I get so sick of people saying #1 class this, #1 class that. Number one recruiting classes are great, BUT THERE IS NOBODY TO GO WITH IT!! We have ONE mediocre player (who could and should get better) coming back. That’s not enough! As of right now this is a very incomplete team regardless of recruiting class ranking. We’ve had #1 or 2 recruiting classes the last five years and look what that’s got us. We absolutely need some continuity in this program
When I think about eating first--you go through the line first and pick whatever you want. Everyone else has to take what you left behind. That used to be the case in recruiting. It's not now.
We're losing guys to Georgia and Washington. Georgia/Washington is picking up the Filet and leaving us with the Ribeye. It's still great. But we didn't just walk up there and take what we wanted.
Correct. And not all number one recruiting classes are the same, see 2013. It appears that we have only two difference makers coming in while the other guys may take some time to adjust. That won't cut it when you have to replace your whole roster. If we get a third difference maker like Kuminga or Brown then this approach can work. But it looks like we'll have to pull a rabbit out of a hat from somewhere.
Well if you are so sick of #1 classes maybe you should go root for a team that is say #100 in a recruiting class and you would feel all warm and fuzzy then right?

Yep swung and missed so many times we just have the #1 class and our best since 2013. [roll][roll][roll]. If you are counting a kid going to the home town school or the g league a swing and a miss I don't know what to tell you .
Also we have zero need for Brown . We literally have 4-5 PF on this team. Brooks Ware Toppin Fletcher ( who is a combo but will play some PF ) and Jackson who is more of a center but can play the 4 too. We have the most PF on our roster we ever had since I started paying attention to UK in 93 . We have zero need for a kid him . We need some who is either 6'11 230 or 6'8 245 who can average 7 and 7 for us. That is all we need.
What is so funny is there are like 50 different posters on RR who this exact thing applies to. It's like they are posting from an alternate reality where UK still has BGG coaching and recruiting . You would never know we win more games since Cal has come here of any major conference program and recruit at a higher level then any program in cbb history sans UCLA in the 60's and early 70's .
I think everyone here is right to a degree. While we are still obviously able to procure the most talent annually, we are also not able to fully build a complete roster like we were in 2015 and before. It appears we are always missing a piece or 2 these last 5 years. And it's no coincidence we haven't made it back to the final four in that time span either. I don't think people are necessarily upset with the players we are bringing in or are saying they want someone other than Cal, but they are a bit frustrated that the first 5 years we were able to pluck almost anyone we wanted, now we are having to scourge the grad transfer market and possible reclass pool for leftovers. And even they are passing us over. I think it is okay to be concerned and mention it, while also still supporting the staff and hoping they can get back to how things were.

My opinion is you are clouded by recruiting class numbers, and don't know a lot about team building. I feel sorry for you, that your natural response is to call people trolls, non-fans, ignorant and who knows what other nasty things you have to say about UK fans. I know you're lazy because a review of my posts shows that I am pretty defensive of UK (I couldn't care less who the coach is), and I'm not a Cal Slurper. Brown is a tall, very skinny wing. Elite player but. He’s not what I’d call a big.
I think his point was that #1 recruiting classes isn't the end all be all answer for everything. Is getting top talent great, absolutely. But that's no guarantee of being ready for a deep run in March.
Yet yr in and yr out Cal has the Cats in EEs, FFs, Title games and has won a title.
Minimum of EE 7 of 10 yrs and Covid 19 hit or it would have been min of 8 of 11 yrs.

I couldn’t care less what that poster thinks regarding my response. It’s clear to anyone with eyes and a brain what he is—a troll. He doesn’t even try to hide it it’s been obvious since day one.
