Fitzgerald suspended for first game...

I really could not care less about Stephen F. Austin. We could win that game if we had to plug in Jaylen Mayden the whole game. The issue is Fitz being ready to make the calls and reads in a brand new offense in live action the next week against Kansas State. By the same token (comparing to Boobie), if Aeris Williams was sitting out this week I would have zero concern about him being ready the next week. Just very different positions especially given Fitz got no real live action in the Spring either.
You can't tell this group anything that will make them feel better about KSU. For some unknown reason, they have risen to the ranks of Auburn or Georgia around here. They are just a mid to lower level Big 12 team.
I got their games here all last season and their defense is horrid and won't be any better this season. Either of our QBs will light them up with the new WRs we have, even if they are average right now. I won't even mention how our OL stacks up against their DL.
They have a solid OL... against Big 12 defenses. That should explain everything right there. They are good but not the level of the other offensive lines we will face in the SECW. Our front seven will feast. They may overpursue into a score or two, but it should be a long day for the Jayhawks.
As far as Nick goes, he made a dumbass, rookie mistake. It's up to him how he writes the rest of the season. After what I have seen in the past three years, I feel a bit sorry for KSU. He should have a nice chip on his shoulder come next Saturday.
What's done is done and we can't do **** about it. I was really ready to see the new guys play Sat, not the vets. Hell, even the pros are sitting their #1s the last week of preseason, which is what this game amounts to. Plus, it gives us a chance to play deeper at QB and see what we need to do there, which may be more important as the season goes the way the dead injuns like to play with us.

congratulations grammar police. you caught some errors. can you actually contribute to the conversation besides pointing out grammatical errors? I don't think the mindset of posters determine the outcome of the game. I was saying I would hope the team takes them more seriously than a lot of people on this board do. Which I believe they do.

Sarcasm aside, I applaud Moorhead for holding him to a standard. In his presser, he mentioned we compete against our standard regardless the opponent. Fitz apparently missed that standard in some respect. It's a way to get the teams attention. He also had a lot of positive things to say about Fitz.

First, Herby just said KSU is his dark horse to make a run at the Big 12. Was part of the pre season herby awards this weekend. Saturday down south also has us losing that game.
Second, they will be very well coached. There is no other world to describe their coach, other than legend. They will not beat themselves. They will, most likely, not turn the ball over. The are going to play with fundamentals, and that can never be overlooked in a football game. They will win field position, most likely. They will kick better than us. All of these things taken together mean that they are dangerous, and to overlook them as the post above is doing is at best foolish.
No question, we are the better team. No question, state should win that game. Just saying to overlook them by saying they are not a very good team or a mid level team is foolish. My thought on that game has not changed. State 17 KSU 14 in a struggle.

Herbstreit named Kansas State one of his surprise teams and called them a sleeper to win the Big12.

They haven't recruited above #65 since '14. If that effing defense keeps us to 17 points it's a long damn year cause we won't score on ANY SEC defense.
Not saying that is wrong, but Moorhead could have a totally different disciplinary standard than Mullen. Mullen definitely had a different one than Croom. JM definitely hasn’t spelled out what his policy is publicly. This could be anything at this point. And, in my personal opinion, having different disciplinary standards for two (or more) drugs that are all illegal doesn’t make any sense.

And some people have risen us to the level of Bama and Clemson. No team is unbeatable and certainly not us. KSU is at home playing a SEC team and we have a new coaching staff and now a QB who missed the first game. Just saying we need to bring it or we may get upset.

The policy is clearly stated in the bylaws of our school which you can read in a 30 second google, so take it up with them. Even the exact provision that allowed for Moultrie knee to happen. The coaches don’t arbitrarily get to decide how they are going to handle failed drug tests. And ours is and has been one of the most stringent policies in power5.
There is no chance Fitz failed a drug test for anything other than marijuana or he’d be getting the PJ Jones treatment and sitting for half the season.

Not for a failed drug test. That's a university policy, not a head coach decision.

why do you think they are hot garbage? yes their defense is not great. Their offense is really good. Our defense is also good. I already saw that game is being one where we would probably struggle in first half with miscues and probably have a few 3 and outs to start the game much like La Tech last year on the road. This team is much better than LaTech. They will be in the top half of the B12 this year. They have a lot of returning players. They will play tough on us. i'm not saying we will lose, but we certainly could if we go up there and play like trash the first half and can't get in a rhythm. Don't understand why some think that game with just be a pushover. If we blow them out, I'll be highly impressed with this team.

Who on their o line is going to block our D line? Who in their secondary is going to cover our receivers? Their biggest strength on offense is their running game and I got news for you...nobody is running on our defense. Not to mention their OC left for UTEP so they will also be learning a new system. The KSU defense ranked No. 78 last season in total defense. Kansas State’s pass defense was the second-worst in the country. Does the Bill Snyder formula really work anymore? I don’t think so. They are a middle of the pack Big 12 team which equates to bottom half of the SEC. I’m not saying we can just walk in there half cocked and come out with a win. But if we are prepared like we should be, the game shouldn’t be close.
Yes. i agree our defense will be nasty this season or at least they should be. KSU bring back every starter on the line and 114 starts combined so their line won't exactly be push overs. they run the option really well also which is also harder for a good defense to defend because the option takes players out of the game. I think the Bill Snyder formula still works. He won 8 games last year when people didn't even expect them to win much. Some how, he will find a way to win 8 games. They have been to several straight bowl games. That's not middle of the pack. That's more like top half. They aren't a garbage team. We will win if we go in and play to our ability, but if we don't, we can get beat. If we have a bunch of mistakes, a team that is fundamentally disciplined and plays hard for their coach that will be pumped to play an SEC team at their own house will take advantage of it. I expect us to win this game, but I don't expect it to be a blow out either.
Not certain why I am posting this on this thread, but everyone should go follow Kyle York on Twitter and read his recent posts. It recounts the Oregon game in which he started in place of Fant. Good insight from a player’s point of view. Kyle is a good man and I’m glad to call him my Pastor
If it’s university policy, it should be posted clearly on the athletics department or MSU website as to what the penalties are for each drug test failure (as well as any other legal infraction). As far as us having a defined policy for how many games a student athlete misses in every sport for each successive drug test failure for each specific drug, I’m gonna go ahead and call BS on that unless you can provide a link. The athletic department sanctions the testing, but each individual coach is responsible for administering penalties. Only thing on MSU’s website is a link to NCAA banned drugs, which simply calls out “street drugs”.
