I think Glenn Thomas and Dana Holgorsen have their work cut out for themselves. Dayton is very raw but has talent but he has a lot of work ahead of himself.

Can someone give me the clif notes on how he did?
At one point he was about 10/16 for 150 passing 0TD's, 1 INT with 30 yards rushing on scrambles. Honestly, he looked like a very good HS QB who is mananging a stacked team. Seemed a bit small for a P4 QB and had no outstanding qualities, although he was usually good at getting the ball out on time to guys open underneath.

Assuming Dylan goes to the NFL as soon as he’s eligible, the 2027 QB battle is shaping up between redshirt sophomore Lateef, redshirt freshman Dayton, and true freshman Taylor.

Taylor is heralded, but maybe he’s not really ready for game 1 as a true frosh. Best bet for either Dayton or Lateef to stake some playing time is being clearly best in 2027 fall camp. Could get some game experience earlier if we can blow a team or two out or, gasp, Dylan gets injured. If Dylan plays nearly all the snaps in 2025, maybe Lateef transfers this next offseason. That would leave Dayton as the primary backup to Dylan in 2026, and the primary option to start in 2027 unless Taylor is just awesome out of the gate.

If Lateef transfers before 2027 season, I see getting somebody from the portal to compete at QB being a priority for this staff.

Lets say this is true. I'm glad. I'm glad we offered Dayton if it makes Dylan happy. Are you? ..kinda seems like you have a problem with it.
You didn’t ask me, but I have no problem with it. In this age of easy and unlimited transfers induced by offers of outright money as well as potentially better coaches/conference/location, you can’t be complacent about retaining your key players. With what Dylan might be able to do to bring Nebraska back to prominence, you do everything reasonable to get him to want to stay here. Including keeping his uncle on staff, which might look less like a charity case if the OL performs at a Big Ten level like we’ve been led to believe.

Dayton doesn’t seem to have the same upside as Dylan, but he’s good enough to come in, compete, and hopefully contribute before he’s done. If Dylan stays healthy and Taylor stays committed, Dayton will likely be a backup. And hopefully a qualified and content one.

...almost everyone is OK with it, as they should be.

I just wonder what the other players think. Their family members aren’t being gifted high paying jobs/scholarships/competitive posts in the athletic dept.

Seems very counter to the culture we’re trying to build

Then again, so does retaining bum losers Satt & Foley

Classic Preacher Rhule do-as-I-say-not-as-I-do type stuff

My preference is to fill the roster with the best players and the sideline with the best coaches, but I seem to oddly be in the minority there.

Dylan is the best player in our program. Right? So...mission accomplished ??

...and everyone wanted the 2 coaches you listed removed from their positions, so mission accomplished, again. Right?

I swear, you could start a pissing match with the air.

I hope Rhule gets 10 so you can get off his back😁

No, everyone wanted those two losers fired. Humiliated would’ve been a nice bonus.

Instead, they were reassigned and still poison our program with their worthlessness.

And what’s the point of bringing in a talented kid if he’s dragging anchors behind him?

Game Highlights

You can get a pretty good idea of how Dayton R. played from these extended highlights. What it doesn't show is all the Buford penalties thoughout the game.

I will say, I saw some highlights and I wasn’t too impressed with the throws, but he did move pretty well in the pocket and at least looked like he could be a top 3 depth chart QB at D1.

I don’t care if he got an offer, I would only care if he stunk and was named our starter.

Charity case

As everyone already knew
Yep. No doubt in my mind that Dayton wouldn’t be Neb’s choice at QB for the 2026 class if not for Dylan. That said, I hope he has success in Lincoln.

Am I ok with it…the nepotism? I’m kind of in the middle there as I don’t want to do anything to piss Dylan off to a state where he’d leave. But - I lean on the side of Kong in the end. We are paying Dylan almost $3 mil. He’s being well compensated for his time at Neb. Get the best players…period.

Note: He is going to continue to grow in his abilities but I wasn’t impressed with Dayton’s performance on ESPN 2. Meh.

He’s no slouch and will be sandwiched between TJ and Trae - there is going to be plenty of competition in that room.

I tend to agree. Also, with the way NIL and Rev Share is constructed, Dylan may actually make more money at Nebraska than he would going to the league after his junior year. Competition for 2027 may actually be pushed to 2028. Redshirting TJ this year looks like a smart move. Unless he is needed due to a Dylan Raiola injury. Even then, I doubt TJ is going to lead the team to 9 or 10 wins as a true freshman or that it would even justify burning the redshirt.

From what I'm hearing, the kid has better instincts as a runner than his brother. Whether he is competitive or not for the job in a couple of years depends on whether his skills level up to B1G standards, and whether or not Holgerson is still the OC. I could see Dana liking a kid that can get some yardage on the ground.
