This 77 year old has seen everthing from Evy to the present. Am I frustrated after yesterday? Definitely. Is the new expectation that Iowa needs to advance to playoffs? I want them to get there as everyone else, but be careful what wish for.
Nah, I'm good.

We're already trending below Iowa State as a football program, having lost to them the last 2 years under Kirk, and that's not changing while Kirk is still here.

Not to mention the fact that MUCH SOONER THAN LATER.................Kirk will not be the coach at Iowa regardless of how he leaves.

Iowa WILL have another football coach, so Iowa fans need to start f***ing making peace with that.

In this new NIL & revenue share era you can't be afraid of what might happen because if you suck then fire the next guy and move on. I still don't think a lot of our fan base gets NIL and this new era. You're not looking at a 4-5 year rebuild with old school recruiting. You can literally bring in 30-40 new guys and be a CFP team right away.
Yep, that's what perennial loser Indiana did w/ a 64 yr old coach.

Beth ain't gonna fire Kirk.

But for practical purposes, he can't recruit with only 3 years under contract, and unless he pulls off a B1G championship game appearance and/or CFP appearance this year, I don't think he gets a contract renewal from Beth.

It's either this season or next season, period.
Correct

While it felt good to actually watch the second half of a game against a ranked opponent again, doesn't it bother you that Iowa is ALWAYS the underdog against good teams? Its been a long time since Iowa was the consensus favorite against any team with a pulse. That's a problem.
Of course it bothers me. My point is just how polarized this whole thing. There are actually people here who want him fired so badly, that they hope we'll lose every game. Sorry, I'll never wish we lost, there are too many people involved in the program who give their all every day.

This board lol. Full of morons who never played and/or coached a meaningful down of football.
Also, how the hell was there no penalty when X got mugged by half of the Indiana bench??Officiating crew sucked yesterday.
Same way there was no holding call on that long run when they had an armed wrapped around Sharar, and the roughing call on Merriweather when he was pushed into the QB.

You mean right along with ...anytime we lose to a ranked opponent who we were a heavy underdog to, crowd? Shocking,...
It's now 11 straight years of losing to ranked opponents.

Why should we be heavy dogs?

After all, we have the winningest QB in Division I history ($1.4M), a stable of capable, proven RB's, an OL, who many on this board have said 'is back' - best OL we've had in years w/ experience and depth, a proven, veteran kicker w/ a strong leg who is among the career FG leaders in college football

You're sounding more like an ISWho fan before 2020

Thanks for clarifying. I have rarely visited the football board since it moved over to the new deal. Starting to think I was right for doing so. Lol

Lolol.. You sound like I'm the guy ranking the teams. The fact is the players you mentioned were almost enough to play them straight up. A couple of injuries, (already missing 4 offensive starters), losing MG, Stephens and Harrel didn't help, and then our great kicker shanked his 3rd makeable filed goal in the last 3 games. You get a loss.....

I wish the guys on here would apply for the job when Kirk retires they seem to have all the answers even though majority of them never played/coached a meaningful down of football at any level.
There are athletic administrators (incl. those people on committees) all across the country that make successful hires of coaches in sports in which they didn't play or coach. So what's your point? I don't think Beth G has ever played or coached any tackle football

We won't (and should not) fire Kirk.
I do believe he will step down at year end.
Agree wholeheartedly w/ not firing KF. He should leave w/ the dignity he deserves. BUT, someone needs to have a conversation w/ him about the legacy he will leave when it happens.

The road going forward w/ a 70-yr old coach isn't going to get easier. Opposing coaches will continue to use age, the woes on offense, media criticisms, etc) against him; the requirements for the HOF, the fact that SUI has been very good to him considering (rhabdo, Doyle and the lawsuit, Brian as OC,..)

How does KF want to be remembered?....as the thoughtful, compassionate person he is and do the right thing by the institution that gave him his opportunity or a selfish person, only wanting to hang on for his personal goals.

If he sincerely has the fire still to continue coaching football and molding young men, he could do that at UNI, for instance, and still add to his win total. I hope he picks the option you stated.

It’s been time for 5 years at least. This Season is a waste through 5 weeks since we won’t be making the playoffs.

Who should be our next coach when we #FireKirk?
Where's the white dog dumbass who constantly bashes Brands but sticks up for average Kirk. What a tard.

Exactly. Roster recruitment .... coaches' responsibility. Roster development, readiness to be next-man-in and perform w/o a drop-off... coaches' responsibility. Setting example of energy and leadership... coaches' responsibility.

Indiana was worse off than Iowa less than 2 years ago. Yesterday's game was definitely winnable. (Same w/ ISU this year and last). Lutmer's pick takes the ball to the 30 yd line. We turtled up seemingly to be playing for the winning FG at the end and got bit,....again.

If Patton doesn't lead the 3rd army breakout of Normandy and push to Bastogne, we likely lose the European theatre in WW2.
He was decisive, pushy, taking calculated risks unlike several other field commanders, and not liked by many. But very successful.

Interesting point. So food for thought. The opinion here by many is that that our roster is way down, and the game has passed Kirk by. So explain yesterday. Indiana has been ranked basically in the top 10 most of the last 12 months. Most would agree they have a better QB/WR group, maybe RB's, solid lines, the 3rd ranked defense in D1, and a coach everyone is drooling over. Meanwhile we are supposedly devoid of B1G level talent at the skill positions, our line play gets critiqued, LB's and secondary are sub par by manys thoughts. Kirk is clueless and the game has passed him by. So why didn't Indiana drag us up and down the field like they did Illinois? I mean is our talent REALLY as bad as many say? Is Kirk and company really as clueless as many perceive? Literally it took a tipped interception to set up their first score, a blocked punt to set up a score, and us missing a field goal, and at least three really bad no calls on the field goal score to end the first half for them to win, and YET we are supposedly so far behind them in both skill talent, AND coaching supposedly. What gives?

You are right. The idiots that want kf gone would, should go to nebraska football so they can fire a coach every 3 years.

Specious argument. Superior teams struggle with lesser teams all the time, and for a variety of reasons. Heck….the Bills are only leading the Saints by 2 with 8 minutes left in the game at this moment, and the Chargers are losing to the Giants.

Blaming the officials lol. Loser mentality
The idiot you're responding too wants the wrestling coach fired but hangs from kirks nuts. One guy has actually won something meaningful while facing the toughest schedule every year. The other is lucky to have had barta as AD while essentially winning a little more than half his games, largely against cream puffs.

I never said that at all.

There are many reasons a better team may struggle: a let down from a big game the prior week, overconfidence and taking the other team lightly, the other team being a bad match up (you see that in college basketball ALL THE TIME), the other team playing better than they usually do, the other team being more emotionally charged, etc.

Did you get THAT?

My point being….the better team doesn’t always roll over a lesser team. The better team doesn’t always win, either.
