You do absolutely everything you need to to keep him. His agent is soooooo happy right now.
I don’t know man. I’m not saying he is going to SC but I do think he is entertaining the idea.
Y’all are going back and forth and making very good points on how this Wild West model isn’t sustainable in general for college athletics.
When all this started out it was like, what’s the big deal, players should get paid, and now, it’s like, holy bleep, how the crap are we going to fund this without a few resident billionaires?

Right and the solution in theory is pretty simple. Just put in a cap.
It’s very simple but the NCAA has no teeth or manners of enforcement. The only way to do that is to do what none of the suits want and why this is the way it is which is make them employees with the same collective bargaining structure you see in pro sports.
Meanwhile, in trying to play this untenable game for really two major revenue sports, you eliminate opportunity across the board for kids that excel in track and field and things like that bc universities can’t keep up. Many are cutting sports or have some big time fat cats but in general across the college landscape, many more people are getting screwed than benefiting.

Correct, that's the stated goal for the athletic department. That's a significant amount of new money flowing to the baseball program. We did a story a year or two ago in which Forbes noted that NIL deals were primarily used to cover tuition costs so players wouldn't graduate with student debt.

ECU's athletic director on if the school will fully fund rev share: "Obviously, ECU, we’re going to be well under the cap. And I don’t anticipate us ever getting to the cap." In ECU's situation, it doesn't even need NIL, in theory, because it can use donations to help reach the rev share allotment. ECU is also only funding 25 scholarships for baseball.
So, it’s probably a pretty fair assumption to make that ECU isn’t spending more on its roster than UNC?
she's shown just about as much as Forbes has, maybe slightly less - her local contemporaries are just more nationally relevant so a casual fan's impression is worse. if duke and state baseball were as good as their wbb programs we'd look at the two coaches nearly identically
Here is my point if Carolina is funding 34 baseball scholarships and giving revenue share to baseball players then no NIL money is needed to cover tuition costs and thus less NIL/ revenue sharing goes further as the players do have to use money to pay their school bills?
I guess it's possible, but I'd imagine unlikely. It was last summer that Godwin was on social media accusing P4 schools of tampering with his players and lamenting the broken system of NIL.

No way you believe this. ECU been getting drilled and not having the ability to keep guys out the portal.
I disagree that she has shown as much as Forbes. Forbes has had 3 straight seasons of a top 5/top 10 type team, each year with a drastically different line up than before. He has 4 supers, 2 ACC championships, an Omaha appearance and the 2024 ACC COY since he took over in 2021. CB has been here since 2019 and her main accomplishment is what? 3 sweet sixteens. And if we’re talking local contemporaries- State, Wake and Coastal have all had deep runs in Omaha in the past 5 years.
We have an endowment in excess of $500 million that covers our cost of athletic scholarships.
Multiple things can be true
- Forbes has been more successful than Banghart
- Banghart is accomplished and has done a great job lifting the women’s program back to relevance
- They both deserve to be supported
Yes! And when we get that email we need to respond by giving! The only question really is why we have to wait for the ask when we already know the need?

Super Regionals and S16s might as well be the same thing; it's 16 teams in Supers. And the gap between the top ~5 and everybody else in WBB is a lot bigger than that in baseball. In the last 10 years, the worst team to win a championship was... #6 overall Notre Dame? whereas in that timespan there have been 2 MCWS champs who didn't even host a regional.
The challenge really comes in the last bullet point, because baseball and women's basketball both lose a lot of money each year. Baseball had a $2.1 million deficit in 2024-25, while women's basketball was $4.4 million, according to UNC's financial report. So what does support look like for programs that have been net-negative for decades? It's a difficult question, especially when there is good fan support for both programs.
Extremely difficult. I’m personally happy with the 50/50 split currently because it appears that it costs more to retain/recruit talent in basketball currently. So, while it’s even in raw numbers it’s not truly “even” with context.
However, I understand why some might think baseball deserves a bit more due to their success.
