Who cares about Sharpesucka?

* The former Japanese prime minister was murdered yesterday while giving a speech. Not surprising to me that unlike Louisville, the Japanese could actually efficiently pull off a political killing. Gonna assume they won't let the suspect bond out, either.

Japan and Haiti have now had leaders assassinated in the span of exactly one year. Scary times, man. I sense a great disturbance in the Force.

* This speech has made me obsessive about making sure I make my bed every morning immediately after I get up. My wife has gotten into the habit, too. Over the years this habit has served me very well. No matter how terrible a day may be, there are few simple pleasures that are more satisfying than sliding into your own freshly made bed.

* For my money, Tim Dillon is currently the funniest person on the planet.

* I'm not sure if The Clown is practicing BBdK's musical challenge or getting into mid-season redass form to ***** about Cal's spacing and lineups.

TyTy was great for us before injury, had like 25 points or whatever against UT at Rupp and was starting to blossom before he got hurt and then started look really sharp again against Florida before getting hurt again. Not really agreeing with the Cal hate on this one.

- Vecenie is not a fraud. He’s the best in the business.

- Again, in college, these guys can’t drive like they can in the pros because you have defenders taking dives on every play and hack officials rewarding it. You can thank Coach K for making that a fashionable way to play defense.

If that's the case, then your boy should recognize that instead of acting like it's a Kentucky only issue. But I stand by my statement and am in agreement w/ Anth. TyTy looked like that pre injury. That's lazy analysis by Vencenie, imo.

Or when our head coach making 9 large a year will figure this **** out.

I guess you can look at it that way. You can also look at it as a sign Cal knows how to develop pros. It’s not like Booker, Herro, Quickly, etc were bigtime surefire pro prospects before they got here.

Cal’s hit rate is a pretty damn strong. I think too often it gets framed the other way.

I don’t call a guy a fraud based on a disagreement or that he may be wrong on a particular point. I look at his overall analysis, which I have found to be really good.

He’s not my boy. He’s just a pretty good basketball writer.

Cool. I disagree with his analysis in this particular instance.

Was Sam Vecenie talking **** about Gonzaga’s offense after Chet’s first Summer League game? If not he can kindly STFU
He's been talking **** about the lack of spacing in CBB in general.. Sometimes he gets too cute. But for the most part, Vecenie is usually pretty solid. He's hundo on this spacing take, too.

As for Gonzaga, I see a lot of arm chair quarterbacking now that Chet is going off in summer league. No one has been a bigger proponent of Chet than me, but I don't have any issue how Few 'featured' him at Gonzaga, considering the roster makeup. Timme was (is) an amazing college basketball player, and they absolutely should have run their offense through him. They averaged over 90 PPG, had a plethora of weapons and were a ton of fun to watch.

Booker didn't go from a YMCA-league prospect to the 13th pick in the NBA draft in just 6 months under the great one's tutelage. My guess is the eye popping 10ppg/20mpg only solidified what was known when he got to UK....he was 1/done/lottery (in other words...he was sorely misused but it didn't matter) Maybe if Cal had set up more for him than the heat check 6 shots against Wisconsin, then 2015 might have turned out differently.

I completely agree, it’s just I feel it’s more a general lack of spacing and being able to feature players in college basketball as a whole and don’t agree with criticizing Cal for TyTy. I absolutely think Cals offense is outdated and needs improved but in general the way defense is called and played in college and the fact there is usually 2 unskilled/limited perimeter skilled players on 99% of college teams makes it difficult to feature players the way the NBA does. It’s just unrealistic to expect the same type of offense in college than pro.

It's much easier to average 90 in the WCC. When they ran into Arkansas in Sweet 16, they put up 68. I don't disagree with you regarding your Gonzaga take. Just wanted to point that out.

I listen to Vecenie's pod from time to time...he's actually very pro Cal.

He may be regurgitating some old takes with TyTy but he's not wrong in the macro. The problem with Cal's offense and spacing has less to do with the actual offense (which was dynamic at times last year) and more to do with his lack of consideration to spacing with his lineups and sub patterns.

I would love to see a breakdown of healthy TyTy's efficiency when he was playing with at least 2 or 3 other floor spacers. Wheeler brought some really nice things to the table for us last year but I don't think he helped TyTy's production.

Honestly, that is my major criticism of Cal last year. After the 2nd Vandy game, Cal said something to the effect of thank God we don't play them again, alluding to their physical style.

He pretty much announced his team's biggest weakness. Their reluctance to play physical, with the obvious exception of Oscar and probably Toppin as well.

Teams began to play us more physically. That's when we began to struggle. If you want to criticize Cal's response or adjustment to that style, then I won't argue. But I think it had more to do with a lack of toughness we had as a team. I'm looking at you, Grady and Brooks.

When the offense was clicking, the spacing was fine. The ball was moving. We were getting points in a variety of ways. Nobody on here was bitching about the offense when we were kicking the living **** out of UNC, Kansas and Tennessee.

I think this is a tougher group. When the style of play becomes more physical throughout February and March, I believe this group will respond better.

Friday randoms:

-My boy is getting sized up today for his first set of helmets and pads, picking out his jersey number, and we're going to get cleats/gloves/etc after that. It's better than Christmas right now. Puppies sent to the first kid he gets to fire off on because he's been ready for a year. That plus him being the size of a 6th grader going into 3rd grade should make it interesting.

-Been in the market for a boat for a while. Based on online postings increasing dramatically the past 2 weeks the bubble is popping as we speak. All the Covid-bored boat buyers are getting smacked at the gas pump, the year 2-3 maintenance, life returning to normal, and expendable income evaporating has made that boat market heat up. Gonna be some nice choices in a few months.

-Hit the Barbasol yesterday. We splurged for a cabana but it was still hot as hell on that 9th green if you were in the sun. As someone who is new to the game it was a great experience to watch pros come in all day, some hitting amazing shots, others needing 2 to shots to get out of a bunker out of fear of hitting it in the lake.

-In the market for an office chair, what's the Gyero go to?
