough of it. It’s perfect. Also, coming off a 1 year stay in Massachusetts definitely solidified I don’t want anything to do with winter ever again.

There’s absolutely no break from the heat, though.

I just got back from a New Mexico/Colorado roadie, and at altitude it was routinely hot as balls in the sun, but very comfortable once you stepped into the shade.

Meanwhile back here — you can step outside at 5am in the pitch black and it’s a hot dark sweat soaked oven. High today is 90, so you’re happy with an extra 10 degrees on top of that? FOH. I’ll take it back, you’re not FOS, you’re just incredibly psycho and completely stupid. There’s nothing enjoyable about 100/humid at all. Psycho.

Don’t want a break, fine with it. Have not had to wear pants one day since moving down here in January. Haven’t had to wear socks or shoes with exception of when I go running, which I do at 1pm (hottest part of the day).

Anyone who says they love 100+ (or even 95 ) heat indexes is either lying, or a true psychopath.

As far as I know, only UKO (latter) & Anth (former) fit that mold in GYERO.
Not lying, and psychopath at times....but this heat is just fine. Is it is the perfect weather, of course not, as I feel for those who can’t tolerate it, however, it sure as hell beats the alternative ...*winter*

I'm probably, coming at all of this from a different perspective than anyone else in here, because I'm, you know, OLD. Having The Band etc., and well, pretty much MOST classic rock force fed to me for most of my life, I'm just burnt out on most of it.
If you feel it was force fed then you never appreciated it in the first place.

-there are dudes everywhere that can "play all the notes"... appreciation of virtuosity is great, but it ain't the end all be all. Songwriting is more important. Vibe is as important.

-ex: jack white has had a far greater cultural impact than bonamassa or Eric Johnson. Is he a more skilled technically? Nope...but far more important. Cobain wasn't a great player...but far more influential than any modern "blues" guy. Music like all art should make you feel something...bonamassa makes me feel like having a ham sammich, not necessarily a bad thing.

-if you like that modern blues sort of thing...Marcus King is the truth.

  • To be clear, I stated The Norlan is ‘supposedly’ the chosen glassware for hot or overoaked whiskey... I cited Jefferson’s Presidential 16 or EC18 as an example to some that it made a difference. I haven’t cracked my JP16, but when I do, I’ll chime in if there’s any difference in experience.
  • Krazy, lemme know when you get more of that honeycomb. Hope Bralow reaches out soon.
  • Taking kid to pool after some batting practice. Summer is the best and it ain’t close.
  • Weather (rain) has been so ****, that my wicker deck setup was barely cracked.
  • New front door, shipping container pool home projects next up.
  • 2023 Nissan Z is a hot little whip
  • Saw Son Seals and Matt Guitar Murphy at Kingston Mines across from Cabrini Green... Blues. shew. Going to see Tedeschi Trucks then Marcus King in Oct.
  • Having a monster party on 9/4. Come on by.
  • TripHop Acid Jazz House on the Sonos.

- Anyone **** talking Steely Dan can fight me.

- Donald Fagen's voice is extremely weird, but it fits the Dan perfectly. They didn't need a shiny virtuoso for a vocalist when all the other musicians were guys like Larry Carlton and Bernard Purdie. The "slick" is offset by Fagen's voice and the lyrics.

- I have been done with the heat for a month. I am tired of having all my clothes magically change colors every time I step outside. I am tired of sweat dripping eyeliner into my eyes. I am tired of putting all my clothes directly in the washing machine when I get home at night. My gym isn't air conditioned and it was 92 degrees in there last night when I arrived at 6:30, and it felt "cool" by standards of that building (yes I know I could just...not go, but lol). Absolute misery. Bring me fall.

In b4 PTI calls me a fat for being this level of sweaty.

- Speaking of fall and fats, my entire social media feed is white people posting Starbucks pumpkin spice whatever today. I drink my fair share of overpriced burnt coffee, and I want NATHAN to do with a) hot drinks or b) pumpkin spiced or flavored anything while it's this damn hot. FOH, whites and hens.

- Drummers: Stewart Copeland, Keith Moon, Bernard Purdie.

- GYEROLAW Criminal Defense = Wu Tang Financial in my head canon.

- I have admittedly never been much of a baseball fan. The Orioles were just outside my home base and my dad hated Peter Angelos, which means so did I, and the Nats moved in just before I moved away. And without a team, it's not a fun sport to watch on TV, especially when the majority of your childhood sports watching was 1990s UK basketball. But I love this Reds team and I actually enjoy baseball on television now. I assume this means I'm ready for my AARP card, just like Joey Votto, but he's playing like he's having a great time so I'm good with it. I am also aware they are cursed and will break my heart, but hey, like that's any different from the abusive relationship I've been in with UK football most of my life.

- Stevie Ray Vaughan is the GOAT on 6 strings. Physically powerful with tons of emotion. The guitar is part of his body.

- Drums? Don't know. I hate Rush, but Pert is obviously skilled. Carter Beaufort makes all kids of different noises on a drum kit at the same time that seems difficult to do.

- The 3rd and 4th week of August always sucks. That ain't new, baby.

- UK Football is going to have some issues as long as we keep recruiting like we are. There's a reason some of these guys that have transcendent talent didn't go to an annual powerhouse. Too many red flags. So we send in the Big Dawg and do what we can. I get it.

- I did not like Mags posting the Lou Moore fight on his twitter account. Not sure what the point was other than trying to go viral. Also - and probably more problematic - how did he get access to the video?

I listened to the Gene Deal VladTV interview about Biggie and all that stuff. I suppose it’s fairly new because I never seen it before.

Then I went back and listened to some old Biggie raps that aren’t as common , and I’d go out on a limb and say Born Again is better overall than ready to die. Obviously Life after Death was far and away superior to both.

@pretzel__logic :

- I have never had a PSL from Starbucks, but I'm going to do it this year.
- I agree with your Steely Dan takes - wouldn't change Fagen for nothin' - but would love to hear Peg or My Old Shoes with say Michael McDonald (who did sing on Peg) do lead vocals, just to get a feel for what it would be like.

Oh, I liked it then. WKQQ was about the only option. And they weren't stretching the box, playing deep tracks, exploring other forms of music (why would they?)

But after I've heard Freebird/Stairway to Heaven (one of the worst songs ever recorded by a "legit" act), The Wall, nameless Eagles song (they're mostly variations on 3 basic songs, just like The Boss), Dream On, scores of times, it kind of loses it's appeal.

Unless you're a dullard. One sign of a low intellect is a lack of curiosity, and a marked indifference towards repetition.

So, yes, force fed is a pretty accurate description, if you were listening to the radio from the mid 70's and 80's

I know it's always fun to poke fun of "it's not the heat, it's the humidity" but my experience is that is spot on.

I lived in west Texas in 1986 (San Angelo), and it was 100 by Easter. I had a POS Honda civic with no air (and, PTI, manual windows) and it never bothered me, no matter how hot it got, and by July it wasn't unusual for 108 by 2:00 in the afternoon. The one downside was that the pool in the apartment complex stayed like bathwater. It was a trip though. I'd get out of the pool, towel off, and by the time I reached my second floor apartment (overlooking the pool, so it wasn't far) my suit was damn near dry.

I loved living there, and if my family circumstances would allow, I'd sell my house and move back there. My only bad memory was losing to f***ing LSU in the Elite 8.

Maria Taylor posting this on Instagram right after the Rachel Nichols news came out was pretty funny:

Actually that was a complete *****/douche post. Imagine causing someone to lose their job, and in this case a show that RN built, and gloating about it on social media. Plus, what Nichols said wasn’t even that bad. She was only trying to protect what she had built and basically called out ESPN on their biases.

Imagine in your workplace your boss comes to you and basically tells you “thank you for what you've done but we are going to replace you with a person of XYZ race because we need to diversify.” I’m sure she will land somewhere else, hopefully, but to celebrate it is ********.
