He’s no slouch and will be sandwiched between TJ and Trae - there is going to be plenty of competition in that room.

I'm generally the guy who ALWAYS says get the best guy you can get and let it sort itself out. In this case I guess I'm going against my own beliefs I guess.

If offering young Dayton a scholarship is the only way we could've gotten Dylan I'm ok with it. At worst Dayton is a development guy. But we you put him in between TJ and Trae there is a very very good chance he never starts at Nebraska. For years I feel like Nebraska has signed a few legacy kids who wouldn't ever get an offer otherwise. These kids didn't come with a 5 star QB attached to them.

Again I'm not saying it's right and I understand guys like Kong who says what they say. I believe it to be true but in this particular case I think the upside of big bro is worth it. Add the other QBs and I'm ok.

I think its possible, and probably likely that Dominic has different aspirations for his two boys. I believe in his mind Dylan would go to OSU, GA or NE as a 2-3 year stopover on his way to a long NFL career. Does he think that is the path of DR? Of course.

But, if you have that younger son, who has talent, but not elite talent at this point, if you could place him in the same University you know they will take good care of his son. I'm sure Dominic knows that Dayton's path to become NU's starting QB are much different than DR's was.

It's the same thing we all would have done.

This is the offensive player of the week award for the high school where he’s the starting QB

he should “win” that “award” every single Friday night

hilarious they even tweet that out

I'm assuming they think it would piss you off? Which I don't get. Because you think he was offered because of Dylan doesn't mean you don't wanna see a future Husker do well.

More than one thing can be true. You can think he's a "charity case" I think is how you put it. But still hope the kid does well. At least I hope that's the case.

I absolutely think we could've signed a better QB bit I also absolutely hope like he'll the dude balls out . Maybe I'm different

Correct.

Lots of people here are extraordinarily sensitive (pussies) and thus incapable of rational, objective thought.

Dayton is still just a baby. He’s going to continue to get better. This isn’t a risky offer. Good floor, high ceiling.
Agreed! Too many people look at national ratings or what a kid's measurables are when they are a HS junior. This kid has talent and he cares A LOT about playing for the Big Red and comes from a family that lives football. He's going to work his ***. This is a talented, scholarship QB recruit with the mentality of a walk-on from central Nebraska.

Both things can be true. Dayton deserves a scholarship offer and the other QB competition proves to be too tough to beat out. In front of him, the team loves TJ and he's exceeding expectations so far. Behind him, Trae is everything you would want in a future QB recruit. Then there's always the chance that Dylan stays for his fourth year. More QBs are doing that these days.

You do realize who Dayton plays for, right? It's not the same situation as Carter Nelson winning player of the week playing eight man at Ainsworth.

I'm not even saying Dayton doesnt deserve a scholarship. Let me be clear I'm perfectly fine with him getting a scholarship. I also think that his brother being a 5 star QB before him and his uncle the OL coach and his dad the former AA has something to do with it. You can choose to believe what you will. I also think that if it meant getting Dylan then offering and accepting a commit from Dayton was worth it.

Finally just because I'm ok with him getting the offer and commitment doesn't mean that I think he was the best QB that they could sign. Again you can believe what you will.

I think there were several reasons why he got his offer and his talent is definitely one of them as well. Does he look like a good hS prospect? Yes he does. Do I hope like he'll he is great? Absolutely. Do I think he was the best HS Qb we could've signed? No I don't.

Like You said more than one thing can be true.

It’s yet to be determined if he “was the best QB we could sign”. Recruiting QBs is such a crap shoot when you have to offer them as 16 year olds. It appears Dayton is getting better as he matures. We’ve signed a LOT of 4 stars who looked like studs who turned out to be duds. He looks like a P4 QB making big boy throws when I watched him play. We can be pretty sure that he’ll have the right mind for the job.

As things look right now, going after Dayton looks like a great move. This isn't 1985. Putting more of a developmental qb in between a 4 star and high 4 star provides some separation. You would assume Dayton sticks around too, which would give us at worst a backup who knows the system.

We need to act like a big boy program and get as many good players as possible, especially with unlimited transfers.

If Trae Taylor signs, I would feel as good about our qb room as I have in decades. A team like NU signing two 5 stars in 4 years is crazy. With a 4 star in Lateef in between. 2027 season you either have a 4 year starter in Dylan, or he tore it up and left early while Lateef and Trae Taylor battle it out.

That would be just shy of a miracle compared to 2022 & 2023.

He plays for a top 10 national HS . He plays with a team of p4 players. Winning this award is not like when you won the award weekly when you played on your special Ed rec team.

You can "say" that about anybody before they play a down. We could've said that about Haarberg coming out by that logic. I think that's just posturing. Dayton COULD turn out to be a damn good QB. But if you are being honest you know he wasn't the "best" QB we could've signed. Again this is one where you can believe what u will.

Dayton may not be the best QB we could get this year but I wouldn't be surprised if he is better than most QBs we have signed in the last 10 years. We sign a lot of legacy guys at other positions and many of them don't pan out. They aren't QB prospects though so nobody complains.

Getting these 4 and 5 star QB's on a regular basis is how you get back to being an elite program again and you don't do this without an elite coaching staff, fan base and NIL support. I will add that top 5 star position players follow other 5 star players and yes they follow the money also so lets hope the cash from NIL keeps rolling in. jmo

This was unnecessary as well.
Have you seen some of the crap he posts? Husker QB's should kill themselves. Preacher Rhule is fat. Uncle Donnie sucks and is a nepo hire. Dayton sucks. Pedo Big 10 noise. Talks out of his a$$ personal stuff he thinks he knows about people on here? You reap what you sow. He's a douchebag. There is a reason the emotional nut job has been banned multiple times.

Yes,

I too have had some epic arguments with him. He and I never really got personal, frustrated and angry at each other, never personal.

It takes two to tango, only one to stop.

My thoughts.

Saltiest 2-0, soon to be 3-0 fanbase in the country. Rhule would be proud. Keeping our edge. 2-0 but act like 0-2. Make them remember you.

Pretty sure it was you I last stuck up for when you were having your opinions disregarded because you told him you smoke weed. If this not you, it was someone, and no intent to offend you.
If this was you, have you noticed he never said that silly hsit again?

As I said, it only takes one to stop.

First boy en route!

We are very excited

A feeling you will never know (thank goodness given your disgusting family history)

not a day goes by you don’t post about me. Perhaps you, too, should refer to me as “daddy”?
Who are you trying to convince?
You sound very much like someone who hates his life but tries to pretend.

Another thing that also helps to become and remain an elite program: a track record of getting guys to the NFL. That’s something that’s been hurting us on the recruiting trail for several years.
