Still don’t understand how Kansas can be above us in any measure. The computers like us more. Now the humans like us more. The court showed absolute domination.
Old habits die hard. Defaulting to Big 12 > SEC.

It's been said by others, but worth emphasizing. This team will thrive outside SEC play when referees are reminded that freedom of movement is a priority in the NCAA-T.

The only way SEC teams have closed the gap on UK this season is by turning basketball games into wrestling matches.

I know the Gladys Knight version was first but it's just a pop song. The Marvin Gaye version is one of those songs you hear and feel the desperation and takes it to a different level. The CCR version is ok, you can tell it's the Gaye version he's trying to emulate by making it darker but Marvin's version is the gold standard.
This version with the vocals isolated gives me cold chills.

- Thanks. Good to be back.

- Tough season for me this year, gang. Could be my last one as a HC for a while. Going to focus on developing my son a little more. He should be a nice role player/shooter for a squad around here in about 3-4 years. I've always told him that I'm not sure I could coach him in varsity. I've seen it ruin so many relationships and/or draw the ire of ignorant locals. So we'll just see which way the wind blows.

Our season breakdown: Buncha BS led to a roller coaster year. It was the most mentally draining December and January of my professional life. But we rallied in Feb around an "us against the world" theme, hosted the district tourney with high hopes, won that first round game by 20 BUT . . . had my top 2 scorers turn their ankle in that game. Ended up playing the Final without my 2nd leading scorer/starting point guard, plus my best player/leading scorer was about 75% on a bum ankle. But wait . . . there's more! My 3rd leading scorer turned his ankle in the 2nd half of that same game because why not, right?

Needless to say, we lost the Final (played their guts out to only lose by 10 - was closer than the score indicates - but we just couldn't score). Still made Regional though! We got a favorable draw for once, went to work with those 3 guys listed as questionable/limited, but didn't know if the pg could even dress/play. He did play! But he was only at about 60%. We were down for most of the game but we rallied behind our best player putting us on his back. He made a 3 to tie the game with under 10 seconds left and we just knew we were going to get over the hump in OT and get the win. But then the opposing team hit a last second 3 to end it. That was their 2nd three of the game. 2-10 as a team from deep. The kid that made it? You guessed it - his first points of the game.

'Eff this sport.

Anyway, I'm responsibility-free for a Friday and Saturday for the first time since early October. So I've got that going for me . . . which is nice.

- I think the Cats are pretty good but not transcendent. I love their chemistry and team makeup. Loveable dudes. They've been a joy to follow while I've wallowed in basketball hell this winter. I'm not as confident as some at their chances to cut down the nets, but that doesn't change my heart. If they pull off #9, this is an all-time team in terms of the way they've endeared themselves to the fans. Love to see it.

- I've got a winter's worth of randoms to drop, but they'll have to wait. Looking forward to the future!

- Booked a trip to Scottsdale with the Lass for next month. I’ve never been to the desert. We’re going to do some hiking on Camelback Mountain, horseback riding, relaxing at the resort, and I’ve convinced the Lass to hit up a dispensary to get some choice edibles that would create a desired buzz tailor made for what you want. The shopping and dining options look dece as well.
You'll love it, but watch out for the jumping cholla. Those MFers got my wife in Saguaro N.P.

The answer obviously is Dominique Ferguson
[laughing] at Billy Gillispie throwing John Wall out of practice on a recruiting visit because Wall's cellphone went off while Billy Clyde had commits from Ferguson, Dakota Euton, Michael Avery, Hunter McClintock, and other versions of basketball AIDS.

What a dark time.

* Hank's Favorite Cayts:

1. Delk
2. Cousins
3. Sparks
4. Miller
5. Ulis

Oscar and Wheeler could get there with a second year.

* Ritchie's jew lawyer buddy ain't wasting a minute of billable time waiting for Ritchie's WASP *** to get to the court, imo. Don't blame him, tbh.

* I don't think I could ever be more hyped than the Wall, Cousins, Bledsoe, Jon Hood class. After slogging through the later Tubby years and Clyde's dumbass, it was incredible to have news that was too good to even believe seemingly come ever day.

Remember when everyone watched some low-rent webcam on a Memphis news station of a damn door for hours while we were waiting on confirmation that Calipari was coming?

Is "Accepting UK's offer" the same as "Got into UK" or does the include some additional scholarship packaging?

I may change how I refer to my ending up going to UofK... I know I accepted my KEES offer, at the very least.
  • Lifetime Alumni Legacy - IN STATE TUITION as my *** sits in NJ
  • Bluegrass Spirit Scholly awarded - $50k
  • Several other Schollies applied for (6), which he should qualify for with his grades/test scores
  • Chemical Engineering / Pharm focus where UK has competitive programs.
  • hey, free undergrad
  • Halcyon era of football

so that, or $280,000 Wake Forest undergrad debt (but cool mascot).

The 2007 recruiting class is a WTF all-timer -- Patrick Patterson, Alex Legion, AJ Stewart, and Morakinyo Williams.

You've got PPat who will always be a beloved Cat who represented the university with absolute class... and then a kid who was (allegedly) Eskimo brothers with Gillispie and had a mom who claimed to a prophetess, a guy who ended his career at Rogers State University, and a guy that Gillispie allegedly called at midnight while drunk and said, "You're fat, Mike -- you've got tits" before banishing the poor guy back to jolly old England.

That's like a terrible Pauly Shore movie or something.

I feel that’s right up there up with “Tell that N-word Tubby I’ll be there later” in the annals of UK lore.

Dawg Carruth may have sold meth and been an absolute ******** but woofing at Coach K while draining Js will never, ever stop being incredible.

And then there's this gem from the KSR wayback machine:

Hunter [McClintock] has played basketball with Dwight Perry and Jared Carter (when he lived in North Carolina) and knows some of those guys well. If he doesnt receive an offer this summer, he will attend Patterson Prep High, but he is hoping to go to a school this year and it is clear that Kentucky would be a presumptive favorite. I can tell you that Bobby Perry has been raving about the kid for some time and it looks like the UK folks are getting interested.

Bwhahahahahahahaha at "Bobby Perry has been raving about the kid".

I'd pay way more than I should for a tell-all Gillispie book and/or documentary. I remember hearing the stories thinking "this has to be exaggerated gossip". Turns out a lot of it wasn't.

Pop tarts
Bathroom stalls
Walking home
Drunk golf
Banging player's gf
Conditioning before games
Kicking out a generational recruit for not silencing his phone
Recruiting and taking commitments from children

...and there's more that I'm missing

That guy was something else.

I’m going to go out on a limb and say Dawg’s invitation to Tubby’s HoF induction party was misplaced.

I wonder what fine correctional institution he’s gracing with his presence these days.

I appreciate what Mitch has done for the athletic program with Cal and Stoops and some of the non-revenue sports. But the Billy G hire was so, so bad. And the joker one wasn’t great either. So I hesitate to call him a “great AD except for those two hires” like I’d hesitate to call someone a “great parent except for the time they left their toddler in a hot car”.
