You don’t need to take from women’s basketball or any other program. Baseball donors need to do their job.

Baseball doesn’t generate a profit, so it makes sense why they don’t get a ton of rev share. Donors step up.
I differ there, right much. I think the more successful the program the more money you should receive (outside of MBB and FB). IMO we support entirely too many varsity sports.. I know that’s not popular but I think eventually if we want to compete at the top of MBB, FB and Baseball we’re going to have to cut some sports regardless of what conference we end up in.

Why would they give more rev share to women's basketball? Baseball needs more money in revenue sharing no doubt. Greg would know is UNC funding 34 baseball scholarships? If so that's huge but if there is 800 thousand dollars available in revenue sharing then at the very least it should have been split evenly between baseball and women basketball.
Almost 100% that all spots on the roster are now covered with full schollies....

WBB and baseball both have phenomenal leaders who have built winning programs and strong cultures. They also both need more donor and fan support. Both are incredible season ticket values. Stop hating on WBB and go check out a game at Carmichael. Just like the Diamond Heels, the ladies are well coached, play hard, and are easy to cheer for.

Is that the metric deciding who gets rev share? Because women's basketball loses way more than any program on campus. It's that way in most ADs.

Why outside of Football ? They fail over and over
okay they make money-but ussually they contribute to the " common good" less than Basketball (mens)

I can see the argument for baseball receiving more than women’s basketball, but the reason women’s basketball loses more is because women’s basketball is just more expensive to maintain. They need more money to be successful. They lost 2 key players this offseason simply because they couldn’t afford to keep them.

Yeah I agree that some of the smaller sports may need be cut but as Greg Barnes has said, it doesn’t really make sense to right now because it doesn’t cost a lot relatively to support them.

The revenue figures are pretty identical.
Why is it more expensive to maintain? 15 players vs 34.

It's more expensive because colleges have chosen for it to be.

Probably so but that’s not something that will change overnight.

Women’s college basketball is currently more popular than college baseball; thus, the NIL market is higher. More NIL/rev share is needed to maintain a successful women’s basketball team currently.

I don’t think he leaves, there isn’t a guarantee he stays. There’s a risk or he would have already shut it down. Maybe UNC shouldn’t take the baseball program for granted.

To be fair, I don’t think a reporter has asked him about it. He’s said plenty of times he hates social media, so I don’t think he pays much attention to what rumors are swirling online.

I have no inside info regarding Forbes saying/going, but I wouldn’t be concerned about this.

He’s a Carolina guy through and through. They’ll figure out how to keep him happy.
My wife is a little carolina grad & we live outside Columbia. If it is not bad already enough down here, this would be a gut punch. I have been obsessing and sick on my stomach since reading the news. I want to focus on tomorrow afternoon.

Oh I see I wasn’t supposed to bad mouth Banghart. She’s been here since 2019 and has absolutely nothing to show for it. I guess she got Hapring though…

To be fair, while she hasn’t had as much success as Forbes, the women’s program was in a terrible state when she took over. Also, women’s basketball is very top heavy. Unless you have a lot of money, it’s hard to compete with the established programs at the top.

Hosting multiple tournament games and making it to 3 Sweet 16s are still great accomplishments when you look at where the program was prior to her taking over + the resources she has.

I am almost 100
Percent sure Greg Barnes wrote an article a while back saying Carolina was fully funding every sport. If Carolina is fully funding baseball that would be the full 34 scholarships.

MAYBE, BARELY. And really only because ESPN and Vegas has continued to try and shove something that is not very entertaining for most sports folks down the general public's throat. I don't have any ill will toward women's bball at all but I hope ESPN goes bankrupt like NASCAR did trying to use supply side economics to promote it.

And will close by saying we need to figure a way, ANY WAY, to give Coach more than $500k in NIL or this run is going to be short lived and he could leave for the same reason O'Connor HAD to leave UVa. Lack of support for baseball. ECU has more NIL than we do. ECU!

People are acting like we didn’t get a $9 million donation this year. I’m sure Coach had some say in how a gift that large was going to be allocated. The program is moving toward operating out of its own endowments budget, which is coach building for long-term relevance and stability.

If just one thousand Diamond Heels fans give just $100 each that’s $100,000 more to baseball. Would that help?

Source for ECU having more NIL?

He did and Tommy had mentioned as well that FULLY FUNDING scholarships for baseball was the BIG DEAL. They get no rev share... but c'mon.. do you actually think SC baseball is taking rev share away from Football. It's a finite pot.
NIL is a completely separate discussion and UNC has a fair amount of NIL funds available to Forbes. I am not aware of Forbes being unable to bring in transfers due to NIL issues.

They get 250k from rev share, but you’re right, it’s not like the SEC schools are taking away money from football/basketball or even women’s basketball to give to baseball.

They’re able to fund baseball better because they’re getting greater contributions from their donors.

Yeah I agree women’s basketball gets a lot more exposure due to the marketing it gets.
