In my son’s case, the tumor was in an area that affected his memory and cognitive abilities. So he was prone to erratic behavior and questionable decision making anyway. He was normally pretty good at understanding that and keeping it somewhat in check, but it was like he said ‘F it, whatever happens happens’ for those 5 weeks. This is such a great example.
Like I said, I do not think Arik should be free of consequences, not at all.
I just feel that the NCAA lame asses that, for some reason, were unable to look at a piece of paper over the course of like 6 weeks, need to be held accountable. It is not like they were unaware of the season getting ready to start.
And it is not their place to operate from a place of "questioning" ones reasons or motives.
It is there job to look at a file and say yes/no. But they did neither.
People with mental issues, no matter what those issues are and in your sons case, stress, anxiety, fear (I would imagine), well, all of that just gets amped up when you don't know.
Gilbert was essentially in a "waiting room", while waiting to hear news from the doctor...only the doctor never came out to give him information. That is brutal.
That 100% does not excuse his actions, not at all. It does though make the NCAA dorks accountable for THEIR (lack) of actions.
The NCAA has made all kinds of decisions on cases like this and there was already a pretty good precedent set. So why suddenly drag their feet on this one out of the blue? And they wonder why no one has any respect for them anymore.
