Definitely. They have mediocre guards. Duren is a limited offensive player. Bates is a heck of a talent, but he's physical immature. I don't doubt he'll be a star some day, but right now he's not good enough to carry a team that lacks top level guard play.
Duren is very over rated as I've said all along. Duke got the best big in the 22 class . Bona is a project aswell

I think he’s over rated like Boston, he’s probably a player who hit his peak early. Physically immature but I don’t know think he will be the chosen one like they predict every class.
He’s physically ready but lacks skills. He has potential because he can improve on basketball skills and already has the frame. Big men take longer to develop. Banchero was by far the best big man. That should have been easy to see honestly from limited scouting.
It was a clinic in late game coaching gaffes. Penny's use of his timeouts was laughable until I saw Crean take 3 timeouts to get the ball in front side court. I guess Penny thought a frontcourt time out would advance the ball but this is college.
If you can't beat Georgia, you're not gonna beat very many teams in the SEC this season. Memphis has some talent but they're not NBA ready talents like Penny had with Wiseman and not even as good as Achiuwa. These guys are going to struggle. They will be competitive in the American but not much outside that. I'm just wondering when these recruits are going to figure out that Penny is a lot of empty talk who can't coach himself out of a wet paper bag.

I had the same thoughts. Don't know that I've seen 3 TO's used without a successful inbounds pass before.
Banchero isn't a big man and he was in the 21 class. Banchero is very similar to Jason Tatum. I could see him playing sf in the NBA
He’s more of a mobile PF, I consider PF’s big men but at that point it’s subjective. Still say he’s the best big man in the class.
Poor Penny, the players abused his trust again.
Memphis is playing an SEC-heavy schedule this month.

I get it now. With Oscar here Cal didn’t think he’d have minutes for both. So he told Duren to spend a season at Memphis but to sabotage their season to get back at Penny for Wiseman. Then after the season he transfers here which solves the big man problem for next season (although next season could be a breakout season for Toppin as well).

Yeah, I've seen that one before. I guess they thought it was funny? I don't know man, but it looks really creepy to me. I don't really believe Crean is a perv, but he has managed to get caught on camera enough times with some strange expressions to make someone wonder. With that in mind, why would he want this picture on social media? The red lighting makes it look very strange right off the bat, and then the expression on Crean's face just makes it even worse. If I were Tom Crean, I never would have allowed this picture to get out.

I really liked him as a player and the Lil Penny commercials were fabulous.
That's all down the crapper now with his horrible coaching and the fact he continually blames everyone else. Including throwing his players under the bus.
When he misses the tournament or flames out round 1 this year, I don't see them getting many more recruits. Fed Ex ain't gonna keep ponying up $$$ to lose.
