This a rundown of my thoughts on the state of the program and why I think Frost will be retained barring blowout losses to Wisky or Iowa.
As frustrating as the Frost era has been, it is undeniable that we have improved the overall talent level and competitiveness of the program. We have the talent to compete with anyone in the country save the SEC elites.
I am not presenting that as an excuse to keep Frost based on morale victories and close calls. I am just stating facts. The defense improvement is undeniable. Offensively.. well I'll get to that next.
The Martinez effect is what ultimately makes this team an enigma. Take years of proven win predicting statistics, football strategy and throw them out the window because we have a QB that defies all logic. I could write a book on the mystery that is Adrian Martinez but I'll try to keep it as short as I can
He keeps us in games against good defensive opponents because he can mask terrible offensive line play by making an incredible scramble or long pass play.
He keeps bad or mediocre teams in games against us because he is wildy inconsistent with his accuracy and almost plays worse with a clean pocket.
He ultimately loses us most games with poor decision making, missing open Wrs, turnovers and being not clutch at all in big moments
This perpetually makes us competitive because his raw talent is usually good for a few unexpected scores but his inconsistenty will never allow us to put the 4 or 5 scoring drives together that we need to win games.
Couple this with unexplainable running back rotations, inconsistent oline play and schizophrenic play calling. And the offense is a cluster f*** of epic proportions.
What we need to do? Blow up the offense. Replace nearly everyone on the offensive staff. Do something different. Try like hell to get a transfer portal QB and move on from Martinez. Or at least open up the competition
I think we will make some changes to the scheme and offensive staff and Trev will give Frost another year. I just worry we won't change enough.
What we need to do is blow up the offense and start from scratch from approach and scheme.
I don't know if I like it but I think we are looking at a staff shakeup with a one year window to get to a bowl game or its over. I would like to see the whole offensive staff go but I'm not sure we'll see that.
I see a light at the end of the tunnel eventually for this program. Frost may not be the guy to lead us there but it's coming!
GBR! Let's go beat the eff out of Wisky and Iowa!
