Crazy TNF fight

People acting like Mason is a victim here crack me up. Garrett's reaction is inexcusable and he should get 16 games straight up minimum, but Mason Rudolph is NOT a victim. He should 100% be suspended as well, probably 2-4 games, for kicking Garrett in the nuts and then trying to pull his helmet off as well. The fact Rudolph also ran back to Garrett when DeCastro clearly had it under control and Garrett was under control. Then he went nuts.

But they can both be guilty here. I am not advocating for Garrett but just stating Mason, while not nearly as guilty, is absolutely guilty as well.

I have a feeling this will be over analyzed to the point we are tired of hearing it and no one will be happy with the final judgement.

His punishment should be having to play the rest of the season for the Cleveland Browns. In all seriousness, the rest of the year should suffice.

Somebody tell me why that should not be felony assault?
Because it looks like Mason both started the altercation and was attacking Garrett again when Garrett hit him.

Still terrible by Garrett, but that is what’s going to save him from it ending his career.

Wasn’t Myles Garrett ejected on the opening drive of the 2014 Texas A&M game for a nasty late hit on Dak on a zone read play? Has he been a late-hit artist throughout his career, or is this out of character for him?

Garrett will get four games max.

They're only handing out 4-6 for domestic violence. He'll appeal and it'll get reduced to the point he's able to play after they face the Browns again in two weeks. There will be some sort of fine as well.

Rudolph and Pouncey get a game. The guy who blind sided Rudolph there at the end gets a game as well.

The NFL doesn't care about this at all because all everyone is talking about on a Friday morning is something that happened in an otherwise meh Thursday night matchup.

An interesting caveat to all this is the fact that Rudolph has already missed 3 games this year due to concussion protocol.

Granted, it’s not as if an enraged Myles Garrett is going to stop to think about this and decide to let it go. However, it’s a terrible look for the NFL and it’s players to have a guy return after missing multiple games for a concussion only to have another player swing at his head with a helmet. I see no way that the NFL lets this go lightly

Only question is what needs to be done with Rudolph so that it doesn’t immediately turn into social justice protests

Qualen Cunningham. I had to look it up myself. It's also the same game where the referee turned the wrong way on a call, but it wasn't the targeting.

Did you not read the part of the text I bolded? Like it or not, Rudolph was grabbing at MG's helmet first, when they were both down on the ground. Hell, tune into NFL network.

Whatever Rudolph did was well after Garrett dragged him to the ground like a full 2 seconds after he released the ball, so no, nothing that Rudolph did was “first”. He was reciprocating from a dirty play, then Garrett took it up a notch to an inconceivable level.

I think it should be, but to play devil's advocate, so should intentionally plunking someone with a 99 mph fastball.

Well, why in the hell is HHH still walking the streets after assaulting dudes with sledgehammers for more than a decade?**

The thing you are missing is that these DV incidents, while very heinous and inexcusable, did not take place on the field of play where these guys are literally representing the team, league, fans, and sponsors while they collect paychecks for being football players. That’s a big distinction. Garrett is not going to play again this season, at a minimum.

For further precedent, a guy got 3 games in 2013 for just swinging a helmet and not even connecting, and that was before the whole head injury concerns had really ramped up like they have in the past 5 years or so. There is absolutely zero chance that he only gets 4 games.

OK, I’ll play. There is always a certain level of plausible deniability for that. Anything from “I didn’t mean to throw at him” to “I did mean to throw at him but wanted to hit him in the thigh, not the head”. It’s also something that’s an inherent risk in the game of baseball (something that could happen either accidentally or on purpose) that every player takes at least 20-30 times a game whenever they step into the batter’s box. And, needs to not even be mentioned, but you go into the batter’s box with a helmet on. Getting beaten in your unprotected head with the very thing that is supposed to protect you from contact there is not something that any athlete or member of society in general should ever have to expect to deal with. It’s just an outrageous comparison.

Looked to me like Rudolph grabbed the back of Garrett's helmet and was pulling.

I’d be fine with them kicking him out of the league. No place for that in football. No excuse.

he definitely should be suspended for several games as this is not normal in football, but charged with assault i'm not sure. it's a game and fights happen. how is this different from the fights in baseball or hockey? what is the precedent in hockey if someone rips off a helmet and then uses a helmet. i feel like that's happened before or someone got hit with a hockey stick. i know it's not normal for fights in football but they happen in other sports all the time.

Yes. AFTER he was brought to the ground after throwing the ball (on the last play of a long-since decided game). You really think Rudolph just did that **** unprovoked?

Never said it was unprovoked. Garrett didn't let up after the play was over. Rudolph tried to pull his helmet off and, failing that, appears to kick him between the legs. Then Garrett lost it.

Suspended indefinitely. Minimum rest of the year. Funny looking back at this thread and seeing the underlying political tones of those who thought he shouldn't be heavily punished.

It's freaking assault on the field. Probably the darkest day in NFL history.

This is exactly right. Garrett threw a late hit on Rudolph when there was 8 seconds left in the game, and the Browns were winning by 2 TDs. Rudolph was rightfully pissed.

Please save me the stupid excuse that what Garrett did was in any way justified because of what Rudolph did. Rudolph posed zero threat to Garrett, and Garrett could have literally killed Rudolph with that helmet swing.

This situation is like the equivalent of someone getting pushed at a bar, and then the person getting pushed pulls out a gun and fires it.

You say that like those that want Garrett banned for life don't have underlying tones either. This story ain't going away anytime soon now that the NFL gave Rudolph zero punishment.

When a scuffle broke out Jack used to often opine....

Exactly where do you hit a man wearing a football uniform?

Well jack here is your answer. You remove a part of your adversary's protective padding and then use what you removed to strike the now exposed body part!

And is the reverse of that true- are there underlying political tones of those who thought he should be heavily punished?

This is honestly a question(s) as I didnt pick up on political views when reading the thread. I may have some blinders on since I am a Steelers fan?...not sure.

Props to Cleveland for finding entertaining ways to stay a dumpster fire.

Being a talented train wreck is much better tv.

The most unlikable underdog franchise in sports somehow always finds a way to be even more unlikable.

Rudolph received a fine of undisclosed amount. It might not be what you want to see, but it's not zero. And oh yeah he also got a football helmet slammed over his head by a man in the top .01% of athletic prowess in the country, so there's that.

Football helmet to the head isn't his punishment it's his Stupid Prize he won for being a 17ing dumbass that kicked a literal giant in the nuts, tried to rip his helmet off and got in his face screaming all sorts of pleasantries at him. Would you try to fight Myles Garrett?

Really? He must have the weakest grip of any NFL qb in the league. It was with his bare hand. I think if he wanted to rip that helmet off, he would have.

Dude this season had already been fined for punching Delanie Walker, and 2 separate late hits on Trevor Siemien, the last of which ended his season. and now the Coup d’etat.

making Suh look like a choir boy.

I will say, friggin Markuice Pouncy, not matter what you think of him, Is a Ride Or Die dude if you’re his team mate. He’s got your back. And I had never noticed till yesterday he’s got a tat on his neck that says “loyalty”.
