Because it looks like Mason both started the altercation and was attacking Garrett again when Garrett hit him.
Still terrible by Garrett, but that is what’s going to save him from it ending his career.
Garrett will get four games max.
They're only handing out 4-6 for domestic violence. He'll appeal and it'll get reduced to the point he's able to play after they face the Browns again in two weeks. There will be some sort of fine as well.
Rudolph and Pouncey get a game. The guy who blind sided Rudolph there at the end gets a game as well.
The NFL doesn't care about this at all because all everyone is talking about on a Friday morning is something that happened in an otherwise meh Thursday night matchup.

An interesting caveat to all this is the fact that Rudolph has already missed 3 games this year due to concussion protocol.
Granted, it’s not as if an enraged Myles Garrett is going to stop to think about this and decide to let it go. However, it’s a terrible look for the NFL and it’s players to have a guy return after missing multiple games for a concussion only to have another player swing at his head with a helmet. I see no way that the NFL lets this go lightly

Qualen Cunningham. I had to look it up myself. It's also the same game where the referee turned the wrong way on a call, but it wasn't the targeting.
Whatever Rudolph did was well after Garrett dragged him to the ground like a full 2 seconds after he released the ball, so no, nothing that Rudolph did was “first”. He was reciprocating from a dirty play, then Garrett took it up a notch to an inconceivable level.
Couple of precedents in the HS ranks: The second one I had a first hand account of. Kid wound up with a concussion.

The thing you are missing is that these DV incidents, while very heinous and inexcusable, did not take place on the field of play where these guys are literally representing the team, league, fans, and sponsors while they collect paychecks for being football players. That’s a big distinction. Garrett is not going to play again this season, at a minimum.
For further precedent, a guy got 3 games in 2013 for just swinging a helmet and not even connecting, and that was before the whole head injury concerns had really ramped up like they have in the past 5 years or so. There is absolutely zero chance that he only gets 4 games.
OK, I’ll play. There is always a certain level of plausible deniability for that. Anything from “I didn’t mean to throw at him” to “I did mean to throw at him but wanted to hit him in the thigh, not the head”. It’s also something that’s an inherent risk in the game of baseball (something that could happen either accidentally or on purpose) that every player takes at least 20-30 times a game whenever they step into the batter’s box. And, needs to not even be mentioned, but you go into the batter’s box with a helmet on. Getting beaten in your unprotected head with the very thing that is supposed to protect you from contact there is not something that any athlete or member of society in general should ever have to expect to deal with. It’s just an outrageous comparison.
he definitely should be suspended for several games as this is not normal in football, but charged with assault i'm not sure. it's a game and fights happen. how is this different from the fights in baseball or hockey? what is the precedent in hockey if someone rips off a helmet and then uses a helmet. i feel like that's happened before or someone got hit with a hockey stick. i know it's not normal for fights in football but they happen in other sports all the time.

This is exactly right. Garrett threw a late hit on Rudolph when there was 8 seconds left in the game, and the Browns were winning by 2 TDs. Rudolph was rightfully pissed.
