Kinda fitting that this is all about risk. You have the safe bet of 7-5 or 8-4, or you take the risk of potentially being an Indiana (CFP in first year, 5-0 to start 2nd year) or potentially being a Wisconsin (steaming pile of dung under Fickell). It’s just like Kirkball, the people that don’t wanna get rid of him are fine with being predictable, mediocre, vanilla.

This 77 year old has seen everthing from Evy to the present. Am I frustrated after yesterday? Definitely. Is the new expectation that Iowa needs to advance to playoffs? I want them to get there as everyone else, but be careful what wish for.

The frequency that Iowa fans want Iowa making the CFP was the frequency they would’ve made the CFP had it existed in earlier Kirk days. Why is it so bad to hold Kirk to a standard he set and have that as the expectation? Why is Kirk not upset in himself that he’s not producing teams like he did from 2002-2010? Heck we can even go as far as 2015 even though that range had some bad teams in there.

In this new NIL & revenue share era you can't be afraid of what might happen because if you suck then fire the next guy and move on. I still don't think a lot of our fan base gets NIL and this new era. You're not looking at a 4-5 year rebuild with old school recruiting. You can literally bring in 30-40 new guys and be a CFP team right away.

This year Kirk ain't going 8-4 or 7-5. If Iowa is 6-6 after Black Friday then I'll be surprised.

They seem to forget KF is an old man. So when he retires soon anyway are we supposed to just shut the program down?
Yes. The program must be shut down. As one of our most infamous posters recently said: “Kirk Ferentz *is* Iowa football”.

I'd really love for McCollum to have some immediate success in basketball. I can't think of any better way to illustrate that point and turn up the heat on the football side.

Conversely if he fails the What You Wish For crowd gets further emboldened though....

Beth ain't gonna fire Kirk.

But for practical purposes, he can't recruit with only 3 years under contract, and unless he pulls off a B1G championship game appearance and/or CFP appearance this year, I don't think he gets a contract renewal from Beth.

It's either this season or next season, period.

You mean right along with the "fire the coach" anytime we lose to a ranked opponent who we were a heavy underdog to, crowd? Shocking,...
While it felt good to actually watch the second half of a game against a ranked opponent again, doesn't it bother you that Iowa is ALWAYS the underdog against good teams? Its been a long time since Iowa was the consensus favorite against any team with a pulse. That's a problem.

A 77 year old wanting to be conservative about hiring a new coach lol. It’s a new college football gramps and the minimum expectation should be playoffs. If you can’t beat ranked teams to get there we have a program issue

I am sure you are content on being mediocre but a lot of us think we can do better then 0-11 against ranked teams

He is afraid Iowa will return to being terrible. He remembers those years.

I do too….but that was nearly 50 years ago. Fear of risk or taking a chance is simply irrational.

And no, I am not calling for Kirk to be fired.

Are you familiar with what the word, "brand", means?
Unfortunately, the Brian Ferentz inspired 25 point ultimatum challenge (which he failed spectacularly) was seered into the minds of football fans coast to coast as national broadcasts used it as a weekly comedy segment. Not much has been accomplished to erase that brand of incompetence.

I don’t agree with the OP per se, but in your view when is it time to pass the torch? At some point, Kirk is going to have to step down. When should that be? If the determining factor is fear of the future, then that is a terrible reason to want to stick with a coach. It’s even sillier when you consider a program can recover quickly from a bad hire thanks to the transfer portal.

Iowa is currently on an 0-11 streak against Top 25 teams. That more than suggests Kirk’s best days are in the rear view. So, again, when is it time to part ways with Kirk? If he’s going to stubbornly stick it out while the program continues to slowly regress because he selfishly wants to try to coach into his 80s, should Iowa fans really cosign that because Kirk’s tenure has spanned four decades and Iowa had a lot of success in the 2000s? Is that the thinking? Or is the rationale fear of the next Jerry Burns? Neither one is a good reason to stick with a coach long past his prime.

And, yes, I have felt this way for a long time, not just because of yesterday’s loss.

It’s time. This needs to be Kirk’s last season.

I wish the guys on here would apply for the job when Kirk retires they seem to have all the answers even though majority of them never played/coached a meaningful down of football at any level.

You literally said “Officiating crew sucked yesterday”

What does this imply?
It implies the “officiating crew sucked yesterday” not “blaming the officials lol, loser mentality”

you can put me down as a reference when you apply to be the head hawk though
