I actually will take Torres stance which is UK fans want to CONTEND/COMPETE for championships every year. You all are loyal to the program and as long as they are doing what it takes and showing the program cares about Kentucky....you'll support them. If UK loses to a team in Elite 8, Final Four it stinks, but you are right there with the program. Now you can't excuse St. Peter's. Missing the Tournament. Ruining all the traditional events/games/outings that Kentucky loves.
I think there are numerous guys who would jump at this job. Hypothetically you open this up, you aren't replacing the Cal from '10-'15 who was fantastic, you are replacing the version who is ducking IU, won't play in Maui or Holiday Tournaments, won't do home/homes, talks of losses as not mattering, has bent the knee to Rick Barnes of all coaches, has not recruited at the level that he once did--but isn't getting guys to stay either. It would be time for someone to come take this job.
Personally, I'd look at a younger guy to grow-but my top young coach was Todd Golden who UF just hired. If I went current top guys, I'd make a run at Scott Drew, Eric Musselman, still not as down on Nate Oats as others, also like Tommy Lloyd but doubt he'd leave Arizona, and I'd have been fine if Kenny Payne got a chance here but he's at U of L so he'd out. For a guy who I'm intrigued by I'll throw a name some would be shocked by mentioning but I like Jerry Stackhouse. Stackhouse is someone I could see winning big at a better program. He's type I like in that he played at highest level and can relate to elite players in being recruited, pressure of blueblood program, trying to get to NBA, etc...but understand if some think that's crazy. Think he's really doing right things to get Vanderbilt competitive and recruiting very well with some guys who are underrated but will be good college players--like the guard Noah Shelby a lot.
