Wanting to make it so isn’t enough.
We lost to Tulane year 10. Facts please

You're either young and don't know all the bad years or just don't like Greg. He wasn't a great coach but he was good and checked most of the boxes for what we needed and gave us hope every year. Where is the hope now? We need a salesman like Greg to get the alumni and recruits excited again.

Time. To. Move. On.

Geez...Greg was a good to great salesman, a good recruiter, and an average game-day coach. Our recruit rankings, particularly in Greg's later years and relative to our peers, was actually quite good (thx Wanny)...and yet, Greg couldn't cross the finish line. Let that sink in! If he couldn't outperform then, with superior athletes and a watered down schedule, why the hell do folks think that he'll magically do more with less?!?

Without him and Mulcah, we might not be in the B1G, which certainly deserves a debt of gratitude...but has exposed our AD for what it truly is and has been for decades - Big Time in name only.

He probably wouldn’t want the job. But at this point if it’s his only realistic chance at a P5 job he might take it.

The guy use to recruit his *** off. IDK if he still has that energy. He’s no spring chicken anymore.

Maybe he would be happier going to a FCS school. Just enjoy life and have fun coaching. He should have plenty of money in the bank.

Nope. I’m not young or old and know all the good and bad stuff. From the highs of LVille and USF(fake number 2) to getting blown out by average teams. Loved my trip to UConn in year 11 to get blown out. How about losing to Tulane in year 10? Or the depleted booing crowd agains USF when Deering single handily won the game. People in Yellow lot were ready to burn his house down that night.
Remember the awesom stadium expansion dedication game? He was perfect for what we needed at a time. A micromanager who could get us to respectable. Again, his D’s st OSU haven’t even been as good as Ash’s.

Yes he asked about the opening when we had it. We rightfully said no.

And how has that worked out? Especially in recruiting?
It’s working out just fine. Why don’t we see the plan through. Not only is the team improving but money people are buying in with a great practice complex and new locker room. I watched this game with a HS cosch yesterday and he continually said “despite the score this team looks so much better than last years”. We had true freshman covering 1st rounders. As I’ve said since last December, the next 6 weeks will tell us where we are.
Again, if you watch other teams play you will know this isn’t a Rutgers thing. Go Check some box scores.

I flew across the country for the first game in the expanded stadium, opening day versus Cincinnati. Yeah he really put together a tough team for that effort. The game was over in about four and a half minutes and that wasn't in year 3 of a rebuild, that was a decade in, and that wasn't Ohio State, that was Cincinnati.

it comes down to recruiting and Rutgers recruiting is in bottom three of B10 last three years. You cant scheme your ways to wins in B10 east, wont work. Until RU first improves line recruiting on both sides of ball, and then adds more skill players, starting with WRs that can catch a ball, then there will be improvement.
We shall see how 'fine' its going by end of year #3,the current acceptable measuring stick for a new HC.Right now,Ash must win the next two games to keep recruiting going in right direction.Loses to Kansas and Buffalo might produce another Hobbs statement.

Schiano could occasionally recruit a great player and was able to get a lot of guys into the NFL. But we're not a farm team for the NFL. And in the end he never won anything of any notoriety except a string of third and fourth rate bowl games.

The difference, here, is you don't even get to a 3rd or 4th rate bowl game with 3 wins! But you guys all keep telling yourself Ash is the answer as the embarrassments continue.

If Greg actually wanted to come back, it’s the biggest no brainer decision in RU football history.
Some of you on here would actually consider telling GS “we appreciate your interest in coming back to be our head coach, but no thanks “

Lol...that would be all time stupid, worthy of having ones Head examined.

What’s more embarrassing? Losing by 50 to a team that will win by 50 at least 5 times this year or losing to Tulane in year 10?

You keep mentioning that game, it was a rebuilding season and then Eric's injury.

Now that we're in the B1G and have much better resources, Greg would build this program up to where it can be

I dont know where Ash will take us, maybe he will be a failure, but I know for certain Schiano would not take us to great places in the Big Ten. I watched him lose game after game for years that he should've won. Some of you guys think Ash should be competitive with Ohio State and Michigan. Meanwhile Schiano couldn't beat West Virginia, ever, even in his best season, struggled with Connecticut, got dominated by Cincinnati and had Rutgers as one of only two teams that never won the Big East. No way would he beat OSU, PSU, MSU or UM or even Wisconsin. Find another name to obsess over.

I am absolutely willing to give Ash the chance to win 5 more games this year

And I did not expect to be competitive yesterday

Far, far more galling were the showings against EMU and Indiana last year

That said if Ash get not get it done, GS makes a ton of sense.

His recruiting momentum was undeniable and he would easily be a Ferentz type here, winning 4-10 games but usually 7 or 8 which in our division would land us bowls we dream about.

Simply laughable to cry about the 2010 season when even before EL was injured who was it that left our OL totally depleted which ultimately forced Savage out again?

Lol. Eric’s tragic injury has nothing to Dom with losing to Tulane. If he was half the coach and recruiter you guys make him out to be he wouldn’t need a rebuild in year 10. If he did he still wouldn’t lose to Tulane. How about barely escaping FIU in their HS stadium

Who was co-OC in 2010 again

That FIU team actually had a winning record. Right now Ash has one win against a team with a winning record (Purdue)

Yeah 2010 totally is not an outlier yet somehow it was the only year after 2004 where we did not go to a bowl game

Well sh$t he squeaked by a sun belt team with a winning record a decade in. Let’s build a statue. Yes we made third rate bowls for finishing 3rd and 4th in a watered down Big East. You guys are crying about Ash. schiano managed to give up 55 points as DC at OSU. But he’d make us respectable against the big boys. Too rich.

Didn't Schiano's defense give up a ton of points just last week to Oregon State? With OSUs talent? What would happen with a lesser squad?

First, I don’t like agreeing with you this much. Lol
Second, it’s a lost cause. It’s amazing how they forget what this board was like in his final years. Majority of people wanted him run out of town. Now he’s urban Meyer.
He won 6-8 games beating 3-4 cupcakes and splitting games against cuse, UConn, USF, etc. that ain’t happening with this schedule.
Also, I’m not defending Ash but the revisionist history is amazing.

1) Greg left us for the NFL...DO you want your ex-wife back after running out on you?
2) It was a much easier conference where 3 star players could dominate...We couldn't beat WVU and had a few loses that we shouldn't have..
3) RU poured a lot of money into the program during the early years..Similar to current, yet the bar is higher and competition is more difficult in BIG10..

I like Greg but I think it would be a step backwards for him if he came back in 2 years. Does anyone think the RU job is better than Tenesee?...It's not..
If Greg wants a challenge, I'm sure Kansas or Vanderbilt will have an opening soon or a AAC team and he can rebuild at those schools. Would he be offered the MD job?..I'm sure he would take the UConn job after this year..

Give it a break. He took the worst team in D1, created a winning program and excited a pro sports state for some years. He made people proud to wear Rutgers gear and we were no longer a laughing stock. You know damn well he would recruit well in the Big 10. You also know that our program was on a significant upward trajectory in 2011 and 2012 recruiting wise as we were killing the Northeast teams for recruits we normally lost out to. In the B1G, Greg would do very well.

No use even talking to them. They have no reason why Ash is the answer yet will deride any and all alternative suggestions or possibilities.

Some people are to ignorant to understand the second GS declared his return here, every talking head from every sports outlet in the country would immediately scream the guy who built the program and the sole reason they’re in the B1G is coming back.

The entire state would feel a sense of excitement and recruiting would immediately pick up, season tickets would increase and an air of here we go would permeate the program.
Incredibly, they have no idea about perception and the importance of it at this time.

No, these people would rather bring up a Tulane game from 2010...lmao

Because hype is nice but results on the field are what matter--and games like Tulane are the results you would get once the hoopla dies down.

I miss Gary the Defensive Coordinator (unless we were playing the spread of course) . Gary the Head Coach? Pass.
