Better pray Martinez stays healthy
Exactly. I don't fault TG feeling like **** right now, that's understandable. I hope he also understands that nothing is over yet and he could be the guy within a series. One tweaked ankle, busted arm, whatever, and he's out there starting.

And not only that but if he lights it up in games, he can benefit from that policy of "just because you're back healthy doesn't mean it's automatically your job again."

IMO his best move is to stay put, get his PT this year in the rotation, and bank as many class credits as he can. He can have better options to weigh if he's got some good stuff on tape.

Wow, it usually takes a few games for a kid to bail out. Wish he’d stay the whole season and see what happens.

Sure he just needs to rethink things, he has said that he loves it here so yes it would be disappointing if he left...

I encourage all Huskers who go to church to put Adrian Martinez on your churches prayer chain to stay healthy! :)

As a pure playing time decision, personally I'd tell him to stay put for the year. You're gonna play at least some at NU this year. If Martinez pops an ACL or develops a habit of chucking it to guys not wearing the N you're gonna play a ton. You'll play zero at any new school you transfer to so why not get on the field.

Hope he stays and doesn't make a rash decision. The starter has played a down of college football yet, and I would this TG will get his chance.

This is why its important to sign two quarterbacks in every second or third year. Half of all D1 quarterbacks transfer from their LOI school. That means in 4 years you would have only 2 quarterbacks on average. That is if you dont have any walk ons or transfer ins. Too important not to back up your back up.

going forward you need to recruit a QB every year with the understanding that likely only one of the 2 will end up staying. You probably need at least 2 years of separation between your starter and the next projected starter and even that may be too tight. Your backup either needs to be a freshman subbing for an upperclassmen or a game manager - Bunch will need to be serviceable.

Best of luck to Tristan in making a smart decision.

I think it's a poor decision to skip practice at any juncture.

I'm a Crouch fan, he made a bad choice to go home as well, look at how that turned out.

Agreed....on skipping practice. I also believe it is important to tell a kid face to face that he did not win the job.....especially one that has also worked his a$$ off in a close race.

Leaves, sits a year and then has to compete for a starting spot if he goes to a program of note. Someone mentioned the the Pirate's offense would be a good fit for TG.
The kid sat last year and would have to sit another year if he goes to another BCS school. The grass is always greener, but chances are he'd have to compete with one or more QBs at his next school.
Settle down, get over the butt hurt and get some reps in relief of AMart. One injury away from being the guy, and if the competition was as close as reported, a couple of bad series from getting put into the game.

Because if he leaves now, and goes to a school that hasn't started classes yet, he can use this year as his transfer year. Plenty of schools on the west coast haven't started classes yet.

Still think we should have tried to bring in Terry Wilson. He earned the starting job at Kentucky:

I’m surprised. Didn’t seem like the type of guy to throw in the towel and abandon his teammates. I don’t mean this as criticism, it’s just that he always presented himself as team first and I believe he is, as evidenced by his becoming a good friend to his main competition. I wouldn’t blame him for transferring. But I almost suspect the decision wasn’t handled in the most political way possible, or maybe he thought he outperformed AM and didn’t think the decision was fair. In any case, I am speculating because everything TG has shown about his character up to this point makes this a surprise to me.

I was assuming this would be his ineligible year.

Well, good thing we stayed away from Joe Burrow. Nebraska stayed 100% drama-free by doing that. </sarcasm>

He'll start for LSU on Saturday.

This is a bad look to go out on for TGeb. All that team first, I’ll have his back if he wins the job talk was all bs. Scott picked the right guy to lead the team.
The situation for Gebbia versus Martinez are completely different. Gebbia has already used his redshirt year. IF Gebbia had been named, Martinez wouldn't have even considered transferring IMO. Gebbia has a tough choice. Somebody out there is in dire need of somebody with his skill set. IF Gebbia leaves and Martinez gets hurt, we're screwed. Bunch looked good in the spring game BUT clearly Frost views him as a significant drop off at QB. After Bunch it's a walk on true freshman QB...then....crickets. Mazour?

He's essentially deciding over a year of football he can play, as he'll get three instead of two if he leaves now. Going left coast makes since given TG is from CA. Given this behavior from TG, it seems he might realize that if he can't beat AMart now, it's probably not happening this season and likely not in any subsequent season.

The timing is a big deal. He has to figure out which schools haven't started classes yet, which schools might have a scholarship open. Which of those schools.

If he sticks around a year as a back up, he then has to sit out the next year. That would only leave him two years of eligibility. back up RS FR, sit out next year, plays RS Jr and RS Sr year.

If he leaves now, sits out this year, he would have RS soph, RS jr and RS sr year.

How a situation like this is handled may be more important than just naming who won the job. I'll just say that Gebbia is not the type of kid to just quit because he did not win the job right now. Hopefully, it doesn't matter anyway and AM is just that damn good and never has an injury.....hopefully.
