It’s impossible to compete with Santa Clara’s unlimited NIL!Really good points! We went after some good bigs in high school this year. Kid from Minnesota, Ahneman 6’ 10”, good shooter, perfect for Fred’s offense, goes to Norte Dame. Also, kid rom Texas, Chukwudebelu 6’ 10, athletic big, goes to Santa Clara. We try but no success.
I heard they gave one player $4 millionIt’s impossible to compete with Santa Clara’s unlimited NIL!
What is the administration not doing to support the basketball program?
Now you’re talking! It appears they are committed to basketball but just to the wrong coach.Prioritizing basketball. You wouldn’t understand cause you don’t watch basketball. Michigan State was just playing in the B1G tournament and Barto was talking about how frustrated Tom Izzo, Michigan State administrators and fans are that they haven’t been to the final 4 since 2016. Izzo described it as unacceptable. This a program with 5 final 4 appearances and a national championship in the last 20 years.
Our administration allows average to below average coaches to grift them for large contracts and then they always extend their contract without justifiable results to do so. We then keep them around for years too long because we extended their contract without zero results. And keep in mind, every coach we paid top money for went to a lower level of D1 after being fired from NU. And all of them sucked even more against lesser competition, complete failures. So there you have it…
Our administration isn’t committed to hiring the best coach our money can buy, and they’ve mismanaged those ****** coaches contracts and tenures. Why do you keep asking these questions like you don’t think I’ll have a good answer? Especially when I destroy your veiled assertions with each answer I post. And why do keep asking these questions when you admittedly don’t care about basketball?
There’s a legitimate reason why nobody else is asking these questions (other than you) in this thread. And it’s not cause they don’t care about basketball.

Where does Fred’s salary rank in the conference?

Where does Fred’s salary rank in the conference?
Fred’s salary (4.75 mil) is ranked 5th in the conference and 15th nationally. Unbelievable! Now you’re talking! It appears they are committed to basketball but just to the wrong coach.

We’re good! I’m glad we finally got to the point of putting some blame on the coach instead of saying the administration isn’t supporting basketball. Also no hard feelings about this conversation. I’m currently very frustrated and pissed off about this season’s epic collapse. And I probably let your questions annoy me more than they normally would.

Yes.Nebraska not even making the NIT? Did I hear that correctly ?
Wow what a spectacular collapse. Go from 8/9 seed with 4 games to go to not even making the nitYes.

Wow 10 pages!! Can I get the Cliff's Notes?
CBI to see who’s the tallest midget.. or maybe local ymca tourney to go against a bunch of guys in wheelchairsFred said we’re going to post season. Then where?
I think his original contract gave lots of time and kind of hand cuffed the administration. The extension was robbery. But that’s one of the most direct ways an administration can support a sport. Be self aware, know who you are and how much you need to spend to accomplish your goals. Then don’t get married to your own decisions, hold that coach accountable, demand results, don’t prematurely extend their contract and then fire them when they don’t live up to expectations. Also a public push for NIL funding would help, like they do for football and volleyball.
Administration is not in absolved from blame in this situation. They don’t put enough pressure on basketball to perform. They don’t think they need to put in the same effort into bolstering NIL contributions for basketball. They don’t hire the right coaches, the prematurely extend their contracts and then their too cheap to fire those coaches when the writing has been in the wall for years.

But hey, I’m sure this doesn’t take into account that he’s a “great fit” and that Grandpa coached at NU.
Are they basing “popular with fan base” with the fact we rank 13th nationally in attendance because Husker fans would show if Red Panda or Frisbee Dog performed.Fred made yet another Most Overpaid list:

The Crown.Fred said we’re going to post season. Then where?

Also you have to have 7 scholarship players on the team to play in it.The Crown.
Don’t know why they keep making up these tournaments.New tournament that they just created this year so more loser teams can have a meaningless consolation prize. I personally find all these “other post season tournaments” insulting.

I figure the most likely outcome is that GG plays, scores 40, and then transfers to Iowa or Creighton.Any chance we don’t have enough to qualify? We all know they are gonna get worked and sent packing in the 1st round. If they couldn’t get up for senior day against iowa with everything on the line they ain’t gonna do **** in Vegas.
The lack of motivation is enough of a reason to get a new coach. Got up for ranked opponents but when it came to bottom 1/4 of big ten it wasn’t there.Any chance we don’t have enough to qualify? Would Chucky Hepburn have made us better? How much did we offer him? Obviously not enough. IMO he would have made us a tournament team. Far better than any of our "point guards".Either that, or we could just keep repeating the story about BYU giving a kid $7 million and conclude that there are no good players available - PERIOD!
We had other deficiencies besides point guard, perimeter shooting was terrible.Would Chucky Hepburn have made us better? How much did we offer him? Obviously not enough. IMO he would have made us a tournament team. Far better than any of our "point guards".
I get it but the fact is he got a LOT out of that crew last year. I'm frustrated too. I don't know how we get the talent to NU we need because we clearly didn't get it this past year. I just don't think bringing in a new guy would change anything and we're pot committed with Fred. I believe that was intentional. All the AD cares about is winning enough at home to fill PBA. My expectations after watching 50+ years of Husker basketball I admit are pretty low. Fred gave me some hope last year. They were fun to watch but the team was like a group from the Island of Misfit Toys. Somehow they won. This year not so much. I can't get to home games. I'm not in the locker room or at practice. The only thing I an see is the product on the floor. The transfers we brought in weren't good enough to replace the guys we lost. The one guy I expected more from this year was Juwann. He would have a great game and the next game he would be absolutely horrid. His inconsistency killed us without Mast to take up the slack.Fred made yet another Most Overpaid list:
