Haha i think basketball is a lot more simple than people try to make it. If I were a coach I don’t think I would run my offense much different than coach pikiell’s. If you look at the nba most of their offense is about high ball screen action. Sure they have some sets but at the end of the day you want to create a quick disadvantage for the defense and then make a read. Honestly our Purdue game that i was dissecting is a perfect example. We did high ball screens and ghost screens the whole second half while they ran a bunch of complicated sets. We still won.
i also think it has to do with personnel. Realistically the guys we had on my team the last 5 years probably would not be able to run Purdue or iowas system. Didn’t fit their style of play at all. And pikes knows that which is why we played the way we did. I do think he may have to switch it up this year at the end of shot clock. But Paul and cliff in a ball screen action seems about as dangerous as any set any team will draw up. Paul is going to make all of the right reads off of it.
