@dpic73 and everyone else that thinks the DSA is a fringe group.

Take a look at the "All Dems" percentage. It looks very close to the MAGA percentage for Republicans. And here's the scary part, many MAGA's are old and will eventually die away so the MAGA percentage will go down, especially when trump dies. While on the democrat side, the socialists percentage will grow as old democrats die and new democrats (under 35) are able to vote. The democratic party is being taken over by socialists and it's happening faster than you think.

I personally blame the current/old democratic leadership, they suck and have sucked for a long time now. There's only two outcomes for the democratic party, maintain the current bad leadership or be taken over by the DSA. It looks more and more like we need a third party that's in the middle and actually has a plan. If the third party can get over 50% of the Dems and over 50% of the Repubs, then it will have over 50% of the population. With that, then both the Dems and Repubs can be treated as fringe parties.
I suppose the silver lining (if there is one to the leftward lurch) is the most radical DSAers will grow disaffected when the DSA fail to achieve the more provocative outcomes they have pitched. The provocative policies are DOA anyway.

If it just ends up being progressive policies that get implemented I might quibble, but some of those might do some good too.

I hope you're right, but I thought some of trump's policies were DOA and yet here we are. As we've seen with republican voters, it's not good enough to prove the other side is evil, they'll still vote for evil. My gut is that we're going to see the same thing on the democrats side.

Actually there are twice as many Republicans that identify as maga, hence, as things stand currently, they are still the more extreme party.

I wish progressives didn't use the scare word "socialist" so more people would take them seriously and look more closely at their actual policies, but here we are. The only thing that really bothers me is they aren't sharply separating themselves from the most extreme policies of the DSA because no matter what they advocate, if they aren't shouting down things like no borders, police or prisons, those will be the only things people will remember about them.

And unless DSA candidates start winning generals instead of primaries, there's no reason for alarm yet because they would need power to enact those extreme policies, so my hope is they separate themselves from the extremists before we snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. I still don't know why "progressive" isn't a good enough term because there doesn't seem to be much daylight between progressives and democratic socialists, but maybe I don't know enough.

All I know is the people are pissed that their priorities are being ignored and only one side is addressing their needs, hence why their numbers are growing. This could be a good thing if they play their cards right.

There is concerns because if the DSA candidates win general elections, then we get socialism. If the DSA candidates lose, then we get MAGA. The DSA wanting to eliminate the senate and basically changing the foundation of our government, that's a show stopper. They're choosing to call themselves DSA because there is a different between DSA and progressives. Remember when people used to say to MAGA's, "when trump tells you who he is, you should believe him". That same thing applies now to the DSA. When they tell you who they are, you really should believe them. They're socialists and want to change our democracy. Believe them, they're not hiding it.

✨ @hasanthehun on @DemSocialists's panel @socialismconf: "I'm speaking from my own personal perspective here: There are a lot of very powerful institutions out there and a lot of very powerful people out there who absolutely despise us. DSA has been around for a very long time; it has never gotten this much coverage. Same with myself; I've been doing this for 13 years; I've never gotten this much negative coverage or this much attention. The reason for why that's happening is because we ARE making an impact. If we were relegated to the corners of the internet, if we weren't actually on the ground, sometimes those changes take a lot of time, I know, but if we weren't making those changes, there wouldn't be this much pushback from powerful instruments, from powerful organs of propaganda that represent the interests of capital, rather than interests of workers. So remember that. And last but not least, don't succumb to nihilism. Let spite motivate you if you can't let HOPE motivate you, but always maintain revolutionary optimism."

I’m not a fan, but there is at least some logic in lowering the Medicare age to match retirement account withdrawal eligibility, which is 59.5. 55 is obviously too young and too much of an expansion.

99% of Medicare advantage plans already cover dental, vision and hearing. The average incremental premium for a MA plan is $14 per month. So this part is much ado about nothing. We should just leave it alone. $14 is a perfectly reasonable premium for retirees to pay.

It simply is factual that it is such a small group, though I feel like the DNC doesn't quite know what to do with the DSA nor their online followers, which is a small group but incredibly loud.
Lmao at your cluelessness. 62% of Americans between 18 and 29 have a favorable view regarding Socialism. That's directly from CATO. It isn't small whatsoever. Your party is being run by Marxists and Communists.

When you consider the tiny % the DSA is vs Democrats, we should not panic.
There is a trend in the Midwest and West of nominating moderate Dems also.
In Iowa Sand and Turek are mods.
In midterms all politics are local.
I always knew you Socialists were dishonest as hell, I just didn't realize how much.

We need to learn from history and that history is now. Just look at what MAGA is doing to the republican party. To think that same thing can't happen to the democratic party would be very short sighted. I'm not saying to panic but I would consider them a threat. And when there's a threat, it needs to be confronted, not act like it doesn't exist.
Really? Name a single right you've lost under Trump. You cannot. Meanwhile, you supposed Joe who lied regarding Covid, censored thousands of Americans, and was blatantly in bed with the Chinese. He lied about that as well.

The rise in what people now call socialism feels like a youth movement driven by the economic pressures being faced by young adults who came of age during a time when they have low wages, many with high student debt and housing costs that make the American dream out of reach for most of them. For that reason they're dissatisfied with the status quo and souring on capitalism because it's not meeting their needs.

Viewed through that lens, you can understand why this younger generation seems radicalized, when in reality, it's the equivalent of screaming from the rooftops that no one is listening and this is their way of getting the attention of the powers that be who ignore them.

I agree we should all reject the extreme platform we see on the DSA's website but I wonder if we're over-reacting, when maybe we should do a litlle bit of listening. If some of them do get elected, the realities of governing will constrain them from going too far so maybe we should take a deep breath and see it for what it is. A cry for out with the old and in with the new - who knows, it might end up being better for all of us if they're influential in implementing some of their more popular policy ideas.
You're such an ignorant fool and liar. Wages are literally at their highest ever in American history. Wages are up, jobs are available by the millions, and you're still a liar for party. Inflation is flat.

Thinking their real platform that you read about on their website is going to move the needle in the States or take over the Democrat party entirely is the propaganda I was referring to.
For being such a tiny group, they sure do have a bunch of loudmouths espousing their kooky views.

If someone posted the same kind of poll showing a large percentage of republicans were more willing to vote for MAGA candidates they would be trashed and deservedly so. The problem isn't charming your own party. Dems and Pubs will vote for their own over the other side pretty much every time. The problem is going to be convincing swing voters to pull your lever. Zero DSA candidates will turn anything red to blue.
