Can't really say I have a favorite drummer. If there are a bunch of complicated, showy fills, I'm not into it for the most part. I happen to like the pocket. There's a reason the two best bands of all time have drummers that are just "okay" in Watts and Ringo.

I'm into guitarists that stand out, however, although not the ones that do it by playing the most notes. Been into J Mascis and Kevin Shields lately. Jeff Tweedy is underrated, and better than Nels Cline, IMO. Technicality be damned.

Football content has taken a damn nosedive with fall camp ending and buzzkilling knuckleheadery taking over. Sept 4 cannot get here soon enough.

Got some Mizzou tickets for the 40th bday. Heading up that morning and will have some time to kill before check-in at the AirBnB. Lunch/brunch recs in Lexington and surrounding areas are welcome.

Also got a Norlan glass. Used it for some ECBP last night. Jury's out.

- Brett McMurphy's first round of bowl predictions has Kentucky vs. Kansas State (the wildcats vs. the wildcats!!! lolz) in the Liberty Bowl. Zzzz.

The SEC is affiliated with the Las Vegas Bowl now. Heck, even that bowl down in Houston would be a nice changeup. I'm not going to the game (ir)regardless, but still....something outside TN or Charlotte would be nice. HAVING SAID THAT....I think we end up in a Florida bowl game.

- I appreciate Mrs. S calling out Wayne because now I know what Wayne looks like. Chalk that one up as a poster who doesn't look the way I expected them to look. Meanwhile, I look EXACTLY like you'd expect me to look.

- So Randolph Morris can come to the local cross country meet last night, but Booker Noe stayed home instead of coming to watch his kid run.

- When the most intriguing thing about your team being featured on "Hard Knocks" is a drone shot, it's not confidence-inspiring. Good luck this season, Cowboys fans.

- That drummer for Def Leppard can do with one arm what nearly all other drummers can do with two. ADVANTAGE: Def Leppeard

- Always got a kick out of "Leonard's Losers" on the radio as a kid. Guy was like Paul Harvey mixed with Paul Finebaum.

-Glencairn >>> norlan and it's not close. Heck off, Kooky.

-The vid is rolling in Ky right now. Stay safe wildcat friends. Encourage your friends to get poked. Still got 3 people I'm nagging daily and really worried about.

-While pulling G's backpack out of the car I busted his nose, right in the middle of car line, of course that turned into a **** show of blood and snot while I try to get him back in and moved over the a handicap spot. "Stop looking at me like I abuse my kid, Susan."

-Figured the supply chain and materials would've improved by now. Unfortunately, not any better and don't see any light at the end of the tunnel.

-Blackberry booked for next year. Pumped. Clark's recommendation holds a bunch of weight but a place that specializes in great food/drink, fly fishing, cycling, bourbon? Caint effin wait.

-How shady was that side room at Gambino's?

-The relief of hitting the couch with a high proof bourbon, after work->dinner->wrestle kids to shower and bed, is palpable.

-Had a helluva time at the Stones Concert @ Churchill Downs. That was back in the early crew days. Same day we got Angus, iirc.

-Those new LR Defenders look pretty dope.

The Stones are probably my favorite band of all time. They kept evolving and created depending on the song, era or album a beautiful mix of rock, blues, original r&b, jazz and even a dash of old school country.

Their sound had an abundance of soul and for a bunch of chaps from England they made some music like a bunch of brothers. Same thing with Elvis.

I need to watch that Muscle Shoals documentary again. So many all time greats made albums in that tiny town in Alabama. Keith and Mick acted like the place was magical.

-Huge Band fan as well. RR be damned, he was/is a dick. But he did have to put up with 3 of the other 4 being strung out most of the time. So I kinda get it.

-Although it was just one performance Michael Shrieve on Soul Sacrifice at Woodstock was out of this world. Have heard many other live versions and none come close to the spectacle he put on behind the kit that day.

-I'm obviously biased but Carter Beaufort is always ranked as one of the top drummers by industry critics. Man can still do it flawlessly at 62.

One of my favorite Band related anecdotes is that Levon Helm refused to perform “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down” after he left because he hated Joan Baez’s version so much.

Now, It is possible that the real reason was a songwriting dispute with Robbie Robertson. But the Baez red *** story is more entertaining, so I choose to believe it.

I'm probably, coming at all of this from a different perspective than anyone else in here, because I'm, you know, OLD. Having The Band etc., and well, pretty much MOST classic rock force fed to me for most of my life, I'm just burnt out on most of it.
That's a pretty good take and being MUCH, much, much younger than you... I feel ya. This is made worse with rock pretty much sucking *** in the last 20 years.

I remember the first time I heard that song (or at least noticed it) from the Band... I was at Charlie Brown's in Lexington. Thought it was very unique and cool - and I went home and downloaded it on Napster. Then I saw that Joan Baez had a version so I downloaded that too. Barf... that song was straight trash.

Gyero and nuance...

.....as a drummer that's the first thing I pay attention to in a song/band. And Watts was fine. Nothing flashy, nothing special. Never laid down a beat or did a fill that would blow your skirt up or take more than 30 seconds to figure out how to replicate. And I'm pretty sure he would have told you that as well.

However it didn't matter because it fit their style perfectly and like someone pointed out with Ringo, allowed the real geniuses in the band to showcase their brilliance.

Look forward to the onslaught of posts from people who can't move all four appendages independently while keeping a beat to tell me where I'm wrong.

My buddies hit up the Midnight Rambles a few times. The ability to listen to Levon, in a barn, drinking cold Budweiser, he takes a break, chat with him, was an experience they will never forget.

Anyone that likes good music needs to watch that documentary. Amazing what those honkys accomplished in that little town.

🎶Muscle Shoals has got the Swampers, they've been known to pick a song or two...🎵🎵

I saw the Stones the first time in September of 1989 at Cardinal Stadium in Louisville. Great show. They were thought to be "old" then.

I turn 50 this year. Love rock music. The classic rock bands and their members (Beatles, Who, Stones, Zeppelin, etc.) are like classic baseball players to me - Ruth, Mantle, Mays - etc. Just legendary names, unimpeachable in their reputations. Some of this comes from the fact that the Baby Boomers constantly preached that rock music was "better" than traditional pop music, that is it could "change the world."

But here's the thing. Younger people (including some on this thread) seem to have no affection or reverence at all for these classic rock musicians. Rock is just another genre, and one liked by old people. It may be that years from now none of these rock artists are remembered. Maybe the Beatles and Dylan. But not most of them.

Saw a meme the other day on IG that said something to the effect of "In 40-50 years, it will be like, "Hey, meet my Grandpa Brayden"

Was both funny, and sad -- i get things evolve...but, just something about those classic grandparent/great & great aunt/uncle names.

Mine: Stanley, Charlotte, Eugene, Ruth, Sue, Adrian (lol), Delores, Bob, Maxine, Emiline, Harold, Gloria.

Parents are Stuart, Christine, Uncle Ben...

...and Preston (my stepdad), which is funny b/c that's almost considered a meme prep name now. He's a lifelong farmer, and the biggest good ole boy/salt-of-the-earth unpretentious redneck on planet earth.

What is the first letter of Preston's last name ? If it is who I am thinking, he is close to my age, couple years younger I believe. Did he hang around with Skip, Chris R., Travis, and Brian B. ?
